While we still know very little about the actual premise of the show, we do know that it's supposed to take place 7 years after ROTJ. It does open up a door for younger versions of Luke, Leia and Han to star in the show.

The question is of course, would you like to see them as leads/main characters? Or would you rather have the show focus on completely new, unknown leads, and have Luke, Leia and Han to appear in short cameos only?

Remember, the reason why TCW was so successful was because it focused not only on new characters such as Ahsoka, but put lots of emphasis on established characters like Anakin and Obi-Wan.
In my opinion, I would love for this series to focus on a Force-sensitive teenager and have Luke as the second lead. This would make it very similar to Ahsoka's introduction in TCW. The worst mistake Lucasfilm could make would be to focus only on new characters and have the big three appear in short and useless cameos.

I think having them appear in small cameos would be ideal. Since there is already some canon content that is out that touches on what they were doing after the events of RotJ I think they have to address them to a certain degree, but I would want the show to primarily focus on developing new characters.

i'm happy with a mix. Solo taught me i have sufficient tolerance for recasting and i do want to see what they're up to in this era.
but i'm also okay with them not being the total focus. maybe we sorta follow Luke and just now and then see Han and Leia.
or maybe Lando is a main character, who connects will his old pals now and then but has new adventures with the new cast peoples.

or! i want this to be about Sloane and Brendol and the Outer Regions. bring it on! : D

the only thing for i really don't want this to be about, is Ben.
yeah, i just said that. me. XD

Let new characters take central stage in this one. If it's OT3 again, it would limit creativity, take any tension away (we know where they'll end up) and would also make a lot of people angry again due to casting, portrayal and expectation. So just let the past die and leave the OT3 to cameos.

We're probably already getting new characters take central stage in the post-ROTJ era with the Resistance animated series.

Even if the big three shouldn't appear as main leads, having them appear in only small cameos would be a huge waste. Why not have certain episodes revolve around the big three?

How do you propose to do that? With CGI or recasting?

If its just for certain episodes, I don't see why they couldn't use de-aging technology on Mark Hamill, for example. However, I think recasting would be the best idea. If it's done the right way.

I don't want to see them in this. I for my part liked the main cast of R1 for example, same goes for Ahsoka and Qi'ra and I'm quite content that they can again come up with new likable characters, so no re-cast needed.

Either they go all in or they don't use them at all. I don't like this cameo stuff. If this series relies on old characters to be a success, then it's not worth it after all. Create new characters with interesting characteristics.

The reason Ahsoka worked was because she was Anakin's padawan. The reason Qi'Ra worked was because she was Han's love interest. I'll give you the R1 cast though, however R1 as a whole was built around cameos by characters like Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, Darth Vader and Tarkin.

They tried cgi in R1 and recasting in Solo. It was fine by me, but apparently a lot of "fans" didn't like that.

Ahsoka went through a ton of character development in both the Clone Wars and Rebels (plus the book, but I haven't read that yet). Qi'ra was a well-designed love interest for Han, or she wouldn't have worked. In R1 most of the cameos were fan-service. OT3 in the new show could (Bestshould) be this kind of fanservice cameos as well.

I would really love to see more Luke before he went all hermit on us though but I agree on the whole cameo thing. They don't even have to de-age him that much judging by how he looked on Crait.

Just slap some make up on him à la Ego in GotG 2 and you're golden.

I've seen no complaints from any fans about Tarkin in R1, the complaints were from various news magazines whom thought it was "morally wrong to resurrect a dead actor". But those news magazines were not fans, they were just looking for a way to get headlines. If they had done their research, they would've known that Peter Cushing's estate and family members gave their OK to his likeness being used. When it comes to Leia, her appearance was so brief you almost couldn't make anything out of it. I don't think they put the same effort in that CGI as with Tarkin.

I think many fans have a problem with recasting Han Solo in particular (not me), but not other characters. I think it's because they think Harrison Ford is Han Solo, but when it comes to recasting Luke or Leia I think they are more have no problems with it.

Not saying Ahsoka isn't a good character on her own. If she was a terribly written character it wouldn't have mattered if she was Anakin's padawan. I'm just saying that her introduction worked and was propelled into fandom quickly because of this.

I'm one of those people. I've lived through Rogue One and a weird 2009 chocolate commercial with Audrey Hepburn in it and to be honest, I'm not really sure about resurrecting more dead actors through motion capture. This phenomenon is in a very weird moral and legal grey area as we're essentially asking dead people for their likeness and it's pretty hard to get a response from a person that's, you know, dead. For me this feels iffy.

i agree. and it didn't even absolutely need to be Tarkin either.
the fact that it was purely for fan service also makes me feel squicky about it.

That Audrey Hepburn thing convinced me, that it can be done with cgi, if necessary. Still, I'd rather they didn't make the show about Han, Luke and Leia. The franchise desperately needs to move away from them.

That commercial from 2015? That one was done really masterfully. But to be fair, she didn't have a "speech role"

Yeah, that one. The technology is good enough for a cameo, but will probably be to expensive to make several 40+ minute episodes with, say, young Carrie Fisher. For now at least. As for the voice, they can have a similar one and people would hardly notice.

I don't think they would have decided to make a real-life series if they want to use the OT. The OT is more likely to return in Star Wars: Resistance.
