    In the new Entertainment Weekly, the guy who built R2 for TFA says he is currently working on Rogue One. Does that mean we will see R2 and maybe C3p0? Or is he just building other droids for this. Thoughts?

    Interesting.

    Keep in mind that they did work on BB-8, so whatever droids they come up with might not be directly tied to R2-D2.

    I think the answer is no... Because his story has already been told... Unless they stick to Lucas' idea that the story is from the droids perspective

    If he showed up in Rebels, I can see this working out as well. I just hope he's not in the droid socket of someone else's X-wing...

    If R2 and 3PO aren't in Rogue One I will riot. Well, not really, but they need to be in there, even if it's just a cameo. Maybe we'll see them at the end of the film on the Tantive IV.

    I think we'll see other Astro-Mech droids but not R2 himself. They'll probably introduce some with different personalities. I'd love it if R5-D4 showed up though! They could have him constantly breaking down and needing service.

    I really don't think they're going to go that far. That would be a pretty abrupt place to end a movie, not to mention that Rogue One is a prequel and not a movie taking place concurrently with the other films.

    Right. But that doesn't mean we see the movie completely lead into A New Hope. Just like how we only catch the beginning and the ending of the Clone Wars in Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, and not anything in between (as far as the movies go).

    Maybe your right, I wasn't hoping for that but I would have liked to see a scene where a vessel called Rogue One makes a valiant last stand against the Avenger & it's CO takes one last look at Tantive IV before it enters lightspeed, let me have some hope please.

    In "A New Hope" is is very clearly stated that the Tantive IV "intercepted" "transmissions" of the "plans." Based on what we know of SW technology from other sources, this would almost certainly have been done in a line-of-sight way (a premise just exploited in "Moving Targets.") So I would be very surprised if the Tantive doesn't show up at some point near the end, and quite possibly the droids, as well. I'm just disappointed that there is no indication that Jimmy Smits is involved in this movie.

    Well there is an astromech droid in the Rogue One cast pic, though that it is R2-D2 is just a guess.

    Ehhh... I'm not quite sure. Based just on that picture I think that could be a helmet or a trash can, not necessarily an astromech.

    On the main topic though:
    I wouldn't be opposed to a tiny R2 cameo at the very end, but I don't think it's necessary and I hope he doesn't play too large of a role in the story.

    I definitely think it is an astromech droid, but I think the coloring points to it being not R2-D2.

    If Artoo was in Rogue One (which he probably won't be) I'd imagine that they'd give him the correct coloring.
