X-Men Film Franchise

What should happen to the X-Men Cinematic Universe?

  1. Marvel should take back the rights and do the characters justice!

    63.2%
  2. Just reboot the whole thing with new producers at Fox. Mutants wouldn't fit into the MCU anyway.

    10.5%
  3. Get a new production team but don't reboot. A few of those films were great!

    10.5%
  4. Focus on single character films like Deadpool or Wolverine then do team-up films like the MCU does.

    5.3%
  5. Have Marvel help out but keep them separate from the MCU.

    5.3%
  6. MOAR DEADPOOL!! MOAR!! MOAR!!

Knowing LAX's LGBT poulation.. maybe. LoL
In all seriousness, no, but it would still be just as disturbing. I could go into a deep "anal-ysis" of the act of throttling another human.. but that bore everyone. Instead, I'll just say this. I've never seen LFL use the throttling scene from ANH to sell Star Wars to anyone. And that scene involves two males. You feared Darth Vader after watching this. I'm sure dark horse put a recreation of it on the cover of comic book a few times.. but that small ad sits in a comic shop targeting a niche audience. It's not broad spectrum like a billboard. And if they were to show Vader throttling a male rebel as billboard for Rogue One you would not have to deal with 3rd wave feminism but you would incur the backlash of every FRC type SJW-right group screaming that "Star Wars isn't for kids anymore."

At the same time I don't think that anyone should perceieve it as "Sexual" because this is FAKE and is a popcorn movie ... sort of like recreating the same type of scenes with your action figures when you're a kid

If you put a man and a woman in a picture it will have sexual interpretation. It's visual vocabulary. It can't be avoided. And, honestly, how many times did you pretend with your GI Joe's that Lady J was getting throttled by Destro? How many times did you pretend Destro was throttling any of your GI Joes?

I think that it should be chalked up to simple comic book violence.

I had to go through a jungle to find those pics but I found them. Don't bother with the link, go directly to the Just Jared website; they got a Republishing ban on the photos. Damn she's young, like X2 shadowcat young. Patrick Stewart with a slight beard; Jackman with short-med length beard and, conspicuously absent, hair flares.
Unrelated note: OMG some psycho murdered Christie Grimmie on stage! :eek:Where the hell was her security detail!?

hmmm...pessimistic for stating a fact that no one expected her to need one because she wasn't a big star in comparison to others and I get an off topic for commenting on someone else saying something off-topic -- ok. But yeah: after my 3rd and 4th viewings I can't seem to get on board with this movie for some reason...seems too forced in my opinion and definitely not as story-heavy as X2-Xmen United but it's visuals are amazing

Well, yes, it is always good to stay on topic. Still..:(
So I did have another observation to make about this movie.. It may be something, it may be nothing...
Jean Grey, in this film, is a 'Max Landis' Mary Sue. I sort of picked up on this my first viewing.. And paid close attention to her scenes in my second viewing. Now obviously much of her power set is true to source, but I'm actually talking about other nuances. Jean Grey is never in any danger through the whole movie; her powers either let her skirt almost every danger she encounters or let's her have an active role in her own rescue. And the only time she can't use her powers.. no negative consequences.
So, I'm watching this and thinking to myself: Rey is saved outright by Finn twice, makes a really stupid decision that nearly get her friends killed, Force locked by Ren and forced to fighting his whole force mind probe thing, and then needs to be rescued by Chewbacca before the space ball blows up. And YT is full of videos on how Rey is a Mary Sue.
So surely, there's gonna be a $#!&ton of YT videos on how Bryan Singer made Jean Grey a Mary Sue, right? ..Right??

    # of Jean Grey is a Mary Sue videos on YouTube: 0

The same people who went Ape$#!& over Rey could not arouse themselves to make one video over this! Oh my lulz!!
But do you know what female character Bazzf, on of the guys I'm talking about, did make a video on?
    Three guesses:

Now that deserves a big Quicksilver "WOW!":p

Seriously? This Mary Sue crap has to stop. It's ruining the fun and interest in these characters that ultimately takes most of everyone out of their enjoyment of the film itself. If you at least can enjoy the films and its characters for what and how they were written and portrayed (with some improvising by the actors/actresses) then great. Despite the negatively these films have gotten, I'm not going to let those negative feelings resurface again through me because I still love X-Men - I always have and even though the films aren't going to be mint perfect to the T, they won't ever be like that for as long as they're being adapted to the big screen. Take it or leave it, its anyone's choice. Just saying.

If it's any consolidation, I'm totally with you. I did not bring it up to demand videos be made regarding Jean Grey. On the contrary, I thought Jean was one of the more effectively used characters in this film. Rather, I brought it up to highlight the hypocrisy and faux moral outrage of the individuals that do push that definition onto female characters. They do it for their own profit. Subs subs subs. Ten cents a sub, every month. And they don't see a blatantly obvious example of their 'agenda'.. because there's no money to be made on one of the most powerful yet tribulated Marvel Heroines ever given, as they would likely describe it, a cake-walk in her first movie in 10 years.
But there is money to be made by one Star Wars character who has spoken 12 words, shot a blaster once, and has no force potential whatsoever.
I'm just demonstrating their obsurdity by being obsurd myself.

Sophie Turner's Jean Grey felt more like Sophie Turner playing Sansa Stark/Lannister/Bolton playing Jean Grey than Sophie Turner playing Famke Janssen's Jean Grey - The Wonder Years Edition. But I guess I'm saying that because she and the other new-old X-Men really didn't get the attention they needed in this kind of a movie.

I feel like XMA ran into the exact same problems that XMTLS did - both movies introduced two major story arcs that could each warrant their own film (formation of the classic team and an Apocalypse story for the former, and the Mutant Cure and Dark Phoenix stories for the latter), and neither story reaches its full potential because both arcs ultimately trample on each other.

Well, kinberg is on record saying for X3 the studio demanded the 'cure' plot.
As for this one, I don't think the team formation plot is the issue but rather how they went about doing it. Its seems like they were going to have Mystique take over and lead everyone against apocalypse.. then it feels like the studio steps in and demands the alkali lake subplot to get wolverine in the film. They really don't need the plane; nightcrawler can group bamf and even transcontinental bamf. And they certainly don't need the "flight suits".
That said, I've been thinking the past week that this may not be studio intervention but rather Singer having a limited understanding of X-Men characters. The only two villains that play well in this movie IMHO are Magneto, and Stryker.. the two villains he used 15 years ago. Now he's pushing a Mystique movie. I'm noticing repetitive thinking here.

Makes sense. I'm not a comic fan myself, all I know from X-Men comes from the movies, and though I like the characters and such, and I enjoyed the movie, obviously I see all the tiny details. Some friends were asking me which movie did I like most, if Civil War or XMA, and it is a hard choice because I do care about the mutants - especially Wolverine lol - but if you ask me from a holistic perspective, talking about plot, storyline, directing, the Russo brothers got the edge. Obviously I enjoyed them way more than BvS but you can see the "sewing patterns" on XMA compared to Civil War.

And yes, back then I enjoyed X3 but then afterwards I noticed some stuff didn't click lol.
