SPECULATION Won't Luke need a son to continue "Skywalker" surname?

No matter who Rey's father is, wont there need to be a male sire to Luke to continue the Skywalker name? Maybe Rey has a twin brother...

Nah, Rey could just choose to keep the name. I know in the Legends universe Sola kept the name Naberrie because her family name was so recognised. Same could be applied here.

How come? If Luke had sired a child, that child, regardless if it was a boy or a girl, will always be Skywalker because of the parent. And if you are taking about marriage with another person, the child could always choose to keep the name Skywalker (or choose never to get married). Thinking that last name is only passed-down through of a son sounds to me very patriotic and traditional way of thinking. And speaking of children, he could just as well decide to adopt a child, and that child could still be called Skywalker.

Based on everything that's being said, my personal theory is that Rey is Luke's daughter, either biological or adopted, and must likely she has a twin (Hux or Phasma).

Would be fun to find out that Anakin Skywalker had more offspring than Johnny Appleseed (but it's Disney, so NO)

What if Shmi Skywalker had siblings too, or uncles/aunts with cousins etc? ;)

Hux's father was an Imperial officer - well established in the new canon.

Maybe Vader has bionic genetalia and he gets it on with Doctor Aphra. There's definitely some sexual tension there. (darth);):p

Leia is still Skywalker although she has a name of her adopted family - Organa and is married to Han Solo. Note that while we usually talk about Kylo Ren as Ben Solo - that is our naming convention (and not naming convention of everyone in our world), not the naming convention of GFFA. Even if he is Ben Solo, he is still half-Skywalker.

    First of all, Ben's last name is never actually mentioned in TFA. He's just called "Ben." And second, if Rey turns out to be Luke's daughter, and she has a child later on, then that child is a Skywalker, pure and simple. Besides;

-She doesn't have to take on her husband's last name/their child doesn't need to take on his father's last name. Not everyone does that, and the Skywalker name is likely pretty famous. Padme kept her last name, and Leia kept her adopted last name after all.

-Perhaps Rey has a lover later on, but they don't actually marry. So it's not an issue.

-If she ends up hooking up with Finn, then the point is moot because he doesn't have a last name at all.

Rey Skywalker. In the netherlands the children can choose the name of either the father or the mother.

Rey can continue Skywalker last name.

Anakin got his Skywalker name from mother Shmi.

You're applying western earth society naming conventions.
We're talking about a galaxy far far away here. Be creative.

Considering the evil folk are gunning for Skywalkers, I think, in the interest of Personal Safety, Rey should take an alias.

I suggest throwing them off the scent by using the name Rey Binx.
(I mean really, who has ever wanted to kill someone with the name Binx?)

    kylo ren skywalker?
If ren is a title like darth. and kylo is his new name, he could quite viably be kylo ren skywalker. considering his affinity for the darth vader mask and his heritage?

haha, well technically Kylo Ren Organa if they never married?
i ment he would be more likely to adopt the skywalker name due to it's infamy?

Nope only Kylo Ren. Ren is like Darth, Kylo is like Vader, Maul, Sidious ect..
But his real name was Ben.

Same way as Darth Vader is not Darth Vader Skywalker.
