Well, you look at the sequence properly, and at the "war" properly - neither of which RLM do ;)

"More" meaning and urgency, yeah sure why not.

It's not really in the "oh no we care about them" sense but more like in a "go get them" sense, or "these are good soldiers, they'll take care of us".

"Detract from" - question is, how much is left, or how much moar is absent due to this lack of weight: Dooku has already done enough to make himself hated, by trying to execute the main characters and gloating condescendingly while at it.

It's also been established that the separatists are out to threaten/attack the republic, which obviously have been already shown in both movies as far more than... a disposable mass produced army.

So, enough to make for functioning drama, with a factor that diminishes it to an extent (or, two factors, precisely - the "I'm not sure who won" being another one, i.e. lack of clarity about how this grand battle started and when or how it ended, outside from the good guys winning) - as opposed to a complete dramatic failure like RLM claimed it was.
"At least we sorta cared about the gungans, but in this case not one bit about the clones", well... had this been an equivalent, comparable sequence to that other one, i.e. an actual battle sequence focusing on... the battle, that actually would've been a valid point.

Well, in the third movie the clones take off their masks and come off as even more sympathetic, and there's at least one dramatic death - by that time definitely more "rootable" than the gungans :D

They're occupying that monastic society with Bruce Spence - a rather potent moment RLM of course gloss over, in order to claim that there's zero investment in anything as opposed to "not enough".

What, the nintendo gag? I'm not taking that one seriously.

Well showing moar dismay and oppression outside Coruscant would've been the way to go - however, in order to argue that point, you first need to establish what's already been done, which he doesn't properly.

There are various more tidbits here and there, but by far not enough - this is particularly a problem for the ROTS review, which is set up as a "serious critique" and, well, "fair $ balanced", and even aims to disprove the "faulty consensus" that this movie is better, as opposed to just preaching to the choir.

So yea, them "not giving any ground" to sound views is kind of why they fail.

More like, you can take their sloppy points and make valid criticisms out of them - most of which, as it happens, amount to a more positive verdict... by coincidence.

Actually it does focus on that a lot :D

"Angry" would be the fitting description, and he's actually justified in his reaction to a degree - even Obiwan takes his side (to a degree).

Well, the only reason you just named why it supposedly doesn't, was kind of not entirely accurate.

Eh, all this is boiling down to is that you don't like the RLM media reviews because you don't like how he chooses to critique them. At the end of the day, he still makes plenty of valid points, even if, as we both agree, he isn't entirely fair with his overly negative viewpoints.

As for Anakin and everything else you point out, what your saying works fine on paper(just as the films themselves do), but that doesn't come across on the screen. We can go round and round, but no matter what argument is made, it isn't going to change the content of the films or make Anakin a properly engaging character in the eyes of most moviegoers(especially those who require proper character development and acting).

If you enjoy the PT, power to you, I'm even somewhat envious of that. I don't fully hate them myself, although the romance scenes make AotC particularly hard to stomach, but I do find them disappointing because I know how much better they could have been. Watching The Clone Wars flesh out things like Anakin and Obi-Wan's friendship, Anakin's truly likable and heroic side, making the Clones more relatable(no, having Cody take off his helmet and exchange a few lines with Obi-Wan doesn't achieve that) and even fleshing out Yoda's spiritual journey with Qui-Gon all point out how much good stuff there is to mine from the PT era, its just sad that the movies aren't near as enjoyable. Heck, even reading the novelization of RotS is a far more engaging experience than actually watching the film.

To me, things like that will always be the biggest tragedy of the PT, there truly is a lot of great material to work with on paper, but the execution is where things come up lacking(sorely so in the case of Anakin and Padme's relationship). You may feel that the execution was satisfactory overall, but I demand more from my movies, especially if I know there is great material hiding underneath.

How are they valid, when they're "not entirely fair"? Maybe "not entirely valid", if so?

Well, the extent to which they're "not entirely" valid, is far greater than "not entirely" - it's so great, the points even become effectively invalid!

How does the point that was discussed here, not come across on screen?
Keep in mind, I was talking about the movie, not the "script".

The content isn't gonna be "changed", but it can be represented accurately (by me), or inaccurately (by you).

And if you can't even tell whether his angry reaction at the council was justified to a degree or not at all - how can you be a valid judge of "character development"?
And if you can't tell between whiny and angry, a valid judge of acting?

I've got a sound critical view of it, which is indeed enviable ;p

It achieves what it achieves, is the point.

This could've been a valid verdict, if your critical assessment of the movies were valid.

    In which movie?

When you can assess the present material properly, you can proceed to think about what there could've been "more" of.

Keep going round and round, if you want to present your opinions on art as fact, then be my guest. Not a single thing you have said makes RotS any better in my eyes. In my opinion, you are far too forgiving of a thoroughly lackluster film. So go ahead, post some more snotty posts about how superior your opinion of the Prequels are, the rest of us will continue to demand actual quality from our movies, in the meantime you can make excuses and defend inferior films.

    "Actual quality"?
    "Inferior"?

That sounds quite definitive and objective for such an subjective art form :D :D

How are they not fair? The extent of their fairness is valid enough for them to be both fair and valid. What you have said is affectedly valid.

How does the point come across on the screen?
Keep in mind I'm not talking about the script but the movie.

How can you act like you can validly judge a characters development when you have been content to change accurate representation with inaccurate representation of the content?

Critically, you've got an unenviable, "X Factor first round" sound to which you are tone deaf.

Is the point "it achieves what it achieves" and if so what is the point?

Ah yes, but your critical assessment of the movies is invalid because you lack "good taste" which is critical in assessing validity.

The Star Wars Prequels, in which are movies(plural).

When you can't present a proper assessment of proceedings, your thoughts become ever more immaterial.

Those two characters have virtually nothing in common between their versions in 2 and 3 - anyone who can't tell the difference, and simply describes "the relationship" in "the movies", is showing insufficient observation skills to have a valid opinion.

    Hence the question ;)

Have I seen a single substantive post of yours, Darth Board? At any point?

First you said I took a half of your post out of context, which wasn't true, and then you just proceeded to spam stupid sh*te - I think I'll do just fine ignoring you, bye :D

I'm actually a pretty big Phantom Menace fan (despite it's flaws). Maybe it's cause of all the nostalgia and the soundtrack, but I love it. I just can't like AOTC. I've tried and it's just so bad. Even when I first saw it in the theater at 7 years old, I hated it (and I loved TPM a lot at the time). I watched it yesterday just to give it another shot and it's impossible. ROTS is alright but I still can't get over Hayden's acting.

I've been a Star Wars (sw) fan since I was 8 years old, I saw it at at a drive-in movie theater. I'm 47 years old now and I can't understand how someone can call themselves a fan of star wars, if they hate the prequels so much. Friends of mine gave away all their Star Wars toys because they really hated the prequels. (now they regret it cuz they like TFA). they became big LOTR fans, yet I remained a Star Wars Fan through out. Yes AOTC is not a good movie but it continues Lucas' story. There are bits and pieces in AOTC that are good, yet I still watch it cuz seeing all those Jedi in one place made me happy as a SW fan. i hate the fact that Samuel Jackson was a Jedi because he is all over the place but he did a pretty decent job. i wish they had put him under make up like simon Pegg in TFA. Anyway i can't agree that AOTC is the worst thing ever made by man and still call myself a sw fan. I'm not here to debate about if I'm right or wrong, I work sometimes 17 hours a day. Today is my day off and i came here to enjoy Star Wars and I find hate. If you hate something so much find something you love and waste your time there LOL

Based on your earlier posts here, I doubt there's more substance to this post than simple "ha! I actually like that movie you all call the worst, just as much as the one you call the best! what you got to say now, eh?" contrarianism.
