Some of the saga’s most inspiring and quotable lines of dialogue can be found in Attack of the Clones. A personal favorite is «Yup»

It was the one I enjoyed the most when I saw it in the theater the first time but has wound up being my least favorite of the three. The people I saw it with all thought it was pretty good, we didn't like it as much as any OT movie but we thought things were on the right track. We drove to Dallas a week later and saw it in a digital theater and it was old 1/3 of the way in. 3 of the 5 members of my group kept nodding off, which I found pretty impressive in such a loud movie. I could see that happening now that we're in out late 30s but we were only 21/22 at the time.

Attack of the Clones is a film about slavery and freedom trading places with each other, but other than that the film is obviously flawed and nowhere near as accomplished as any of the Disney films

Be careful about saying that in the TLJ forums. You might find yourself being attacked by the "It's the WORST thing to happen to humanity since...." crowd. LOL

Thanks for the warning. I'm still convinced that the backlash to TLJ is inherently right-wing in nature

I see them as a bunch of bolsheviks and you see them as fascists. Well they are both next to each other on the politic spectrum so it makes sense. :)

If you're inferring that socialism is fascism, I'll have to disagree: fascism is censorship, and the only political system that creates censorship is nationalism and capitalism

That being said, TLJ is a film that should inspire anyone

Okay, first of all, I'm not saying that. Just FYI, I'm a PhD in history and have studied both. This is probably not the place to discuss the difference between communism (where did you get the idea that Bolsheviks are socialists? They were a hard core Russian communist revolutionaries...) and if you study Fascism (I have several books you can check out if you are interested in Fascism like Stanley Paynes "Fascism: Comparison and Definition" and Robert Paxton's "The Anatomy of Fascism") you know that it is right next to communism on the political spectrum. That's why they hated each other. Similar to how in the early modern period Catholics and Protestants fought against each other so vehemently. They are arguing over the same things.

As a matter of fact, Mussolini was part of the socialist international prior to WWI.

Sorry, I don't come here to talk about this stuff. I come here to escape it and was trying to make a joke. I see it didn't go over very well. :/

I didn't mean to bite at you. I guess the general atmosphere around here lately has us all on edge.

Part of the problem with fascism itself is that it is hard to define. I took a course on it in grad school and by the end of the course I was more confused than when I started. LOL If you look at FA Hayek's book, The Road to Serfdom, he notes they had similar intellectual roots, thus you get Mussolini moving from socialism/communism into creating fascism during WWI. Stanley Payne gives a more robust definition, noting the goals of fascism are: 1. attempt to create a new, modern culture, 2. creation of an authoritarian state not based on traditional models, 3. integrated national economic structure, be that structure termed national corporatist, national syndicalist or national socialist, 4. Positive evaluation of and a willingness to use war (I'd say the actual goal IS war, not to use war as a means, but war as an end result), 5. because of point 4 you get a change in the relationship of the nation to other nations.

    Fascinating stuff, really.

I like it more than most people, although it's my least favorite film Lucas made. There's a lot of dumb moments, but everything from the Battle of Geonosis onwards I love. Despite it being my 2nd least favorite Star Wars film overall, I still like it a lot.

In My Opinion, AOTC Is The BEST STAR WARS MOVIE!!!!!!! It Was AMAZING! As Much As I Wish Jango Fett Did Not Die, I Feel It Was Necassary For The Story, I Loved The Battle Of Geonosis And Think Yoda Flipping Was Awesome! (I Will Consult The Size Doesn’t Matter Thing In My Own Thread Eventually) I Thought The Lightsaber Duels Were Epic And Found That I Either Looked Over Everything Cringy Or Found It Funny! Overall, I Give AOTC 9/10

I know it gets a lot of dislike, but I like it a lot. I didn't really have any issues with Anakin and Padme. My only real issue was the ridiculous comedy with C-3PO.

I also felt like the part with Anakin on the conveyor belt in the factory was made specifically for the purpose of having a video game level made after it. It probably wasn't but it seemed so side scroller-like that it left me with a bad feeling.

I could be wrong so somebody correct me. Wasn’t this whole sequence added in by Lucas in reshoots as it was never in the original script? The only reason I ask is that Lucas likes to push technology. Maybe he thought it would be a cool scene to experiment with new technology, but in the end it comes off too much like a videogame.

I don't know about that specifically, but since this scene is where Anakin's lightsaber was destroyed, wouldn't that have had to happen somewhere else instead if this was done in reshoots? It seems like a few other scenes would be affected by the inclusion of this scene because of the lightsaber. And maybe they did just make those changes.

I think AOTC probably has the best plot of any SW film, now that doesn't make it the best film. I give Lucas credit for 2 things I did not expect during the PT: The Emperor legitimately rose to power (mirroring the rise of Hitler), and the Clones (Stormtroopers) were originally as part of the Republic's army. So if you are watching the movies in order 1-6, those are big twists that play out in the PT that aren't appreciated when watching the OT first (Just like a new 1-6 viewer won't appreaciate the Vader twist in ESB like we did in 1980). Lucas could have easily had The Emperor take power without any backstory like Snoke in the ST, but the Kamino sequence really shows the master plan he had in motion that started in TPM.
