Let's just have a bit of fun. Say that Kathleen Kennedy decides to step down as head of Lucasfilm and - after seeing your passion via interactions on this forum - has picked you as her successor for the company.

Where do you see the franchise heading? What things would you put into production or fast-track? What are your next steps? Where do you lead the franchise? What would YOU do?

(Please don't bash on Kathleen during this thread. This is just supposed to be a bit of fun discussion.)

Ok, i am the head of lucasfilm. First, i will green light a r rated star wars horror movie about commando droids on a starliner. Then, i would only make old republic stuff for the next 100 years. Then i would do a sequel to the holiday special, and be fired.

I would release a time line of confirmed and future projects (like marvel did) and stop with the smoke and mirrors.

I would announce that the sequels are here to stay with no planned changes and will always be canon or reboots.

The preqels will never get rebooted

I would confirm that Rian Johnson will still have his trilogy.

Tell Filoni to kill off Ashoka and find a new pet.

License out star wars for any game developers to create a star wars game but before getting the green light, must work with existing stories.

Lastly, if any director says "im not allowed to be on the set" they will be fired on the spot.

I would stop making action movies and just start doing in-universe documentaries about desert planets. We’ve gotten a FEW desert planets in the new Star Wars productions but not nearly enough if you ask me, hence why we need a few movies specifically about these environments.

    upload_2020-8-23_14-50-24.jpeg

Just, look at this. There is so much creative potential for films shot in places just like this.

I can’t wait for you all to see our movies all about the underutilized sand planets of Tatooine, Geonosis, Tatooine again, Arvala-7, Jakku, Tatooine again, Pasaana, Savareen, Jedha, Mandalore (the barren landscape, not the actually interesting cities located there) Tatooine, Tatooine, and a full on Disney+ series about, you guessed it, Tatooine!

I have 3 ideas for trilogies, each set in a different timeline. Funny enough, I've actually written one of the 120 page screenplays :)

I've got an idea for a standalone movie set in the Imperial Age.

    "Lost Stars" standalone movie.

Animated Show by the Samurai Jack team. Telling the story of Luke and Ben Solo between Episodes 6 and 7.

A new definitive edition of the original trilogy that takes out some of the dumb CGI stuff that was added. Also includes the theatrical and re-released cuts.

A remastered edition of the Prequel Trilogy with some cleaned up CGI, slightly reduced Jar Jar lines and political talk.

End the exclusive Star Wars license with EA. You can still use them, but work with a variety of studios. I'd call Rockstar first :)

I've been thinking lately of a TV show that will never happen but that _I_ would've liked very, very much to see. Basically, it would follow the history of the Galactic Civil war, mainly from a Rebel military side of things, but possibly with other side-stories as well. Each season would have perhaps 10 episodes and cover around 1 year of history.

1st Season -- 0 ABY: Starts shortly after ANH and follows the growth of the Rebel Alliance following the three critical historic events taking place in ANY, namely the dissolution of the Imperial Senate, the destruction of Alderaan, and the defeat of the Death Star. We follow the evacuation of Yavin 4 and establishing of new temporary bases, and also the political and diplomatic arena which is thrown into chaos.

2nd Season -- 1 ABY: Emboldened by their early successes and outpouring of political support following the destruction of Alderaan & the Death Star, the Rebel Alliance launch their Mid Rim Offensive. Things go well for a while, before the Empire finds their footing and turn the tide on every front.

3rd Season -- 2 ABY: The Mid Rim Offensive is turning and the Rebellion is under severe pressure. This season's main arc focuses on the search for a new permanent base from which the Rebellion can organize their efforts, ultimately leading us to Hoth.

4th Season -- 3 ABY: The Mid Rim Offensive is now turning into the Mid Rim Retreat. Meanwhile, Echo base is under construction and finally, towards the end of the season, the the first core section of the Rebellion finally moves in... and then the season tailends into TESB.

5th Season -- 4 ABY: The Rebellion is shattered with forces spread in retreat all over the galaxy, and the Empire chases the Rebels everywhere. Slowly, spies, diplomats and politicians manage to organize some of the vast support existing in the galaxy, and the Alliance fleet begins mustering at Sullust. Meanwhile, spies run decoys and contuse Imperial intelligence, and then they learn about the Second Death Star and the Emperor's presence there. Tailending RotJ.

6th Season -- 5 ABY: The Empire lies broken and beaten; the Rebellion has won! But the Remnant Empire quickly mobalizes in the Outer Rim. A desperate Empire launch several insane attacks on the free worlds, and everything cumulates with the Battle of Jakku.

The story would be told primarily from the perspective of new characters (including possibly Cara Dune), showcasing alternative sides of the civil war that we don't see in the movies, painting a broad-strokes picture of the war as contect for the films. I would absolutely LOVE such a show, a sort of Band of Brothers (or whatever) retelling of the galactic conflict happening in the background of the OT movies :) We would see more of the organizational and political sides of things, and follow individual destinies not directly tied up to Luke & Co.

So yeah, that's what I'd like to do, a GoT meets Band of Brothers multi-season coverage of the Galactic Civil War.

Edit; Also, assuming Disney want's their park to make more money, I would seriously consider shooting at least one key scene of... the Cassian show or something, at the Black Spire Outpost set/park location.

I don't think I've posted my own ideas here yet! Well, let's correct that.

First, I would outline Star Wars' next steps. The first step in this plan would be announcing the Triptych of Revan - a series of movies, television shows, and cartoons that would work together weave an epic journey across generations while paving the way for the future.

Act 1 would consist of a Knights of the Old Republic television show, dedicated to covering the saga of the Old Republic. I would have to warn audiences that, due to the non-canonical nature of SWTOR, some elements of it will be taken, and the timeline condensed (Satele Shan would be changed to the daughter of Revan and Bastila, but that wouldn't be announced at the event).

Act 2 would consist of an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie trilogy. All movies would contain a flashback portion while interweaving a current storyline. Like Arrow or The Stormlight Archive.
Kenobi: Hero of the Old Republic - This movie would cover Obi Wan as he struggles to adapt to his new reality on Tatooine and learns to help out some native settlers in the present. In the past, Kenobi finds himself torn between his duty and desire defending the future duchess of Mandalore. The present events are based off of John Jackson Miller's Kenobi, so fans can read that if they want an idea of what to look forward to in the first installment. (The style of this is a mix between Samurai/Wuxia romance* in the past and western in the future.)

Kenobi: Revenant of the Old Republic - In the sequel, enemies our exile made in the first movie have decided to strike a settlement near Kenobi, and end up kidnapping youths to sell into slavery, including one Luke Skywalker. Meanwhile in space, a similar tragedy has struck the Organa royal family. Bail begs for Obi-Wan's help, and the Jedi obliges, finding a few allies along the way.** In the past, the clone wars rage on. Once again, Kenobi is sent on a diplomatic mission to Mandalore, a place he hasn't seen in over ten years. But the Duchess is no longer the girl she was, and Kenobi is no longer the same, foolhardy apprentice. The flashbacks in this movie are a live action retelling of TCW episode 2.12, "The Mandalore Plot." (The tone for this movie is political thriller/intrigue in the past and a samurai revenge tale in the present.)

Kenobi: Knight of the Old Republic - As Obi-Wan faces the stunning revelations of the previous movie, he must also grapple with his own mortality, faults, and regrets.*** Bail, fearing that his secret mission has failed, reaches out to the Empire to help. Ever so generous, the Emperor sends his mysterious vassal, Darth Vader, to assist help the ambassador. Meanwhile, Maul is on the cusp of victory, but a formidable enemy and the ever-present fear of betrayal haunt this ghost at every turn. In the past, Kenobi receives a desperate plea for help from Satine. (This would be the live action adaptation of TCW 5.16, "The Lawless.")

Please note that the synopses for these movies wouldn't be given out at the event, only the titles.

Act 3 of the Triptych of Revan would consist of the "epilogue" to the Sequel Trilogy, an animated show called Star Wars: Revelation. This show would cover the journey of a mysterious Jedi named Tavi as she tries to navigate a new world after waking up decades past her last memories. Nothing is as it seems, however, and the wheels that move this story don't always have the best intentions. This show would explore deeper secrets in the Star Wars mythos while also touching upon some of our favorite ST characters...and in doing so probably retcon some of the choices made in TLJ and TROS. Nothing major, but enough to satisfy me, the new head of Lucasfilm! :p:D(duel)

    However, that's not all!

Coming soon is a new Star Wars live action show! This show would cover the ties that bind us together, and how easy it is for those we love to turn into those we deem worthy of our hatred.
In this new show, we explore the dual journeys of two friends, one stormtrooper, the other rebel soldier, as the two meet and fight over the course of the Galactic Civil War. Ideally the show would run for about 5-8 seasons, starting roughly five years before ANH and ending at the Battle of Jakku or shortly thereafter.
Our main protagonist would be the stormtrooper as he struggles with what is right versus what is expected. His former friend is the rebel soldier, who grows more and more brutal and disillusioned with the war as the seasons go on. (His time spend with Saw Gerrera clearly didn't help.)

The first 2-3 seasons would take place on their main planet, as the two end up trying to find their place in the world and even end up as allies fighting off bandits. This one also deals with each character's family and community. However, as a hidden Jedi in the community makes her way to the forefront and an Inquisitor takes a special interest in the Stormtrooper, the paths split.**** Seasons 4-5 deal with Jakku and hunting down Saw and his sect. Later seasons deal with the war as a whole, and the acts one will take to survive.

In my head I call this show Star Wars: Kindred Enemies, but I'm not really sure what it would end up being.
This show will be darker than others, but I think older fans would love its moral ambiguity.

Lastly, I would assure fans that the Rian Johnson trilogy, High Republic, and other announced movies are not going anywhere. We are just as dedicated to bringing these new stories and visions to life as we are in keeping our promises to the old ones.

In a later meeting I would announce a new series of movies headed by Ryan Coogler and the team behind Black Panther. The movies would be a collaboration between Ryan, Ava DuVernay, and James Wan. They would come together and decide the shape, style, and story of the movies they want to tell. The characters and major story beats would be planned out beforehand, and from there they could go forward. Only when those things are locked into place would I announce this project to the public.
After that I'd hire writers to create help set up the world and create adventures in that era. Right now my top picks would be Sabaa Tahir from An Ember In the Ashes, Kwame Mbalia from Tristan Strong Punches a Hole In the Sky, and Roshani Chokshi from Aru Shah and the End of Time, however other authors of color such as Tomi Adeyomi, Hafsah Faizal, Elizabeth Lim, and Namina Forna should also be considered...once I get around to reading their books...

This era would be separate from the High Republic and the Old Republic. It is unclear if this would tie into Episodes X-XII, but they might.

*Think of Rurouni Kenshin and House of Flying Daggers for references.
**13 Assassins and Seven Samurai are the references here. And I actually forgot the entire list of allies last time I mentioned this! It's Kenobi, Quinlan Vos (now a smuggler), Siri Tachi (now an Inquisitor), Annileen, Owen Lars, Korkie Kryze, Bo-Katan Kryze, Commander Cody, and Q'ira.
***If the first film is about the heart, the second about the body, then this third one is about the spirit. It's weird, trippy, and full of Force Visions that impact the future in ways fans wouldn't expect. I guess the best frame of reference I can think of is The Dark Knight Rises.
****The Stormtrooper would become a Death Trooper, one of those anti-Jedi troopers from Jedi: Fallen Order, and eventually a Pretorian Guard in the First Order.

    Step 1.
I denounce all notions of canon declaring the idea of such in a fantasy world silly and driven by people who want to win at trivia, not enjoy good stories.
Storytellers will be allowed to tell the stories that need told as they need told. Not tied to silly canon rules.

    Step 2.
I plot out several different projects and start their production. Two trilogies. Two series.
    • The Movies
The first trilogy will be the Rian Johnson series. Write/direct the first one, write the next two. The next two will be directed by younger and/or lesser known commodities to share the wealth that a successful SW movie can give a director.
The second trilogy will be more of a loose trilogy set around a concept of a conflict told from several different perspectives. Think Rashamon on a massive scale. I would use the talents of Claudia Gray, James Luceno and Timothy Zahn to form a strong core story and then allow three different directors to tell the story from three different perspectives.
The movies would release with no less than a one year gap.

    • The Series
I would let the Mandalorian run as long as it's profitable but then see more of a shift to the character driven stories. The Obi-Wan short run series would continue letting Deborah Chow do whatever she felt was needed to make it compelling as well. Cassian Andor can go forward on a limited run as well.
The first new series up would be an anthology series set around the world of Star Wars examining various oddities and from the world. Think "From a Certain Point of View" in live action. Kind of a Star Wars Twilight Zone.
The other series would be a high concept series with Alex Garland brought on to be the showrunner. His work on Annihilation and Ex-Machina along with his ability to do bombastic fun from Dredd could pair well in elevating Star Wars to a new level. He can direct some and again with all the other projects, this is to be used to mine for the next generation of writers and leaders.

    Step 3.
The Nostalgia driven won't be left out in my LFL but won't be the main driving force like it seems to be now.

    • Making Solo 2 happen
Solo 2 will happen but it would be a D+ streaming exclusive in the form of a trilogy and it won't really be a Solo 2. I still think the idea to make it Han Solo's live action wiki was a misfire but there's enough meat on them bones with Lando, Q'ira, Chewy etc to mine some good stuff from. Installments wouldn't be more than 90 minutes. Short brisk fun high octane contained adventures. If they do well, they can continue beyond. This would be the first D+ project that already isn't in motion.

    • The ST Class Returns?
Truthfully I felt like most people were short changed in the end of the ST. I would look at bringing Isaac, Boyega, KMT and Billie Lourde back for a movie about rebuilding the Republic or some new government. Chasing down the last remnants of the FO and Empire. About learning from the mistakes of the past and how complacency and ignoring warning signs that Nazis are using the GOP to push their polices there are Space Nazis growing in the distance is bad and should be dealt with swiftly not ignored. I'd offer Daisy her own set of movies or animated show if she felt like she wanted it. All of this would be subject to them returning if they wanted to.

    Step 4.
Books, books, books and some games.

    • The Books
The world of Star Wars is too vast to be so limited. Let more authors have more fun in the playground. They're already doing a great job here IMO but I think the idea of a hard canon is holding some back.

    • The Games
No more EA. Shop for more developers. I don't play games but I've been sick of EA's bantha poodoo for 15 years so I assume most probably are too.

Overall, my plan is to re-open the world to creators and storytellers they way it was for Lucas where canon was a vague concept not hard law and push away from the past and into the world of the new. Keeping things from the past active but not the driving force of selling the franchise. Take some lumps along the way to build up new ideas and new creatives. I'd like to have plenty of new content ready to roll without it all feeling like it occupies the same space.

Obviously I would have to Projects:
Star Wars Infinity and Star Wars beyond.
    What could possibly go wrong.
