This is feeling like Black Mirror where people are super sensitive about their ratings. Do we get a bonus of something for having more green? I'm confused.

I put a dislike if someone has an opinion of SW that I think (feel) hurts SW (imo). It's not that I don't understand that they like it, it's that I really don't. That said, I've been using more disagree than dislike since I was slapped with an e-mail a while back regarding this. Apparently some people are sensitive getting red, so I switched to yellow as was suggested to me. Clouded also works.

I don't keep tabs on who I give what and who gives me what. Though some names you get familiar with, some I realize I'm usually at odds with I will go out of my way to give them a like if they're just in the ball park of me agreeing with them.

I hope no one takes offence, I think different people look at the ratings and their meanings differently. I can honestly say I've never put a dislike as something personal.

I don't give anyone a bad rating for liking the movie. I'm happy for everyone who enjoyed it, I just didn't.

Regarding buying and completing the collection, at least 1 thing is 100% clear, for the first time I won't buy a new copy on release date. I may still get some time later (months/years) a used copy of the movie (when I may feel so). But it is just not something that I must have. That's it.

No. Just please try to watch the negative rating excess. Thanks.

    There is, it's through conversation.

The negative ratings are more to discourage antagonism. If it's a simple matter of just not seeing eye to eye and you can't bear to give them a positive, we have the neutral ratings.

We've veered quite a bit off course here, but I think the "neutral" ratings don't quite have the desired effect. I think they're often seen as a passive aggressive way of rating when a negative feels a bit harsh. I look at it this way- if I saw someone with almost 50% of their ratings bar as yellow, I'd assume that they were pretty antagonistic on these forums, even if they just had gotten a bunch of "disagrees".

I do like the idea of a "respectfully disagree" positive rating, as it could be a way to reward civil discourse even when two parties are not in agreement.

And obviously, yes, simply replying and continuing discussion is often the best way to address a post.

Also, I know this might not seem fair (and I try to only throw out bad ratings if a user is being hostile) but it shouldn't be surprising that if a user logs in every day to constantly and redundantly whine about the new movie, obviously some of the users in this Star Wars forum are going to be upset about that.

Anyway, just my two cents. And man, just to keep this in some semblance of being on topic- I'm so tempted to get the digital copy today, even though I'm definitely getting a physical copy as well.

Again, I'm just saying that disagreeing isn't a bad thing. If we could all agree or disagree and still get along this world would be a much better place.

Would it be possible to change Disagree to something like, "Agree to Disagree?" being purely positive? With maybe a Han and Leia icon, or something that represents that opinion in Star Wars fashion?

I don't feel the need to put someone on an ignore list just because I disagree with them. I will continue to use the negative ratings according to the forum rules, and directed at posts that are detrimental, derailing, insulting, or straight up lies and slander. And yes, I will use the report button if necessary.

In short, all of the things I'm already doing. The only reason I addressed of any of this is because I was being called out in here for doing something I did not do.

Anyways. Honestly trying to get back on topic.

I caved and did exactly this. Watching 4K digital feature, and deleted scenes with commentary this afternoon during travel for work. Looking forward to it.

Ok so this rating thing is still rumbling on so just a quick note about why certain rating were removed.

Initially a load of Dislike ratings were removed from post simply saying they would be purchasing TLJ & Later it became apparent that member who said that they wouldn't purchase TLJ were getting Dislike or Troll ratings these were also removed.
The Disagree ratings were romeved later on because of the number that were given hence the spamming warning.

Haha, we have. I'll comment on a few things, then let's move on. :)
We've played with the idea of the "Agree to Disagree" rating, but at the end of the day, that's pretty much what the "Friendly" BB-8 rating is. I personally use the ratings either as the direct meaning, or in an ironic way, but to each his own. The main concern is spamming and abusing the rating system. Yes, it's a little funny, but it's just for fun.
Funny how that works, isn't it?! :D
That is true. If someone is doing that, they probably aren't engaging in discussion, just spouting out their view with no interest in opposing views. Not everyone is like that, but that's my personal observation, and this is coming from a guy who was disappointed in the film. There are ways to talk through things and not be a party pooper. (In fact, you can be the life of the party even with a less than popular opinion! ;))
    So that's that.
The problem we have with whole "Agreeing to disagree" with people is that they don't want to come to terms with that. A rating could be useful, but check my response above. I don't think it would serve us any better. If someone can logically and reasonably come to that conclusion, what help would a rating be?

Believe me, if people could just agree to disagree, my job would have been a lot easier over the past severals months!

I'm in the group of people buying it to complete the collection and because it's star wars. I feel no excitement or anticipation however, which is a first for any star wars movie for me. The only scene I thoroughly enjoy is the throne room scene and star wars social media has been using it so much for their marketing lately I feel like that is already ruined too.

Yes. It's still Star Wars and I am still a complete-ist so not only will I buy it, but it will have to be the Best Buy Steelbook version. However, I certainly won't be lined up on release day. I'll get it when I get it.

I’m finding myself in kind of a tough spot in terms of whether to buy TLJ (and also Coco). I have a 4K TV, and I feel like I would be more likely to buy the movies if I could get them in glorious 4K. But I don’t watch movies at home that often, and buying a 4K Blu-Ray player would take a lot of money and space for something I wouldn’t use all that much.

As an Apple person, it would be great to buy them in 4K on iTunes, but Disney is the only major studio refusing to sell 4K content there. With 4K really starting to take off, regular Blu-Ray/HD feels like a downgrade at this point, so all of a sudden I feel like there are no purchase options that are right for me.

The Rian Johnson fan club members can follow me around the threads to try and ridicule me all they like. I won't be buying anything from that guy and I won't be touching his new trilogy with a barge pole. His stories are rancid. I'd feel much better giving my money to save the children, which I will probably do.

Just buy the 4k Bluray and it should come with a code to get the digital version and sell the bluray without the code on Ebay for cheap. People do that all the time on Ebay. Assuming TLJ will be the same as other 4k Blurays. Also XBOX One S is the best cheapest 4k bluray player out there right now. Shouldn't be hard to find them used if you ever want to go down that route.

Rian Johnson only directed that episode. It was written by Moira Walley-Beckett.

Can you imagine being so jaded as to apply this logic to everything?

"I will boycott 'Director X' because I don't like a movie they did."

I'd never watch another Spielberg again after The Crystal Skull. Everyone would miss out on Avatar and Titanic when they wrote off James Cameron after his cringey 1981 pirannah flick.

People are obviously "entitled" to their opinions... but this sort of attitude is simply "entitled".
