My list is based on the original theatrical versions of the OT... as I will continue to only watch the Harmy's Despecialized versions of those films. Overall, I have really enjoyed the new genre of films, as the effects and cinematography are breathtaking and simply cannot be equaled, but I still feel most strongly about the OT. I am also including the Mandalorian as though it were a long feature film (or even trilogy in and of itself), as it has rekindled my love of Star Wars and what still is to come now that the Skywalker Saga is over. I consider the PT sort of how I feel about the comics and cartoon shows (which I actually enjoy more): they help to fill in the gaps in the story and background, but I actually have a difficult time watching them without cringing.

With that prologue, here is my list:

1a. Star Wars (Nothing can touch or recreate the moment of awe and wonder that Star Destroyer first entered above my head in the theater).
1b. Empire Strikes Back (I really have a difficult time choosing between them, as ANH started it all, but ESB may actually be the better film).
2. Rogue One (If not for the nostalgia and the OT's formative effect on my childhood, this might be number 1 on my list, but I wish the CGI Leia was better).
3. The Mandalorian (I love everything about the first five episodes I have seen so far...)

The above are the most masterful works of art for me.

4. Return of the Jedi
5. The Rise of Skywalker
6a. The Force Awakens
6b. Solo

There is such a fine line dividing these movies that only the nostalgia and childhood memory keeps ROTJ at the top of this group. Otherwise, these could all be interchangeable really...

7. The Last Jedi
8. Revenge of the Sith
9. The Phantom Menace
10. Attack of the Clones

While I enjoyed TLJ and ROTS, they have not maintained the same feelings and level of wonder for me that the other films have. I have to give TLJ the nod over ROTS just based off of the cinematography and effects. As stated above, the earlier PT films fall far off from the rest, both in how believable they are and their re-watchability. There are bits and pieces that are fun, but the poorly-aged CGI, cringeworthy romance, and bad bantha poo doo jokes do them in for me.

Star Wars has always been my religion and I have loved every minute of this age of expansion of the Star Wars Universe... very interested to see where it goes from here.

Episode 3 really is the best movie for me.

For me the big advantage than prequels have against sequels is the quality of the lightsabers fights.

Also the "you were my brother Anakin" scene is for me the most powerful scene of the saga with the classic "I am your father".

I saw TROS a second time not too long after seeing it the first time, and yeah, my opinion hasn't changed:

Tier 1 (always rewatchable, always enjoy, there's no real order here):
ROTJ
ROTS
ESB
Solo
TFA
The Mandalorian (because people seem to be including it now)

Tier 2 (will watch when doing a marathon or re-watch and will definitely enjoy, but I don't seek these out like Tier 1):
ANH
TLJ
TPM
AOTC (Geonsis is lit, the sound design is PHENOMENAL, and Love Across the Stars is one of the best Star Wars songs ever)

Tier 3 (ONLY will watch during marathons):
TROS (I actually really enjoy the first act. And everything up until Ach-To is pretty solid)
R1 (love the Death Troopers and the U-Wings, and the entire third act is awesome. I just can't stand the music...)

 

As jan. of 2020.....

If The Clone Wars film was live action it will be 11th. If The Mandalorian was a movie it will be 5th. If the Ewok films were canon they will be below Solo. The Holiday Special (with parts becoming canon) will be 12.

 

So I watched TPM and AOTC for the first time after seeing TROS.
I'd put TPM above TROS now. And probably have the last two tied.

 

After seeing it a few more times, I would bump TROS up to Tier II and ahead of Rogue One. I'd keep RO as a "Tier II" film though.

 

The first group - for childhood influence/magic which no new movie will ever replicate and outright quality

• Empire Strikes Back
• Return of the Jedi
• A New Hope

Daylight

• Rogue One - actually came close to capturing that original magic.

Much, much daylight then some ok films

1. Solo - meh film but no major problems other that faily to capture the essence of Han
2. The Force Awakens - ok start but gges off the rails when star killer base is introduced. Finding Luke meant nothing to go with a bunch of other plot and other issues.

Daylight then the bad films. PT is vastly superier in the over arching story. The ST I will say had better acting and the different departments did well other that maybe some cinematography in TLJ and some editing in TROS. The ST scripts were just terribe in my opinion.
