    Good call on this one....

    Plus, I think they should keep to an all new cast with all new characters. Perhaps, R2 ad 3PO are on another adventure. In the prequels it was just to much that Obi-Wan knew R2 and Anakin built Vader, not to mention Yoda knew Chewbacca! I am all for as little connection to "A NEW HOPE" character as possible.

    I'm guessing at most it would be a cameo... but even then, I doubt it. R2-D2 didn't become relevant to the overall Saga again (in terms of film chronology) until Leia crammed the plans into his mouth-brain.

    The whole idea behind Artoo and Threepio is that they are unimportant players who get caught up in/witness major events. Shoehorning them into absolutely everything misses the point.

    I bet R2D2 will be in Rogue One. I think he was once Wedge Antilles' droid. It would make sense to see Wedge with him.

    I think that there will be Astromechs and Protocol droids in this trilogy...but doesn't Leia own C-3PO and R2-D2 before they fall into Luke's hands?

    Obi-Wan knew Artoo ONLY because he basically belonged to The Republic, at the time, and The Jedi were working for The Republic. Obi-Wan meeting Artoo was just a coincidence like if Mace Windu or a clone trooper or any other Jedi who flew in TCW used An Astromech Droid. Anakin built Threepio based off of blueprints that he came across in Watto's junk shop. Anakin was simply a skilled builder/inventor so he built Threepio to not think about his sh*tty life as a slave. As for Yoda knowing Chewbacca....well, that was just unfinished/lazy storytelling.

    Same here, frankly, I'd be annoyed if Artoo just happens to be the one and only astro-droid constantly around when something important happens in this vast galaxy.

    Give the astro-droids from the second row, i.e. the R-2 "bucketheads" and the "coneheads" some long time overdue exposure and interesting personalities (rather than to create new designs).

    If rouge one has any dealings with captain Antilles "not wedge" captain Antilles is on the tantive iv, the ambassador vessel for alderaan at the were in possession of Bail organa last time we saw them (episode three and rebels: droids in distress), where the plans get delivered or at the very least end up.
