    Motion capture is not CGI.
Computer generated imaging is exactly that : no motion capture, no physical component.

There is a digital component of course, but it's not pure CGI.

Motion capture is full pure CGI.

Real person controls FULL CGI character as a puppet.

That is motion capture tehnology. Character you see on screen is FULL CGI ( Computer-generated imagery ).

I don't think Yoda is in the film. I think if he is in the film, it's Yoda and Luke, near the end (possibly even first ever post-credit scene).

Luke: That girl is our last hope.
    Yoda: No, there is another.

...that's it. That's all the Yoda we get. :)

It will be a puppet, other than space fights and a few scenic additions sprinkled in, there's actually much less CGI in this film than in the prequels.

My totally random, utterly uninformed guess.

Trailer is full of CGI. CGI is basicly in every scene of the trailer. And we have at least two CGI charaters already confirmed in the movie.

I think I could really support that. Imagine, that The Force has left Luke, or at elast he feels like it has and ahs stopped using it...and then he is drawn to it reluctantly, but then he gets a lesson from Yoda/Obi-Wan Kenobi and is able to go into action once again...similar to Spiderman 2.

Gnah! Of course. You are right, but this Yoda up there is not Motion Capture.
The reason for Motion Capture is to circumvent that exact problem I described above, by having a real person as standing. Pure CGI is no person involved, no actual, substantial, real life person or other object that fills this space.

Can someone just now please nod as if they understand what I am saying and perhaps translate to clear proper English?

    Which Yoda? PT or OT.
Motion capture CGI is a new tehnology. It was not used during PT filming.
Yoda in PT was not mocap.

That is why CGI is now even better. Now they have motion capture tehnology.
And shadows and textures are evolved.

Nothing can beat good motion capture CGI character.

Bring back? What part of SW was he ever in? And as for CGI vs. Mo-Cap, Mo-Cap has been around for AT LEAST a full decade...I think the first HUGE film that Mo-Cap was used for was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, for Davy Jones and his crew, all the way back in 2006.

I'd only support it if it's a puppet. I am not a CGI hater like a lot of people here, and characters created to be CGI don't bothe rme, but I just marathoned the movies and taking characters that started as puppets and CGI'ing them as in the case of Yoda and Jabba was really jarring.

I believe the OP was referring to the fact that Lithgow voiced Yoda in the ESB and ROJ radio adaptations.

I think Frank Oz as a mocap Yoda would be amazing. He may be old, but he could imitate him so well since he already knew how to control the puppet so well (Episodes I, V-VI).

    We have Yadlle.
Only other member of Yoda specie ever seen in movies.

And we know nothing about her ( who knows maybe she is relative of Yoda ).
Also we do not know what happen to her after TPM events.

    I like how Yadlle looks.
She is similar enough to Yoda to be a same specie. But different enough to be different individual and not rip-off.

    Also she looks young.

In my opinion she looks nothing like that horrible puppet Yoda from TPM.

She looks the same. I think they also used the same material for both characters.

I do not see any similarity. Yadlle is cute, that puppet Yoda is creepy.

I'am glad that it is replaced with CGI Yoda.
