Luke & Leia smooched in ESB, and then became siblings in ROTJ, so if that incesstual plotline didn't drive me away then nothing will.

Of course not, that's rediculous. Will you move to Australia if trump is elected? No. Hilary? No. Throwing fits with no follow through just to try and get your way is a waste of time and make people sound dumb.

    IMHO

Not at all. Heck, I'd prefer she was not a Skywalker!;)

I picked up sticks and left Star Wars behind for 12 years after AotC. I picked up a showing of RotS just to finish it off. In the late 2000s I sold a great deal of my memrobilia off in a yard sale. I didn't really come back until JJ began rolling film in may of 2014.:(
    It can happen.

REY is both a SKYWALKER and a KENOBI...... Thus making what KK said about the saga, it being about the SKYWALKERS. The saga has always been about the HERO = SKYWALKER and REY is that HERO.

Will I stop watching star wars? answer is NO...
Many things from the OT and PT never made me stop, so why this silly question would?

No. While the Skywalkers are the focal point of conflict, they're not everything that I fell in love with as a kid. The droids, creatures, ships, Han Solo and numerous other characters. Star Wars is more than one family. Star Wars is about galactic conflict whether Skywalkers are alive or not.

for me, the very best thing about TFA is that it has fueled a dozen conversations regarding the direction the story will take.. and the parentage of all the new characters.

we all get heated when we talk about our beloved star wars.. it's incredibly personal to each and every one of us.

It's a beautiful.. truly beautiful thing that we all have our own thoughts and wishes about Rey.

Yes i think she is Luke's daughter, but only because that's where i think the story was heading. If the story takes me elsewhere.. i will still love star wars and i will still talk star wars with all you guys. it's what we do peeps!!

Certainly not! While I like the idea of Rey being a Skywalker, her not being one wouldn't drive me away. What I would have a problem with though, is her just being a complete nobody without any prior training or connections to the Jedi. If she is indeed just a nobody, then the allegations about her being a Mary Sue would actually be true. She does to many amazing things in the film for the idea of her simply being a nobody from a backwater planet to be plausible. I also think that the film seems to hint in a number of ways that there is more to Rey's background. Discarding all of that stuff as red herrings, plus the seemingly overpowered nature of her character without more to her background would simply be bad writing IMO. Even then though, I would still watch the movies, despite my disappointment.

What is important is that this saga is the Skywalker saga. If Rey is not a Skywalker and remains the main character, then I'm not interested anymore for a very simple reason: it's a treason to what Lucas intended Star Wars to be, and no, I wouldn't be interested anymore. He clearly defined the way to go: Saga films, the Skywalker story, and anthology films for everything else. I don't care at all they changed the story he had in mind because that's normal in Hollywood, and both Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi benefit from that, but let the Skywalkers be the holders of the saga.

The only thing that could made me interested is a very good reason Rey is not a Skywalker, and an agressive main character switch in VIII, from Rey to Ben.

By the way, I hardly doubt sh's not a Skywalker.

If I were honest, I think the entire direction is subpar to the EU stories that have already existed prior to TFA. The story they have begun, so far, looks like it will be okay, but not great like it could have been. However, I got over it when they killed Han, I got over the lack of Luke Skywalker, and the fact that we will never have the big 3 together in the Falcon again, so ... I guess I will have to get over it if they mistakenly make Rey NOT a Skywalker, that she needs to be.

Whatever she ends up being - Skywalker, Solo, Kenobi, Palpatine, nobody, clone, reincarnation, etc - I guess it will all depend on how the story is developed. I think so far her character is great in her own account, regardless of her origin. I agree: the Skywalkers are the main plotline in this saga, but we have discovered so far that there are other characters that interact with them and enrich the whole thing, and they are not Skywalkers (Yoda, Kenobi, Mace Windu, Ahsoka, Maul, Kanan, Ezra, Hera, etc). So in my opinion I don't reckon her origin would make me stop watching Star Wars.

Either way, I'm looking forward to a mentor-student relationship rather than a long lost father-daughter relationship.
In most stories, kids training under their parents tend to be brats and self righteous and self entitled. I wouldn't want that for Rey

Ironically, if Luke were already dead then I would definately say she's his daughter.

If the PT and OT were the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker then the ST is the legacy of Anakin Skywalker.

Whatever redemption Anakin did, the fruits of labor from his time being evil are still being felt.

His descendants are going to forever be eyed and molded by the forces of evil simply because he was. And the forces of evil will never let up doing that. Kylo is basically what Luke and Leia could have been if Yoda and Obi wan didn't hide them as babies and not tell them of their lineage.

Kylo being Anakin's grandkid is what caused Snoke to seek him. Vader himself did the same to Luke once he found out he was his son. He even taunted Luke as soon as he found out he had a daughter too that he'd seek her out.

Not only that but Anakin's reign as Darth Vader appears to be looked on as favorable by Kylo.

The meaning of just what the legacy of Anakin should be is being diverted between one path (Luke) and another evil path (Kylo).

Rey's journey at at the moment is helping the righteous legacy that Luke is trying to maintain. whether she's his daughter or not remains to be seen.

If she is his blood daughter, one thing is for sure: She needs to be celibate and not have offspring that could be manipulated by outside forces like Anakin and Kylo were.
Or if she has offspring, she needs to hide them with false identities the moment they're born like Luke , Leia and allegedly herself were to prevent being eyed by evil forces and have a somewhat safe childhood.

If Rey is a blood Skywalker there's no way she can raise her children openly as Skywalkers as this point. Han and Leia tried.

That's why the argument that the Skywalker name and bloodline has to live on is crazy. Anakin screwed his descendants over and there's no way to take it back.

I remember a line from the documentary "Star Wars: Legacy Revealed" where the scholar being interviewed brought up the theme of multiple generations of a family being punished for an ancestor's sin in the Jewish scriptures.

For all the fun and excitement, the Star Wars galaxy is actually pretty cynical, once you come down to it: democracies turn into bloated, corrupt institutions dedicated to self-preservation; the good guys often see their efforts destroyed by their own lack of foresight; pan-galactic war is practically the default condition. It's certainly far less optimistic than, say, Star Trek. It's leaps and bounds more positive than Warhammer 40K, but that isn't exactly difficult. A family that keeps getting flagellated by themselves and the galaxy at large for the crimes of their forebear would be par for the course.

No,I won't stop-pretty much as everyone else(although there IS one person claiming this in the poll). I expect either Rey,in any of many ways,to be a Skywalker,or Kylo to be redeemed but the first option sounds more realistic.
