Will the Resistance have a Death Star?

    They have the plans and considering that the Starkiller Base is planet sized, the Resistance may need a weapon powerful enough to destroy a planet.

    I can see this causing a rift in the upper echelon of the Resistance. Since Leia would remember the horror of the first Death Star having seen her home destroyed, maybe she stands against the other Resistance leaders who feel that they need the weapon. Leia maybe argues that they should trust in the force.

    Maybe the Death Star is already under construction in secret much like the creation of the clone army.

    I think this could be a theme through Ep.s VII, VIII and IX.

    Would make for an epic end battle for Ep. IX with the Resistance Death Star v. Starkiller Base.

    Anyway, all speculation of course.

    A recent leak from a novel-art work-promo described a "Resistance" WMD being used on Jakku. (epic fail)
    This "tactical strike" may have ended the epic battle. It's unclear if Leia ordered its deployment or how-what super weapons the Resistsnce might have.
    These things are now known:
    1) Leia is a military general, not a diplomat or political figure.
    2) the First Order has the Star Killer base-WMD. What it does or how exactly it functions is not clear.
    3) there is a 3rd act battle or extended scene where the Resistance forces gather to attack the Star Killer base. I assume based on the sense of urgency that the final battle is rushed because the First Order/Snoke discover the location of the Resistance HQ & set the Star Killer weapon on the occupied planet-star system. There's no real time or ability to plan out a attack or strategy.

    Leia as a general could still be in disagreement with the leaders of the Resistance.

    Also, I am thinking that if the Resistance had Death Star it wouldn't actually show up until Ep IX. I am supposing that it would be a story arc that runs over the entire next trilogy.

    It could be that the Resistance doesn't have time to build a full DS, but maybe it is just the gigantic gun portion.

    If they are a "Resistsnce," literally speaking, where would they have the money to just build one off of the top unless they have some secret backers in the new republic with really deep pockets.

    I see what you mean. There could be someone involved as a backer. Somewhat the way the clone army was established.

    To save the universe, the Resistance may have to sign a deal with the devil so to speak. Maybe someone criminal. Maybe someone worse.

    Absolutely.

    It would be a situation where many worlds would pull together to pool resources to counter something that threatens them all.

    For sure I get your point. That's where the conflict could reside within the Resistance. They sort of have to make a deal with the devil so to speak in order to save the galaxy. Maybe it won't end well.

    I love that idea! Maybe the reason that a Resistance exists because they disagree with the building of such a machine.

    Anyway, I guess we'll know in a week.
