Rise of Skywalker has replaced the Attack of the clones for me at the bottom. (Not including Solo) All those years we spent wondering what happens after Endor and it’s a complete let down to end the Sequel trilogy. I actually found myself unable to enjoy the first 20 minutes because it was so disappointing that this was the direction they were taking and I still havnt been able to watch right through for a 2nd viewing. I thought the force awakens was a good start and didn’t want it end when we see Luke on the cliff. And the last jedi really developed the Ben-Rey story that was the best thing about the trilogy buts it’s obvious the 2 directors had a completely different vision. Some of the dialogue in ROS is as bad if not worse as clones. I understand Carrie was a huge loss but they let sentiment get in the way of story and the scenes with Rey didn’t work for me I think the main fault lays with Disney. They had a release date and no writer/director. Compare to the care that was taken for the Avengers films. It’s very disappointing that this is what happened after the Endor celebration. I came out wishing they had left it alone.

I have held off on this listing for 10 months because I didn't want to give a knee jerk reaction. In my listing below, I have tried to take each movie on an individual basis, but the fact is that my overall disappointment with the sequel trilogy makes me less likely to watch the movies from it that I do enjoy.

I quick update after watching TROS for the fourth time yesterday.

    ANH
    TFA
    ROTJ
    TROS
    SOLO-R1

Palpaptine in this movie is my favorite after the one in ROTJ. Even if I think that it was not a great idea to bring him back.

Tough call once I get past the top 3. But when it comes right down to it I enjoy the deeply flawed ST a damned sight more than I enjoy the even more deeply flawed PT.

BUT... I sure am glad we've got them all.

Having had a bit of time to let everything to metastasize, here are my rankings of the twelve theatrically-released Star Wars movies:

    1. ROTJ.
    2. TESB.
    3. ROTS.
    4. TLJ.
    5. RO.
    6. TROS.
    7. ANH.
    8. TFA.
    9. AOTC.
    10. TPM.
    11. S.
    12. TCW.

If anyone cares as to what this list looked like immediately after I watched TROS, it went as followed:

    1. ROTJ.
    2. TESB.
    3. TLJ.
    4. ROTS.
    5. RO.
    6. ANH.
    7. TROS.
    8. TFA.
    9. AOTC.
    10. S.
    11. TPM.
    12. TCW.

So yeah, TROS, ROTS, and TPM actually shot up a bit in my overall ranking. I apologize for nothing.

My film ranking at this particular moment goes something like this:

    1. Empire Strikes Back
    2. A New Hope
    3. Return of the Jedi
      1. I consider The Siege of Mandalore to be closer to an animated Star Wars movie than the actual Clone Wars movie. This is where I would rank it amongst the films.
    4. The Last Jedi
    5. Solo: A Star Wars Story
    6. The Force Awakens
    7. Revenge of the Sith
    8. The Rise of Skywalker
    9. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    10. Attack of the Clones
    11. The Phantom Menace
    12. The Clone Wars

Holy trinity in my book : ROTS ANH ESB

The rest changes depends on my mood. They all have their good, great and bad parts.

Dead last are TROS and TLJ and that wont change for a long time. Well depends on what Taika does tbh.

TLJ is incredible beautiful, but I personally despise the story decisions in that movie.
TROS is also beautiful to look at but the story is complete bantha poodoo (imo) and reads on paper like terrible fan fiction.

Good list. Just curious, what's the reason for you putting RotS below AotC? :)

    Agree.

Sometimes I don't know wich one I put in the last position. But I think about C3P0's factory scene and the dialogues between Anakin and Padme and voilà, AOTC at the bottom once again

Interesting, there's so many ways to rank these movies yet I think this might be the first time I've seen ROTS dead last on someone's list. (There's probably someone else in here that has it but... oh well.) I've even seen Empire and Star Wars ranked last before.

    It wasn't always like that.
Like most people I considered ROTS at the summit of the prequel trilogy simply by default thanks to finally depicting Vader turning to the dark side and helping the Emperor hunt down and destroy the Jedi (although it wasn't really a "hunt"). It was always close between the three of them.

But over the years I've grown to like The Phantom Menace for its naivety even though its poorly plotted and feels half hearted a lot of the time. The pacing of AOTC's first acts and Obi-Wan discovering Kamino and Jango are still formidable even though everything else is a mess. Revenge Of The Sith is just dull throughout, in my opinion. After a while even the celebrated ending sequence of Vader being "born" while Padme is buried began to feel more and more like the mark of failure. It gives the impression that aside from Obi Wan's hair growing white and Luke and Leia growing up, the whole Galaxy went into hibernation between the end of ROTS and the beginning of A New Hope
