SPECULATION Will we see (SPOILER FROM LAST JEDI) in Episode 9?

I'm torn apart by this. Somehow his absence would have a bigger impact. But at the same it would be nice to see him again in some form.

I think Luke will appear as a force ghost. I think Rey needs more guidance, and Luke is the natural choice for this.

 

He told Kylo he will haunt him; and we saw Yoda interact with the real world - so I think unquestionably we will see him. Think about the real world circumstances too - Carrie is sadly gone, they need more than Chewie and the droids to bridge the trilogies.. and Hamill is being praised for his performance in VIII. It’s all been set up in those final scenes.

There needs to be a scene with all the Jedi who have the force ghost ability and qui gons voice trying to get Kylo to turn or helping Rey. That would help tie everything together.

 

If they are turning Kylo to help Rey, who would he help rey against?

 

If Kylo doesn’t turn then it’s helping Rey against Kylo.

 

He said that to Kylo Ren, we will meet again.

I fully expect to see ghost Luke in IX. I think Rey will return to Ahch-To at some point and he will show up there.

It would be really funny to see ghost Luke and ghost Annakin busting on Kylo.
Anakin - "My grandmother can swing a lightsaber better than that! And I don't even have a grandmother!"
Luke - "Yeah, tell your dad he needs to pay for more lessons. Oops, guess you can't do that!"
Kylo - "Geez, guys. Give me a break!"

 

I hope so. He did say he was going to haunt Kylo.......like the Joker.

 

I'm inclined to believe so. His death was set up for him to come back, just as Obi-Wan and Yoda did.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but if this happens—and I am NOT suggesting the film will or should be a rehash of Return of the Jedi—I would love for them to have a reunion with the original three at the end via Force ghosts. I know they said they won't digitally recreate Carrie Fisher as Leia, but if they have just enough footage for one brief shot of her with Han and Luke's Force ghosts, at least we could say we did technically get a reunion between the three of them in this trilogy. (But again, you'd have to explain why Han was there as he clearly had no interest in any of that stuff.)

But back on topic... I almost feel like Luke is necessary in some ways because he essentially taught Rey nothing in The Last Jedi. If anything, he learned more from her than she did from him. Although she has some inexplicable natural ability with the Force, I would imagine she needs some guidance, and who better to give it to her than Luke?

 

I think there will be a time skip between VIII and IX and that Luke will have spent the ensuing time trolling the ever-living crap out of his nephew. I mean, wouldn't you?

 

I feel pretty confident we see him again in IX. It would be a waste to establish some new rules with force ghost in TLJ and the books to not deliver on them using Luke. We witnessed force ghost Yoda bring lightening down. There's some stuff to be explored there.

It wouldn't surprise me if the connection back to the prequels is not a sith ghost.

 

To me, his return is 100% required for two major reasons:

1. It's wholly consistent with Kenobi and Yoda's "fate"
2. JJ will likely want to reel back in the segment of fans who were utterly bent by him dying
