When Ruby Dee wails at the end of Do the Right Thing, I choke up EVERY SINGLE TIME. When Liam Neeson loses it in Schindler's List this is right around the time I lose it too. I've also been known to choke up when my kids give me an awesome Christmas gift.

So I am one of those men who will shed tears. I am not afraid to cry.

That said, most "action" films fail to make me cry. I don't think you can get the rich character and exposition required to make me cry in an action film. The structure of an action film is meant to exhilarate and inspire. You are meant to both identify with and admire the protagonist and generally a good action film will reward that emotion by ensuring the character triumphs. Action films tend to make me cheer a lot, I can still feel that thrill I felt at 11 years of age, when the Falcon comes out of that lens flare to provide the distraction Luke needs to destroy the Death Star in IV. Han cries, "You're all clear kid..." and each time I hear that line I am instantly transported back to 1977.

It's magical, but it doesn't produce tears.

I pay very close attention to my emotions the first time a new Star Wars film flashes its crawl in front of me. I get nostalgic, I tend to focus on where I was and what I was doing for each of the six films when it released, but it never produces tearful nostalgia. It's a more clinical process that helps me both digest and judge the film I'm about to watch and Star Wars films make me cheer and clap out loud more than any film franchise in history.

But tears? Nah, it's a different kind of emotion for me.

i generally well up during emotional movies, so i'm fairly sure it'll happen during TFA. i don't really cry, but i get into movies on the emotional level. having said that, if this movie sucks (heaven forbid!) then i will certainly not cry, even if Han or Luke bite the dust.

I doubt it, but if I do then it would mean the movie has reached perfection.

I cry at everything. In fact, my kids always give me these sidelong glances when we watch movies together, to see if I am crying. I think I'm part of the entertainment.
I agree that Star Wars movies aren't tearjerkers usually, but I have a feeling that is about to change. I think the drama and emotion is going to be DEFCON level 1 in TFA.

Yes! The score is everything. The first trailer where the MF streaks into the sky to the main Star Wars theme already got me going. And we have a master at work. I'm preparing to be thrilled- and buy the soundtrack!

It might- she'll cry, then you can pull her in closely to comfort her, and then she'll think you're sweet and snuggle in gratefully with a little sniff and then..... OH NO I'VE MADE MYSELF CRY JUST THINKING ABOUT IT!!

I am normally not that much of a movie crier, but since I bawled like a baby at that last trailer... chances are good, I will.
Even more so, should they dare to break up my OTP.
I will be furious and yeah, bawling like a baby :(

    ...like a little baby.

I already cry when watching the trailers, not out of sadness but out of happiness.

Yep. I'm going with pops the first go round. He's gonna be glancing at me I know it. I should have done it the other way around. Get the crying out of the way the first time then watch it with pops the second. It's easier to cry in front of complete strangers then is is my dad. But hey whatever. I didn't wait three years just to hold back my inevitable tears. The 3D glasses will help somewhat until water starts rolling down my face! LOL.

There's a saying..............it takes a man to cry. I agree. I'm the type of dude that wear's my heart on my sleeve. To this day I cry when Elliot looks into the sky as E.T.'s ship lifts into the air. Elliot had such a courageous look on his face that it's like I felt I cried for him. We have tears for a reason and I'm not ashamed to shed them. Though depending on the setting it can feel a little awkward sometimes.

I have no doubt that the first note of the crawl will bring the tears out. and probably the ending as well.

I got chills at the first teaser. I got misty-eyed at the 2nd teaser. I still feel tears well up every time Rey says "we've heard stories" in the full trailer. Hell, I even got a little choked up watching that new Star Wars Duracell commercial!

I will definitely be emotional and probably in tears at some point when I watch the movie.

Star Wars, when done right, is like a direct brain connection to my childhood. I can't help but feel a wash of emotions. It means a lot to me.

Couple that with the intense and drawn-out anticipation for this event, and you have a recipe for a grown man crying in public on December 17th!

If I cried when Will Smith's dog died in "I AM LEGEND," then I will cry in this movie.

I think the best trailer we've seen is the Japanese trailer...we fell in love with TFA's first teaser, in part, because we were surrounded by STAR WARS, the cast, and our community as a whole so it made it that much more special. But if we watch again, we will still smile, but it won't be the same as that very first time.

I got the super chills in Teaser #1, teary eyed and full of epic "YEEEEESSS!!!" moments during Teaser #2, and got choked up and cried when Han said, "The Dark Side... The Jedi..... They're real." (To be seen on my YouTube channel on that last one) The Japanese trailer didn't do that for me at all though. We are so close to the premiere that I am just full of energy and ready to see this movie. The TV spot even had me going "Oh my gosh...." with no tears and running on pure hype. I think we went from excitement, to tears, to "real sets..... practical effects.....", back to tears last month, and now we are back at excitement again. Star Wars is cyclic just like our emotions on these movies. I think we can expect a plethora of everything during the actual movie itself. I will get choked up and maybe cry at some really emotional scenes and at the John Williams music of course (I breathe John Williams music almost daily, no joke). I will get choked up if someone dies too. I will have tissues on hand just incase. I know I won't be the only one. If they kill off a childhood hero of ours, man that is going to get real emotional. Really deep.... but it's for the better of the series in the end. You have to have the bad moments sometimes to get to the good story moments later. It has happened in Star Wars and it is bound to happen again. I got shivers watching Qui-Gon die as a child myself because he came off as a very father-like figure. However, Obi-Wan's death to me was very subtle and powerful. It resonated in me as him becoming selfless and absorbing himself into the Force like his master did before him. I think the fact that Obi-Wan seemed ready to let go made death seem much easier. I would imagine this is how I would want to die someday myself. Just to let it happen and move on to another side. Enough about me... we will all be crying during TFA at some point or at least choked up. The only ones who won't are the ones that will be seeing Star Wars for the first time and not understand the value of certain characters in the series because they have no reference. I am so excited and @Lord Phanatic and I are talking about maybe seeing it at least once together at some point. Maybe a discussion session afterwards?

Probably. I didn't think we were ever going to get sequels to the original trilogy. Now I get to see them with my 11 year old son.
