X-Men Film Franchise

What should happen to the X-Men Cinematic Universe?

  1. Marvel should take back the rights and do the characters justice!

    63.2%
  2. Just reboot the whole thing with new producers at Fox. Mutants wouldn't fit into the MCU anyway.

    10.5%
  3. Get a new production team but don't reboot. A few of those films were great!

    10.5%
  4. Focus on single character films like Deadpool or Wolverine then do team-up films like the MCU does.

    5.3%
  5. Have Marvel help out but keep them separate from the MCU.

    5.3%
  6. MOAR DEADPOOL!! MOAR!! MOAR!!

That's excellent. It totally deserves every penny it gets. It will be difficult this month going forward I expect due to Kong and Beauty and the Beast.

    My X-Men list
Logan & DOFP (I put them both up high, can't decide which should be top. Both excellent)
    Deadpool
    X-Men
    X2
    First Class
    Apocalypse
    The Wolverine
    The Last Stand
    Origins

I have also thought it would be helpful to have a timeline to help see where Logan could potentially fit.

    Original timeline
Origins (Birth, Mutant genes appears, civil war, WW1, Vietnam War)
    Getting adamantium claws
    X-Men
    X2
    The Last Stand
    The Wolverine
    DOFP (Sentinels) 2023

    DOFP timeline
Origins (Birth, Mutant genes appears, civil war, WW1, Vietnam War)
    First Class
    DOFP
    Getting adamantium claws
    Apocalypse
    X-Men
    Deadpool
    DOFP (alternate future) 2023

    Logan timeline
Origins (Birth, Mutant genes appears, civil war, WW1, Vietnam War)
    First class
    Getting adamantium claws
    X-Men
References- Statue of Liberty, cage fighting
No mutants born from 2004 onwards, 25 years
    X2
    The Last Stand
    The Wolverine (2014)
Katana appears in background of hideout, could be the same one given to Logan by Yashida.
    Westchester incident happened
    Logan (2029)

If you can think of anything to change/add mention it.

Just noticed I made a major error by including X2 and TLS. After a bit of work I have posted a new timeline which makes more sense.
It is based on speculation and on circumstantial evidence.

There are very small SPOILERS on the image posted.

X2 does not exist as Jean Grey is alive in alternate 2023. Therefore nor does TLS, as Cyclops and Charles are both alive in 2023.
The Wolverine events which happen in 2013 did not happen but the getting the sword in the past did.

I caught a 10:20 screening of this last night.. very private; 3 people in the theatre.. I'm starting to like having the theatre all to myself.

I'm speechless. What a great film! Worthy of it's accolades.. You actually wonder as your watching this if 16 years of crap was worth it just to set up this movie!?
    Just.. wow, just..
I havent read any news articles other than a briefly glancing at the cash haul.. so this my be old hat already.. but I saw in this an adaptation of Children of Men.. with some elements of Looper added in and an overall feel of Siccario.
Keeping this film under wraps really pays off in the homestead scene. Because up to this point you're still trapped in Singer's mindset thinking X-23 is just cardboard. And she's looking at that screen with the reavers coming in.. and Kulishov, you brilliant comrade, you.. you can see ever so slightly in that blank stare..
And then this film does just about everything you can possibly do with a child actor.
I know we talk alot on the interwebz about "Marvel Formula". I think now with the past two winter offerings from 20th century Fox we now see the "Deapool Formula".. intimates character ensemble, strong adherence to theme, witty banter, no attempts to set up other films, and grounded in a sense of reality. It ain't the "tracking shot".. but it's just as good in it's own way.:D
BTW I'm still suspicious that 94% from our vaunted critics came from Logan's tirade over comic books (That or Logans "brokeback" scene with Caliban). Dont think your off the hook for SS yet, critic!

I just think it's sad that after saving mutants from extinction from giant killer robots, they're still driven to extinction by spiked corn syrup. :p

Haha. Well I made it based on information that's available, trying to find ways to fit Logan in. I believe I have found a perfect way, apart from I keep thinking of new ones.

A very nice tribute to the end of the character. Mangold says he wanted to make this his best movie. I believe he has absolutely succeeded.

Thanks for reposting this review. I finally watched it with fends last weekend & I was rather worried about watching it due to a lot of bad reviews I had heard. However I actually quire enjoyed it a's a fun popcorn film (much more enjoyable then BvS). Magnetosphere arc was great that Quicksilver scene at the mason was fantastic plus great song to go with it. Also as GOT fan watching Sophie Turner unless hell was quite satisfing plus her into to Scott was great plus her obvious rather lonely existence st the school was very well portraied.

Totally believe it. I walked away kinda liking it the second time. I learned a lot about going into a movie with preconceived notions about what a film should look like. I think I now know why people could punch a wall walking out of TFA.. because when I said I was taking stock, I was actually shaking with a swirl of rage and greif.. 16 years no Cable kept popping up and I was just thinking to myself.. what squander. I literally spent the next week watching the cartoon; I was in a funk that I didn't really come to terms with until I watched the Honest Trailer for the cartoon. Then I was able to put that behind, and I watched it again. I also picked up a bit more on the nuance on the second try. That doesn't negate anything I posted in my review; I only wish I had time to add in a few more things..
I think if this movie was made back in 2003-2004 people would have liked it more, but X:A came after The Dark Knight and Avengers, and it failed to capture the shock value of BvS nor the emotional spectacle of Civil War. It really felt bland in the wake of those films. Singer just can't reach that bar anymore.
That said, Fox continued it's overall streak in this franchise of good casting. Outside of JLAW the acting was great. On second look the 'splash fight' didn't look as bad as it did the first time.

Logan really doesn't hold up under scrutiny sadly.

It's the X-Men franchises TFA without the upside.

You watch it and it's 100% about Jackman/Stewart.

    Spoiler time:

The plot was trash. It was X2/X3/DOFP all over again. For all the crap TFA gets for re-hashing ANH, Logan is the FOURTH X movie to use this same basic plot that is only driven by Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart acting their behinds off. Violence and language at some point just become a crutch for the lack of plot. X24 is dumb. This would be like if Kylo turned out to be a legit young Han Solo clone and kills real Han Solo AND kills Luke. Dumb. Also, X-2 basically did that already.

It's still good. And it's a top X film for sure. But it's also not the greatest thing ever
