Will we hear any music from the prequels in TFA at all?

?

Should elements from the prequel soundtracks show up in The Force Awakens/sequel trilogy scores?

Say what you will about the prequels, but one thing that was consistently awesome in them was the soundtrack (to me anyway). I'm wondering since the prequels had moments where the musical cues would call back bits of the (amazing) soundtrack to the original trilogy if we'll hear bits of some of the iconic parts of the prequel scores show up in the Force Awakens/the sequel trilogy scores?

Specifically Duel Of The Fates is what I'm asking about, I guess....I wouldn't mind hearing an element of it ring through in a soundtrack or two in particular moments in the new films, maybe....

What do you guys think? How would you feel about it? Do you think it'd be cool or should they have no place in the new films at all?

What possible reason could they have not to use them? Reused elements are probably going to be mostly from the OT soundtrack but there are definitely going to be a few from the PT as well.

I have no idea....maybe because they weren't in the original films, or something? I don't know....but I hope you're right! It would sure be great....

attack of the clones is my favorite score of all six films. the anakin/padme theme is amazing and i can't imagine there won't be hints of it in AT LEAST the entire trilogy.. especially since this is a continuation of the skywalker story. as for the duel of the fates, we can all hope.. if not, i'm sure williams will compose something equally as epic.

I loved the Across The Stars score, I also liked little Anakin's score from The Phantom Menace a lot.....Battle Of The Heroes/Anakin VS Obi Wan is a favorite of mine, I'd love to see it show up, but I doubt it will....

If any music was used, it would have to fit thematically - whether it be story or character. I'm a prequel fan and I agree that the music is phenomenal, but I just don't see it happening. One of the great things in Star Wars is that music isn't ever used "just because music." It has a role in the storytelling.

We will hear themes of The Geonisis arena, Duel of the Fates, and Padmé's theme when we see her funeral .

We WILL see themes throughout, since we can't be alienated from ST as young or old as we are and/or force each other to see things we might potentially not like...so, we WILL hear things, as @Old Biff from the Future has said, it would be thematic elements but not outright scoring those exact tracks all over again, similar to how might be getting a new(ish) theme for The millennium Falcon, we will see that similarity with The PT, I think.

Well that's what I was saying, maybe at particular moments, but I guess that depends on if there would even be particular moments where it might work to use any of the music of the prequels to begin with, so maybe that's the better question to ask....?

Seeing as they're on a kind of "F**k the prequels" trip, I assumed naturally no, which is why I started this thread....

Would Duel Of The Fates put in there with some force moments work at all or is that strictly a prequel thing, you guys think?

And that's what I'm saying. What does "Duel of the Fates" mean? What does it symbolize? I'm not entirely sure, to be honest. John Williams knows, though. ;) That's a good example to use, because it's become iconic music. If the "thing" that piece represents is present in TFA, I say bring it on. That would be a great tie-in. I just think that the things facing the galaxy in TFA times are different than the things facing it in prequel times.

I agree, and they were different in the prequels from what they were in the original films, too, that's why John Williams wanted the music to have a more pseudo religious sound to it what with the choirs and all to go with the more "religious" nature of the force/jedi back then, supposedly (despite the midichlorians ;) )... whereas in the original films the force was more mysterious.

So I'm wondering what the force will be like in this film, and if something like "Duel Of The Fates" would even be "appropriate" now? Or is it just another addition to the arsenal of music they can use for when displays of the force are shown in general, regardless of era....?

Duel of the Fates i swear have heard themes in Rebels, TCW, etc. not sure though. It really goes well wi
th any new soundtracks, but it's has so much depth that i don't see why it wujldn't be used with so many meanings .

I find myself whistling Dual of the Fates sometimes... on the way to work, lol

It's John Williams and all iconic...

I wouldn't mind hearing some faint undertones in this trilogy

I hope most of the music is new with the exception of the main themes.

If they are going to use PT music they should be used sparingly.

What I liked about the PT and OT scores was that they helped give their own era's an identity.

When you hear OT music, you'd know it came from the OT,
when you hear PT music, you'd know it came from the PT,
when I hear ST music, I want to be able to quickly identify it with the ST.

Yes, "faint undertones", as you put it, is key.

I have a feeling that PT origins will be used to Rey's theme...

I was under the impression that "Duel of the Fates" was indicative of the Dark Side, of a similar manner as to how the Imperial March represents the Empire.
The two main instances we hear it are obviously during the duel in TPM, and when Anakin first starts drifting down the dark path during his search for his mother in AotC.
I think that if some of the speculation is right, and Rey does grapple with the Dark Side in a significant manner, there's a good chance it'll show up.

I'll also throw in that of all the PT music, Duel probably has the highest chance of showing up, it's one of the more recognizable tracks not tied to a specific person.

We also hear it, I believe, during Palpatine's and Yoda's duel at the end of ROTS. I pretty much agree with you about its meaning... although it's a little more specific towards "destiny" and Palpatine's plan being enacted.

I'm still not of the mind that anything from the PT will be overtly used, but I'd be surprised if anything wasn't referenced.
