    It's used for two main purposes: To express and encourage the conversation, and to have fun. Likewise, the negative ratings are to aid when someone is being a troll, jerk, or nuisance. If one post gets a ton of negatives because the person said "I was disappointed in TLJ", that isn't right. The poster isn't being a party pooper nor are they trying to criticize anyone who likes the film. They are just expressing their opinion.
    If that poster said "Ryan Johnson deserves to rot in a nasty dungeon", then the negatives are fair. Hopefully that person would learn that there are better ways of expressing their opinion and explaining why they didn't the film.

    At the end of the day, the ratings are an expression of what you would/will post. I am not a big fan of the "like bombing" that a lot of people do, because while it is nice to rack up a lot of internet points, it's evil twin is not acceptable.
    Yeah, but if it's targeted that's not really fair. I mean, unless you deserve it. :p

    The ratings system is a feature of our forum that's in place to add another dimension to the conversations. It's a feature that is to be used responsibly and with self control.
    We've had members go to all out negative rating war because instead of issuing a negative rating at the right time for the right reasons, they lose all control and start slapping negative ratings on another members posts simply out of spite. The Cantina is an awesome an unique star wars forum because the members here demonstrate intelligence, balance and respect for one another 95% of the time. Our ratings system is to be used with mature discretion. We've even had problems at times, though very few and far between, with members dishing out literally thousands of likes. Even that can cause a disruption. To much of anything is abusive.

    I happen to know this guy does NOT negatively rate users for disliking the film. He dislikes posts when others attempt to derail discussions, or bait/troll. And he's only touched a small fraction of your posts.

    He actually enjoys discussions with haters of the film, as long as both parties are reasonable with each other. ;)

    Anyways, I just pre-ordered digital 4K via VUDU. Can't wait to watch tomorrow while traveling!

    I have to agree with this, and must admit I give people disagree ratings all the time but I don't do it in a spiteful or hateful way, I only do it when I truly disagree with what someone says, and that's okay (to me). If they say "I love TLJ." I give them a disagree, because I don't love TLJ - I of course still respect their opinion, but I don't agree with it.

    Switching disagree to a positive rather than a negative could help keep things constructive.

    Just a thought.

    It's bizarre to me that you have to do anything at all. You have to give a rating every time you see something you don't like? Here's a thought. Either engage with the person and discuss the reasons you disagree or just move on to the next post.

    I don't really feel compelled to buy either TFA or TLJ right now. I'd like to see how the story ends first before I make any purchase decisions. I'll probably end up getting the sequel trilogy box set at some point, though.

    About the "rating" sub-theme in the thread, I've never given anyone anything other than a positive rating. If I disagree with someone and it's important enough to me, I'll actually have a discussion with them explaining my point of view. If it's not that important, I'll let it go. I'm not about to put a permanent record of my disagreement on someone else's profile. :)

    I was raised in an environment where it was perfectly okay to disagree with someone, regardless of it needing further discussion or not. Disagreeing is not an attack or negative act. Most adults can handle this just fine. I'm sorry if that's bizarre to you.

    Did you like TLJ? Will you be purchasing it?
