You know, Infinity War does not work if you haven't seen the majority of the MCU. You can't keep pleasing the casuals all the time.

I don’t think you get to be the fourth highest grossing film of all time without also appealing to the ‘normies’ out there, yeah? Plenty of the people contributing to that success certainly weren’t up-to-speed.
In my observation, all the “casual fan” really wants is a well told story. To be properly entertained. However geeky the premise, as long as it’s organically integrated into the plot, that’s all that matters. Stories are about people, not things. When you start to lose sight of that is when you start to lose the broader audience.

I absolutely agree that a writer’s creativity shouldn’t be hampered by the anticipation of how the lowest common denominator might react, but they should also be mindful about how that creativity serves the actual story and not simply the concept itself. Is it ‘necessary’ or is it just ‘cool’? Hopefully, it’s both.

Personally, I feel if JJ wants to tie everything together by incorporating some larger binding mystical element that involves time in some way, then great. But let him come up with his own thing that makes sense within the story HE’S telling. Not some re-architected version of Filoni’s idea. It isn't needed. But that's just me.

Shmi = future Rey. It makes too much sense for it not to be true!
