Totally agree. I feel kinda awful for making light of his situation. It's gotta be really, really hard to have had the role of a lifetime when you're so young in a film so derided from pretty much all corners. That's a huge weight, and I daresay that it's a rare person that could have a normal life after that.

In Jake's defense, he was the least of that movie's problems.

Honestly he wasn't that bad in TPM. I watched it recently and paid close attention to him. He expresses emotion well in facial expressions and delivers his lines with the right emphasis and tone. The real problem was the dialog, direction and editing. I mean Ewan and Natalie were both meh in the movie and we know they can be great. The only actor that was more than meh was Neeson and he was merely ok.

Couldn't agree more! Poor Jake got saddled with a pretty big burden by GL and a very poorly exectuted, ill-conceived film. It's so very unfortunate that such a young actor was asked to deliver so much with so little and received so much vitriol in return.

I feel sad for him.I remember watching The Phantom Menace. In my opinion
he didn't do anything bad in the movie.
Yeah, you're right. He did the best he could.People bash him but they never thought how it is to be in his place.Wish he's going to be OK.

I don't think the problem is that The Phantom Menace sucked. I think the problem is expecting a ten year old boy to continue growing up normal after everyone in the world knows who he is.

    Childhood celebrity is the problem.

I'm pulling for you, Jake. I hope you get some help and I hope the reporters who plastered your mug shot all over the internet rot in Hell.

Well the fact that people would blame him to his face growing up didn't help. Honestly people, adults and kids, were terrible to him

To make things sound a little worse, back in March he allegedly showed up to his mom's house outside of Indianapolis and assaulted her with no charges being filed due to his diagosis of schizophrenia. According to the local P.D.

This story isn't funny at all.
What happened to Jake after his life was ravaged by TPM, is not funny at all.
He payed twice a double GL's weakness: first, as a filmmaker, delivering an inconsistent plot and severely poor speech lines. Second, as a film promoter, as Jake despite his young age was supposed to be everywhere, everyday to promote the film.
And that wasn't sufficient: he had a hangover to pay more, as other children did harass him at school.

His story is not funny at all.
I agree with all the persons in this thread or in this world, who still continue to support him. He did well, as well as he could at 9 years-old.

I think that the problem is that PEOPLE generally suck and mentally abuse people for living their lives which is what leads to situations like this ...

It's very sad to see Jake fall so hard. As a child actor, being in a setting where he is one of the stars along with well-established ADULT actors is very challenging. And yet, he did really well in TPM. He made corny lines, by any person, seem childlike, naive, and hopeful, just as Lucas intended. And yet he beat his mother, blamed her for his life falling apart, and was diagnosed with schizophrenia several years after constant school bullying and media attention due to mixed reactions toward TPM. Child stars of the 90's might honestly wish they lived in the 2000's, where Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and other shows had kids making shows for kids only. Now, Nickelodeon already had most of it figured out in the 1990's, but it was still more of a premier cartoon channel until the early 2000's. And Jake now is a grumpy and jailed editor and photographer. Imagine if he had some real support. He could be, at worst, like crazed method actor Shia Labeof, who was atrocious at times on Disney Channel, and has a bad record in real life, but is a great actor, willing to take out his teeth for a critically nominated movie like Fury. And if he had that support, but still wanted to quit acting, he could have been like the Sprouse twins, who have both graduated from NYU and are very good nature and humorous adults because of a great environment.

To those that make fun of Jake, just understand he beat 3000 or so kids for the role of Anakin Skywalker, and he delivered one of the best performances in a movie heavily-filled with stars like McGregor and Neeson. And in doing so, he was let down by a bad script and those who didn't understand how caring and hard working he was as a child. If there was a way Star Wars fans could help reshape his life, that's something we should do. Because the thought of Jake only further deteriorating, when he could've made a wonderful transition into a full time actor, and possibly a great one, which he was interested in becoming during the late 1990's, is also our fault as well.
