Here is an excerpt from an interview where Emily Blunt is asked about Rian Johnson and Star Wars. http://www.jedinews.co.uk/news/news.aspx?newsID=19948&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

I'm a bit of a fan of Emily Blunt, but more for her romcoms. When she started doing scifi like Looper and Edge of Tomorrow, I initially felt her talents were being misused...

Now that Emily Blunt has 1 degree of separation from Star Wars (ok I know everybody in Hollywood probably has 1 degree of separation from each other), perhaps this whole scifi thing and Emily Blunt might come full circle for me though. Would you cast her in Star Wars?

I think she would bring an interesting dimension to Star Wars. And, like she says, she has handled a bladed weapon before! Perhaps she is the type of multi-dimensional actress that Star Wars needs for that extra edge? (Forgive the pun.)

She’d make an excellent Mara Jade if they ever decided to go that route with a spin-off. But that wouldn’t happen in VIII I guess.

But I thought she was excellent in both Looper and Edge of Tomorrow and did well with action and the hyper-melodrama of the blockbuster type films. I think she’d be great in SW.

If the 1st spin-off is Fett or the Bounty Hunter "Steal the Plans" movie (not that those ideas are mutually exclusive). She could make and interesting Arra Sing. I really liked her in Edge of Tomorrow and Looper.

On that note, I think that Sigourney Weaver is the best choice to go for regarding an elderly Mara Jade. But as for something taking place in the Original Trilogy era, Emily Blunt would be perfect.

I personally don't want Luke hooking up with anyone given the "Jedi do go for attachments" idea. Mara Jade existed before that idea came a long. Given Luke's position a relationship seems like a distraction.

I suppose it could still work. Sean Connery and Catherin Zeta Jones still managed a hook up.

Despite their somewhat high profile names I would definitely cast these gorgeous and talented ladies in SW so long as I felt they fit the role.

Emily Blunt and Eva Green. I think either or both would make AWESOME Sith witches (Night sisters.)

...Which is kind of a major factor in how they were completely screwed over in the first place. A major point in the Prequel Trilogy is that the Jedi weren't perfect, and an important point in the Original Trilogy is that Luke would have to learn to overcome their mistakes.

Which is a great reason to tell the story while he is dealing with the issue. However picking it up 20 years later . . . oh yeah I met this girl once yada yada now I have a son who might be powerful enough to destroy the galaxy seems a waste.

Everyone seems to want a young Mara Jade. Problem is, if they introduce her, they have to keep the canon that she was a child apprentice of the Emperor's while Vader was his Sith Lord apprentice. Meaning that she could at most be like 10 years younger than Luke. Luke is mid-60s now. Even pushing the limit, that means that Mara Jade's actress can be no younger than 45. No I'm not putting myself up for the part! :D But I thought Debra Messing was kinda presumed to be the Mara Jade of choice...

Emily Blunt would be great in the franchise, though. :)

I'd like to see a redo of the shot from A New Hope showing a tie-fighter pilot in the cockpit, (the only difference being this is some kind of ace pilot) then the target (like the Millennium Falcon) jumps to hyperspace. The tie lands back onboard the Star Destroyer hangar and the pilot rips off their helmet and throws it on the ground in frustration and its revealed to be a sweaty Emily Blunt loosing her poodoo.

I hope we get a little personification of pilots or troopers.

This works too. I'd love for her to be a female Mandalorian or bounty hunter.

    Agreed Echo 7!
In fact that is so perfect it needs to be a thing! They can even make that concept mysterious for a while as well.

Shadow Weaver was the only cool thing in She-Ra. Heh
She even looks like a Jawa Goddess
Maybe that's why Jawas look the way they do? Maybe they worship Night Sisters? ;)

I think it would be cool to see Kylo Ren, not quite a Sith, working with a Night Sister that doles out Dark Side lore as he gathers things for her. I'd love to see a hate-hate relationship between two such characters, using each other to accomplish their own goals and forced to work together out of necessity.

Just because the Jedi and Sith were wiped out doesn't mean there aren't Others out there with knowledge and waiting to make their move now that there is a power vacuum. It's an opportunity.

Emily Blunt would be a great choice because she's proven that she can handle sci-fi/action. Plus she could be cast as either "good" or "bad" since she has the range for it. But Eva Green, in my opinion, has become completely typecast as the badass she-villain. I wouldn't want her in Star Wars since sci-fi/fantasy is so over saturated with Eva Greens take on the powerful, seductive, vindictive, manipulative, blah blah evil villainess. Sorry but it seems like she's always the same character she was in her last film. And the one before that. And the one before that. And the.....

Actually, you're completely right about that -- she is typecast as the she-villain. BUT she does it so well . . . :p

Plus you're right in that Blunt has range. I've enjoyed her in everything from Dan in Real Life to Devil Wears Prada to Johnson's Looper. (Yet to see Edge of Tomorrow)

I'm glad you said Devil Wears Prada because aside from Meryl Streep she steals the show. And Edge of Tomorrow may be her best yet. You should check it out A.S.A.P.

I think Blunt would smoke any competition in the joint. We'd love to see her in more than a token role.

On a serious note, I think she would be a great pick for a spin off movie. Even in just ok movies, i.e. the adjustment bureau she elevates the film through her chemistry with her co-workers.
