    Qui Gon would have stood up for Anakin a lot more and not let the jedi council harass Anakin as much, so Anakin wouldn't hate the jedi order as much as he did later on...I don't blame Obi-wan for being on the passive side- he was much younger than most of the other members so it is understandable that he would go along with their wishes.

    While I think Anakin's fall to the dark side was inevitable as Palpatine would have used his feelings for Padme to get to him in some way or the other, Anakin wouldn't see Palpatine as a father figure which happened in the absence of Qui Gon. Palpatine would have had his work cut out for him under the circumstances. (pwned)
