What I always dreamed of seeing in a SW sequel trilogy was not just the original Big 3 of the OT back together again but to see Luke as an Obi-Wan type Jedi Master training a new order of Jedi Knights consisting of hundreds it not thousands of new Jedis likely going up against an army of thousands of Sith Warriors duking it out in an armageddon/apoclyptic like conflict in the climax of Episode IX. But I'm beginning to suspect that we might not see it in Episode IX since Luke has gone into hiding by the time of TFA and not there no other force sensitive people other then Rey and Finn in the ST. And it seems likely that there will be only two new Jedis Rey and Finn going up against not the Sith but the Knights of Ren.

But is it possible that Disney/LFL are saving a story about a confrontation between hundreds of Jedi and Sith warriors for a SST Episodes X-XII which may come out as early as 2021 or 2025. And that this massive Jedi Order may not be trained by Luke since likely he'll die in Episode IX but by Rey and Finn in the SST?

Personally, I think the Sith should be left in the past and new Dark Side force users should go forward in the future. I'm still not sure if I feel the same way about the Jedi though...either way, I do want to see the story you're presenting, but I don't think it'll happen until the SST at the earliest, or at least at the scale you're thinking of. This IMO fits better as a KOTOR-esque story, but who knows.

Here's how I see the New Jedi Order will build up over the next 6 films or 2 trilogies.

1.Episode VII:TFA We meet the first new members of the New Jedi Order Rey and Finn. Finn has his first lightsaber duel with Renn.

2.Episode VIII:Rey and Finn train under Luke Skywalker while to confront Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren. Rey and Finn confront Kylo and the Knights of Ren in a duel on a remote planet, moon or even on an asteroid in a distant part of the galaxy but perhaps either Rey and/or Finn lose a hand or arm while fighting them similar to Luke losing his hand in TESB.

3.Episode IX:Rey and Finn are full Jedi Knighs and eventually defeat Kylo Ren but not the Knights of Ren.

4.Episode X:Rey and Finn are now Jedi Masters and train a new army of Jedi which are now in the hundreds to defeat to battle the Knights of Ren which may also have increased into an order of hundreds too and may even have an awesome armada of ships to battle the Jedi and the New Republic. Rey and Finn and an older Poe Dameron take on the Knights of Ren armada in their upgraded X-Wings.

5.Episode XI:The Battle with the Jedi Armada and New Republic fleet are temporarily defeated as the Knights of Ren take over 50% of New Republic Space.

6.Episode XII:The New Republic and the Jedi seek allies with the Mandlorian Fleet and the Hapan Fleet to help in their final space battle against the Knights of Ren armada and the Knights of Ren themselves and their aramda are finally defeated in a lightsaber battle on a remote planet or moon in the Outer Rim or Unknown Regions or Wild Space and in deep space. Rey and Finn pass the torch onto the next generation perhaps their kids who will become the heroes of Episodes XIII-XV.

The idea of a sith army vs jedi army sounds cool but I can't help but wonder whether it will feel more like lords of the ring than star wars. As far as I know the sith have been eradicated since the two were killed off in ROTJ. I think the darkside will have evolved in a different way to the sith in the new trilogy. There will be a war between the light and dark side of the force without a doubt. How that will manifest itself remains to be seen.

There could be a dozen or so Jedi by Episode IX but by Episode X they could increase about 100 knights like it was in NJO. But I think at least by the end of the SST if not the ST in Episode XII the New Jedi Order could still increase to an order of hundreds of knights.

That would be interesting and bring it kinda of full circle? It would be interesting to see how they rebuild a New Order and in what fashion and purpose behind it? I wouldn't think they would need to have thousands of Jedi in order to do that, i say that because one becomes to large and to much like what happened to the old Order and it loses it purpose and place in the force.

If we do get an SST, that is where I'd figure this scenario most likely, if it's to be in one or the other.

That does depend though on the time frame in between each film of the ST. The usual is a handful of years in-between each of the films within a trilogy, with the exception of the TPM-AOTC split, which was something like 10 years or so. Gut feeling tells me they'll stick to the shorter time frames though, and considering that I'd find it hard to believe that such large forces on either side could be built up so quickly, which is why I lean toward the SST option.

All in all though, I'm not really sure they'd do that in any of the upcoming trilogy films. It's kind of what they did in the PT (but one-sided with just the Jedi in high numbers), and the general response seems to be lackluster after some time. We get used to seeing the supermen fight in large numbers, while at the same time an intimate one-on-one of Vader and Luke still keeps us glued to the screen no matter how often we've seen it.

Such large numbers of users on both sides has more of an Anthology feel to me in all honesty. Perhaps some Old Republic-centered film.
