I was listening to the Rebel Grrrl podcast a few weeks ago and it was the opinion of one of the hosts the need to move forward from the sith and jedi being the only force users in SW. We see how the Knights of Ren are like the new "sith" of TFA. Do you think a new group will take the place of the jedi like the Knights of Ren /sith? Or do you think the jedi order will be re-established? Yes I know Luke is a jedi in the film. I'm referring more so to the jedi order. :)

Yes I think that as the Force awakens more and more Force sensitive adepts will come forward to be trained. Rey, Maz, Finn may all become Jedi.

Agreed, and I'm hoping that some older Jedi (maybe a fantasy thought, I know) will come out of the shadows and reveal themselves as survivors of Order 66.

I agree that there will be Jedi. I also think that they will use this opportunity to expand force users outside of the usual Jedi / Sith mumbo jumbo. I would love to see some cool battles between some different factions.

I was being somewhat tongue in check. Luke became a Jedi in ROTJ. His achievement was the Return. It marked a major point in the Galaxy.

For there to be after their successful return no Jedi at all in the ST would be weird.

My biggest question is how many Jedi will there be in the ST? Is there going to be a new Jedi Order with many of them or just a few that Luke trained before he went into hiding?

I was thinking about this and it kind of touches on the Yoda thread about how people like me who grew up with the OT thought of Jedi Masters and Sith Masters to be people so adept in the force that they have moved beyond lightsabers, and it appeared that Yoda had moved beyond violence. Yoda tells Luke to pass on what he has learned, not to restart the Jedi Order. Maybe Luke founds a new order that's light side but not Jedi.

If yoda.wanted Luke to be a pacifist he would have said more than don't bring a sabre in that one cave.

We've heard of "The Seven". I generally don't like to speculate on the more vague rumors, but.......
If Vader brought balance, I think we'll see a hand full of Jedi (trained by perhaps the last), and a handful of darksided users that may be less in numbers, but not in strength(one old school remaining alcolyte?).

MVS? I know, I know, he's playing "The Vicar" but let's just acknowledge that we might not know as much about the film as we think we do... Just for a second let's be reasonable.

Oh God... Please god don't start this argument again. Because Yoda taught several other passive lessons besides the cave. "Wars not make one great" perhaps not a concrete example of pacifism, but then there's "a Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." I don't want to start this whole Yoda v lightsaber discussion again, but let's not act like the Lesson in the Cave was the only time Yoda ever brings up passivism. Let's call a spade a spade here.

    Defense is not pacifism.

If you are a full pacifist. You are not apart of an order dedicated to protecting justice and freedom because that requires force some times.

If you are a full pacifist and a student points a blaster at you, you start teaching that weapons any weapons are against your philosophy. Any weapon would include light sabre's.

Yoda gives 0 full pacifism messages. This is why I was not mortified by his "sudden change" in the PT. He was exactly the same guy a little younger.

Yoda's training was about using the light side of the force and because the dark side is seductive and easy it requires a great deal of restraint when a situation where you need to defend yourself of someone else comes up. The philosophy of the Jedi the promotion of peace, justice and the reduction of suffering.

I think it would be interesting if Luke did start a new order, but not a Jedi order, teaching them without weapons. Perhaps there's a number of these Force-Users in existence, trained by Luke Skywalker, one potentially being Maz. At some point though maybe a splinter group formed that was interested in the teachings of Jedi lightsaber combat that turned against Luke's Order. They see Luke as evil for renouncing his lightsaber and venerate Vader as the last true Jedi, hence wanting his lightsaber.

Because the idea of no Jedi being in the ST was hung on the idea that Yoda had moved beyond the philosophy of being a jedi and become a pacifist and Luke had become one as well and as such there were no more Jedi.

Even though Yoda still identified as a jedi. Held up being a Jedi as the goal he was training Luke. When Luke casts aside his lightsabre he declares himself a Jedi like his father before him. Even if he renounced lightsabre's (which he picked up) He still chose to identify as a Jedi.
