SPECULATION Yoda's role in Episode 8?

    There are some strong rumors that Yoda will make an appearance in Star Wars Episode VIII.

    It is not yet clear for me, and maybe that is the fact that Force ghosts were only shown and explored in only 2 of the 7 Star Wars episodes, what is a Force Ghost and what's its purpose.

    - Does it only interacts with the mind of a Force sensitive individual?
    - Does it retain its identity or is it the manifestation of The Force itself that uses familiar faces to interact with the living?
    - If in the Prequels, Jedi masters heard voices of dead Jedi, and in the OT, Luke was able to SEE dead people... will it upgrade in the ST to a point where The Force itself can physically interact with the living (move objects, fight...ect)?

    Yoda in Episode 8 is a mystery to me.

    If Luke was seclusive for so many years as a fallen Jedi Master...did he completely lost contact with the ghosts or they were with him all along?

    Was Yoda there all along when he built his Academy and was betrayed by Ben?

    Will THE FORCE manifest itself to Luke using Yoda to convince him to have faith in himself to give it a second shot in rebuilding what was destroyed (with Rey)?

    So, is Yoda's Force Ghost what will convince Luke to train Rey?

    And one question remains... from my previous question "Does a Force Ghost retain its identty"... from the only real dialogue between a living being and a ghost (Empire Strikes Back), could it just be the PROJECTION of what Luke thinks instead of what Ben or Yoda (even maybe Anakin) would channel to Luke?

    I think that they keep their identities through the Force but they lose their physical abilities. I think they can be seen and heard but can't physically interact. I think in VIII Yoda will be the one to convince Luke to train Rey assuming he will be resistant to training her at first. I also think he might play a part in informing the characters and is about Rey's lineage

    If you haven't seen it I highly recommend the Yoda/Force Ghost arc at the end of the Clone Wars series. Force Ghosts were also a bit in the prequels. Qui-Gon can be heard yelling "no" when Anakin mows down the sand people and Yoda mentions it at the end of Revenge of the Sith.

    I'm not sure if Yoda will turn up in episode VIII, and if he does, I feel like it will only be a voice (e.g. Ben Kenobi on Dagobah in episode V). I think he will tell Luke something similar to what Ben told him, but about training Rey this time. Luke may be hesitant as he has already failed training force sensitive beings once before, and Yoda may be that motivation he needs to get 'back on the horse' so to speak.

    Frank Oz was at Pinewood during filming of VIII and MSW states sources have told them that a Yoda puppet was created so I think there is a good chance we may see him.

    Oh I didn't know that - Fair enough then. I'm excited to see him in VIII! Would be great to see such an iconic character back on the big screen!

    I think it is possible because there was a rumour before TFA ever came out that Yoda was going to show up at the end of VII. So I'm going to guess he will be in VIII.

    I'm gonna say force ghost, to help Rey deal with whatever the big (ESB) twist is gonna be. And if MSW are saying they hear about a puppet, I'm gonna say that it used as a place holder for the actors, and it will be replaced with force ghost CGI.
