SPECULATION Will we see Zillo Beasts?

    In series 2 of TCW we see the discovery of the (thought to be) last Zillo Beast on Malastare. The creature is taken back to Coruscant for research, but escapes and lays waste to a decent chunk of Coruscant. Upon its death, Palpatine orders its cloning and that is (as far as I'm aware) the last we hear of the Zillo Beasts. Could we see a return in Rebels?

    I think that if Rebels goes on for a long time, that is a distinct possibility, if not in Rebels, I think we will see the Zillo Beast pop up again at some point again in the new canon, TCW episodes definitely left things open for a return of some sort.

    I thought Zillo Beasts were an interesting idea both visually and in conceptualisation. I'd love to see what became of them. It's clear that their armour never got used for stormtroopers!

    I wouldn't count them out. They got a few episodes out of it, they could bring them back in some way and get another few episodes out of them.

    Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if Palpatine could have possibly had some clandestine genetic research done on them, in order to eventually utilize/grow some things that could be useful to him. I know the old EU had some stories about crazy Sith alchemy and weird creations, but I don't think they'd go that far into it.

    in a recent interview, someone actually asked Filoni about this, and he stated that the Zillo is simply out of the scope of what they can do in Rebels, and was a real technical challenge to do in TCW.

    I'd love to see a bit more of that side of the Sith. I was hoping for that in the Lords of the Sith novel, but alas, we were not so lucky!
    I see! That's pretty crazy, I didn't consider the technical restrictions or anything. Maybe if we don't see the beasts themselves we may see a product of the research on them (armour, weapons, etc.).

    Interesting, never thought about that aspect, I wonder if that means they have less of a budget on Rebels than they did on TCW. Regardless of whether that story thread gets followed up on in Rebels, I'm sure that it will get touched on at some point in the new canon material going forward.
