Tell me if this ever happened to you :

You and your significant other take part in a contest to win a trip for two.
You get a call and it turns out, you won! But, to claim your prize, you need to assist a 45 minutes presentation.
It has to be attended by the persons signed up for the contest, not you with a friend or parent, it has to be you and your significant other...

This happened to friends of mine yesterday and I smell a scam... but my friends seem to be believe that I'm only saying this cause I'm jealous...

    Am I worried for nothing?

Have you ever heard of the term: "pyramid scheme"?

Yes I am familiar with the concept but I wonder, can you still get your prize if you don't participate in whatever they're trying to get you in?

I'm thinking they need to read the fine print as it was posted. I'm always wary of contests generally, particularly when they suddenly hit you up saying you need to do something you didn't know about to claim the prize you won.

Small chance they could get it without attending, but probably only if there is no mention in the "terms and conditions" jazz of any seminars/timeshare presentations/all that.

Sounds like a scam to me. I never appreciated those those schemes that say you've won something but only mention the "catch" after you've opted in. There's always something more that they want. When does it end? Even if it isn't a scheme, is the presentation something that they agree with/believe in? Is it really worth going to the trouble? Just my two cents. :)
