Heres my idea for the films set up and first act. Can't really think where to go after this but using what we know already this is how I think things will play out.

Under Kylo Ren's leadership the First Order is in disarray, Ren, being indecisive, and unsure of himself makes poor decisions and doesn't inspire confidence so rules through fear. The first Order is losing skirmishes against the resistance and Ren is betting on his knights returning soon with some kind of power or knowledge that will make him powerful enough to rule the galaxy undisputed and end the war.

. Meanwhile The Resistance is resurgent but scattered and still too small to really stand against the First order. Somehow they uncover the location of an abandoned droid factory and plan to activate and reprogram the droid army but they don't have the programme to activate the factory and droids personalities. R2 remembers 3PO was onced linked into the battle droid network and they go on a mission to find crashed and abandoned Tantive on Tatooine, which is the central hub of a new village that has formed around the deserted ship, Kylo Ren hears about the plan through a mole in the Resistance. Still obsessed with Rey and upon learning Rey and the main cast including Leia and a squad of resistance troopers aboard the Falcon are the ones the Resistance has sent to retrieve the data Kylo decides to pursue them himself.

However, The Knights Of Ren return from The Beyond with a new and more powerful master. Possibly the first Sith or whatever Sidious was sensing. They assume command of The First Order with Kylo Ren absent. Hux, desperate for a change in leadership and intimidated by the group of dark side users pledges his and his troops loyalty to a new leader. This new order has a different goal than to Rule the galaxy though, they seek total darkness, to destroy any trace of the light side and purge the galaxy in terror, much the same as it is in the unknown regions to feed their power and extend the reach of the dark side. They have in their possession a weapon that can break the barrier between the world of living and the dead and would turn the fabric of reality into a dark, nightmarish hellscape. \however they are missing a vital component. Something mysterious, powerful and dangerous Luke found while he was exploring the galaxy. Snoke, who was the masters emmisary in the galaxy, had told him before he died that Luke had the object. They fought for it while exploring a temple together a decade prior, losing the fight is how Snoke got his injuries, we see this in a flashback. Hux tells them of a girl who was training with Luke They plan to find Rey and use her connection to Luke to find out where he had hidden it.

After exploring the village and obtaining the memory the group are found and confronted by Kylo Ren and a handful of Stormtroopers. they exchange words, Leia seems to get through to him, as she walks towards him, a hand extended a Tie fighter flies over head and shoots the ground before Leia before she reaches him, gravely injuring her. The First Order under new leadership swarms the area looking for Ren and the Leaders Of the Resistance. Dust is thrown into the air causing confusion a battle starts to kick off but Rey and Kylo stunned by grief stumble over to Leia in the middle of the battle. Kylo Ren manages to say goodbye, Rey is beside him crying,they catch eyes, Rey is full of anger, Ren of despair then suddenly focus and determination. Kylo tries to save her with the force, he fails.

Rey is pulled away from the battle by Finn, they leave Kylo kneeling over her body. They escape but suffer losses. Kylo is then shot by a stormtrooper from behind. Filled with rage he goes on a rampage very similar to Anakin in ATOC. Eventually confronting the knights of Ren in his weakened state he is defeated, his right hand severed, his lightsaber destroyed and left seemingly for dead in the now burning and destroyed village. His powers and faith in the dark side have failed him. While barely conscious on the ground Ghost Luke appears and tell him to go to a planet (The swamp one) and tells him to find The Oracle, who will put him back on the right path...The Oracle will give him some speech about Him and Rey being the key to balancing the force and only together can they save the galaxy. They are both the chosen ones, both immaculate conceptions created by the force, powerful light powerful darkness, Han wasn't his father, Rey's family abandoned her because they never wanted a child. Anakin was not the chosen one, he was created by Palpatine. The prophecy had nothing to do with the sith or jedi, it was about ending the forces unnatural use.
Together they must use their power to save the galaxy, then abandon manipulating the force, them and everyone else so the force can die, The force is a living organism, not a tool to be used for good or evil and it's time has come.

Luke tells him to go back to their old training temple, to start down his path to redemption to confront his actions and to retrieve his green lightsaber. Then to find Rey.

I just typed this out stream of consciousness one night when I was bored during a break at work on my night shift. I put very little thought into it, just some ideas based on the pictures and plot leaks we already had so about 5 minutes worth of thoughts and I'm obviously not a writer and I still think this is a better plot than what we actually got for TROS by highly paid professional writers who had months to hash out ideas and come up with something good. Instead we got ROTJ didn't matter, lets just do it again with less interesting characters. Some people steal their livings I swear.

Add to that stealing bits from Endgame (I am IronMan, I am All The Jedi), and Raiders of the Lost Ark ( the Trio's endless quest for MacGuffins) and I'm left wondering if they had any original ideas at all.
I've read better fan fiction.
