I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but I couldn't find anything on it anywhere. After looking through some of the leaked set pictures (assuming it's real), there's a diagram of "Pirate's Cove" showing some X-Wings parked on what they have labeled as the "pier". At the top of this sheet you can see a simplified layout with two shapes that appear to be an X-Wing and a Y-Wing with a circle around them. To the right you can see an arrangement of these circles with lines which appear to be representing the length of the X-Wing and Y-wings. There are 5 Y-wing circles and 3 X-Wing circles.

(it's worth mentioning that this set plan is indicated to be for discussion only in the bottom left corner)

I just wanted to bring this up because we haven't seen any Y-Wings yet - not in the leaked Greenham Common set pictures, concept art, or trailers. The Y-wings have played such a crucial part in both the prequel and original trilogy eras and they were quite old by ROTJ. They remind me of the A-10 Warthog, which is still in service today. I'm curious to know if there will be new Y-Wings in TFA or if they might even use the same ones from the original trilogy - and if so, what roll will they play? As we haven't seen them yet in any official footage, if they are to be included, perhaps there's an important attack/bombing run scene in the movie that we haven't been exposed to yet.

    I always loved these ships!

At the very top it says "Episode IV" so I think this was being used as a reference for the scale of the set. It was a blueprint of the rebel base from ANH.

Wow! I totally missed that. So the rebel base from ANH was called Pirate's Cove?

I hope so, it would be great to have other ships besides the X wing in TFA.

I love the Y-Wings too. I was thinking about it and in each OT movie they introduced a new rebel ship; EpIV: X-Wing and Y-Wing, EpV: Snow Speeder, and EpVI: A-Wing. I'd love to see X and Y-Wings in TFA but i hope they throw something new at us as well!

The B-wings were the coolest looking and most under-utilized. It would be cool to see Poe pilot one. Maybe in VIII...

I get the vibe that Poe is more like a fighter pilot, I see him involved in some dogfights and not piloting a bomber.

I agree with both statements, but they could have a scene where Poe has to grab the nearest ship and high tail it out of wherever he is. What does he find but a rundown B-Wing haha. It's good to dream right?

That would be awesome! I hate that we never got to see more of the B-Wings...

I guess the A-Wing and B-Wing were pretty new during ROTJ right? Maybe there will still be a few in service! :D

Why would Poe who is clearly a fighter pilot like Luke end up with the falcon who is already being flown by Rey and is probably her father's ship?

    Umm well several reasons.

No one has proof that Rey flies the ship. They assume she flies the ship. Poe might be the pilot. There is a gap in what Poe is doing in the 2nd part of the 1st act.

Second they have been implying all a long that Poe will be the new Han and back in November there was a lot of talk about him ending up in the falcon.

Poe is the new BEST pilot in the galaxy Luke was awesome at many things but Han was THE pilot.

I hope most of the fighters and capital ships of the OT are still in service. Even though I liked the prequels I liked the space battles in the OT so much more. Maybe I'm biased after so many hours playing the x-wing and tie fighter series.

Although I think it's most probably Rey you have a point in that it could actually be Poe the one flying the falcon in the teaser.
I agree that Poe is going to be the most similar to Han of the new characters but this does not mean he will be so similar to Han in all regards, and I think him piloting an x-wing instead of the falcon will be an important distinction. I also think it's highly improbable that Poe is going to be the pilot of all the ships, we already have a lot of pics and concept art of him in rebel pilot uniform and with different x-wings, what are the others going to fly.
I completely disagree on Han being THE pilot, while he was certainly pretty good for a normal person, he had a lot of tricks and he probably would be a better pilot of the falcon due to his knowledge of the ship, I think Luke is clearly THE better pilot for no other reason than his connection to the force. I might even consider Lando to be a better falcon pilot than Han, he clearly did an incredible job during the battle of Endor. Actually now that I think more about it, thank god Lando was there, he clearly performed the role of admiral much better than Ackbar.

Without Admiral Ackbar no one would have know that "Its a trap" though!

Y wing craft were newer & better than the older X wing series in the Star Wars EU.
Luke, at first was going to be in a Rebel squad of Y wing fighters but the ILM crew & set guys had X wing stuff up first so Lucas switched the script/scenes then made Luke & R2D2 X wing squad members. (x-wing)
I like the Y wings too. Leia & C3PO used Y wings often in the 1980s era Marvel Comics.
The A wings just looked cheap & old. The B wing series seemed aerodynamic & slick but not as impressive as the Y wing fighters.

    So your anti-calimari. Speciesist ;)

I think the others will be able to pilot ships from time to time I just think that Poe will get the Falcon. I know its an older rumor and it complicates the piecing together of things that MSW and others are trying to make sense of I just see Poe as the one who gets the ship or at least will be its pilot. I think that the heroes in TFA will be very much against all flags. There are three factions the Resistance, the 1st Order and the Republic the 1st Order has a super weapon as does one of the other factions so I have a feeling that the heroes will have enemies from at least 2 camps. So if the heroes are a small Resistance cell them all being on one ship makes sense.

Well I guess it depends on what part of the EU we are using.
According to the x-wing and tie fighter simulator games the ywing was not better than the xwing, it just filled a different role, the ywing was a bomber type it carried more torpedoes and had ion cannons but it had less laser cannons was slower and less maneuverable than the xwing.
The bwing was a newer bomber type craft and if I remember correctly it was better than the ywing in every way.
The awing was the air superiority fighter it was the fastest and most maneuverable and carried concussion missiles which were mostly for targeting other fighters.
The xwing was the mult-purpose aircraft it could fill both roles but was not as good at any.

I'm not up on all the specs and charts of the rebel fleet. If the OT space ships went A-Z then the Y wing would be newer I guess, unless no Z craft was made & the space fighters reverted to the A wing series.
