A long time ago, George Lucas and Rick McCallum told us that a live-action television series that apparently would take place in the Dark Times was in development - and, reflective of those times, the show would feature a darker tone and more mature themes. One that they could see as going on for as few as 100 to as many as 400 episodes! For a time, it seemed like this could be happening, even if it had been delayed due to financial concerns.

And then Disney purchased Lucasfilm. Which threw things off-course for a project that was already off-course, to say the least. Disney has stated that right now, most of their Star Wars resources are going straight to Episode VII, and George Lucas is semi-retired, keeping away from blockbusters and working on personal projects like he always wanted. Nonetheless, he still is maintaining a degree of presence within the universe he created, while still letting a new generation play in his sandbox.

Interestingly enough, George Lucas said that he wanted the project to get off of the shelf three to four years after the deal set in. Right now, we are nearing the end of year two. Still no word on the show. Nonetheless, Disney has apparently been involved with making live-action Star Wars television specials - even after they cancelled a whole bunch of projects to make way for the Sequel Trilogy. Not to forget that Disney has also been dead-set on launching a ton of television shows that take place within their Marvel Cinematic Universe - most of which cost a bit more than the typical television show.

Will we ever see a live-action Star Wars show? More importantly, what should it be about? Discuss it here!

If there would have been a live-action series it should have been Rebels imho. From what I can remember the live-action series would have shown us the Underworld and some Galactic Civil Wars... The format of live-action could return for the time after RotJ and Episode 7. 30-35 Years of a gap couldn´t possible just filled with books, comics and other literature. So much potencial for Disney to cash in.

Will we see a live action Star Wars show ? Yes i do believe we will. What will it be about? Well i can't really answer that, it depends on how much money is behind it. I would like a show with a plot like in Star Wars X-Wing Alliance about a shipping family who get's caught up in the struggle against the Empire.

I agree and think we'll definitely see movies and other material during the interim between Episodes VI and VII, starting with the Boba Fett spinoff.

However, to answer Pomojema -- Now that Disney owns SW we will definitely see Underworld in the future IMO. They have the deep pockets to produce a high quality show that advances and expands the universe a la SHIELD (only better.)

I would like to see a TV show dedicated to the ancient war between Jedi and Sith. I believe in this format you could really get a nuance look at the differences between the two factions that you just would not have time for in a two hour movie.

I definitely want to see that story as well. TV would probably work, especially with how great TV has gotten in the last 10 years. However, starting a new series in the time from the Old Republic (with an Episode I) would have plenty of time to develop the whole story along the way.

I'd love to see a TV-series based in the years prior to ANH, focusing on Han and Chewie and their lives as smuggler, kind of like Firefly. We could see Jabba, Boba, Lando and lots of other "underworld" characters. A Star Wars mostly without Jedi and Sith; now, wouldn't that be something for a change?

With the exception of the focus on Han and Chewie I believe this was the concept for Underworld, with Boba Fett being the central focus.

I heard that there was 150 scripts written some of them by pretty famous writers at the time. Didn't they say the reason the project never moved forward was it would cost 2 million an episode, I think they were waiting for productions costs to get lower. Maybe they will use some of that stuff for Rebels ?

I'd like to see a Rogue Squadron live action TV show. I liked the Battlestar Galactica tone and cinematography from a few years ago. Perhaps a smugglers/bounty hunters type of show? I'm open to any type of character in the Star Wars universe as long as it's somewhat serious in it's overall tone. Though "Rebels" looks fun, I'm just not as interested in shows aimed at kids. I didn't really care for Clone Wars either. I don't want to see Jedi that are raring to fight with incredibly complex martial arts moves. I'd rather see a Duel that couldn't be avoided no matter what between two people that would rather not fight. Flying around the galaxy isn't fun and exciting, it's inconvenient and perilous. Bounty hunters aren't cool, they are indeed scum. Politicians and military leaders aren't so cut and dry, black and white, etc. They're sometimes corrupt or morally ambiguous, self-serving, and selfish. Not to veer too far off topic, but this is largely the reason that Old Trilogy die-hards are generally disappointed with everything new. We all want something that caters to our demographic. I was 5 when ANH came out. Anything animated is an instant turn-off.

Also I believe the time line of the series was supposed to be between episodes III and IV . That is why I think that Rebels is going to use some of the material.

Actually there were about 50 scripts written although I think Lucas envisioned 100 or more.

I read somewhere that ABC (Disney owned channel) has already been interested in making reality of the live.action series :)

I´m sure that Disney will make it sooner or later, they didn´t buy Lucasfilm for 4.8 billion dollars & not to try & earn back every cent :D

Making a tv series is probably an easier way of earning back Money than big Movie productions

Thats true I just hope that quality is of the most importance, There have been more bad tv shows then good. I hope the people at Disney take their time and pick all the best people for each project. I am almost 90 percent sure episode VII will be awesome, but some of these other projects need to be handled with as much care. If they want to maximize profits that is

i Think they had very high expectations & standards for the show, that is why they shelved it, because they could not find a way to make it under a certain amount of Money (i don´t remember the amount) for each episode, but they wanted every episode to be like "a Little Movie" & they even wanted John Williams to make individual score to every episode (even though they never got so far that he was officially asked about it) & i Think the idea of following "minor characters were intriguieng, i have Always wondered when watching the Movies, when an interesting character walks in the background on a street & you only see him/her/it for a few seconds; "what is that characters story" ?

I think the live action show's chances are directly tied to the upcoming second season of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the first season of Agent Carter. This whole intersecting of a single cinematic/TV universe thing is a new venture for ABC and the first season of S.H.I.E.L.D. was underwhelming from a ratings and quality perspective (although the show got better as the ratings slid). If the experiment dies on the vine this year, Disney will likely get cold feet on amping up the budget for the Star Wars version of the same type of thing.

when (if) Everything else fails & their other tv shows are no smashing hits, they will hopefully Think: STAR WARS just can´t fail :) but i Think they first want to see how succesfull the franschise is, with Rebels & ep. 7 Before taking on a huge s.w tv project
