Decent. Brings a different tone to the saga than the OT and TPM. Definitely a noir style to the film. Great music in it as well, as all the I-IV films have.

While I do agree, I'd have to say that this poor acting adds to the character. Anakin is young, emotional, and conflicted and to me this adds to the character development. In ROTS, Hayden's acting seems a bit more natural and fluid, implying that there was some maturing done between these two events.

I think some fans give Hayden too much blast. At the end of the day, if the acting is poor, to some extent it's on the director. And we all know George does not like directing actors.

I do agree that some of the "bad acting" isn't really bad. A lot of fans point to the scenes on Naboo with Padme when he's kind of pawing at her, and the line about sand. But I'm like "The dude is part of a monastic order, he's NEVER really been around a woman , not like this... Hell yeah the dude is gonna be weird!!! He ain't got no game for Christs sake!!!!" LMAO

Completely agree with you, I see absolutely nothing wrong with Hayden's performance in these movies.

One of my students (we were watching this at Christmas in 2019 after their final exam) mentioned the way Anakin is awkward around Padme when he's trying to hit on her on Naboo. I was like, the dude is a member of a monastic order!!!! He ain't got no game! Of course he's awkward, you should see yourself in that situation!!! LMAO

I think the main criticism is in the absurdity of a confident and accomplished woman, like the Padmé character, finding this fumbling and insecure creep she used to babysit, at all alluring or attractive. No, he has no “game”, but he inexplicably manages to woo her just the same. So the in-world reality then is that Anakin, despite how enormously awkward his demeanor is to us, is actually quite adept at earning a woman’s affections.

In a fictional world about space magic and planet killing superweapons, the romance between these two characters is probably the most farfetched story element in the series.

There are plenty of links/things that draw them together. In many ways, he is like her. She was accomplished at a young age. I don't know the culture of Naboo, but I'd say being queen by 14 is pretty accomplished. Same for Anakin. He's probably heard the whole "chosen one" thing for a while. They can relate on that level.

She's also obviously lonely. As they say, it's lonely at the top. I'd imagine he is as well.

I think we all have had someone who fell for us, inexplicably. I still wonder to this day why the wife fell for me. LOL

I think Padme liked Anakin at least from the beginning of AOTC. She just fought it, because Anakin is sworn to celibacy. But it wasn't until she was facing certain death that she finally admitted it. Then she ended up not dying, so then she was screwed.

When AOTC first came out I was I think a freshman in high-school. I was a bit disappointed in TPM, so I wasn't really excited for it. When I saw it I loved it. The Clone Wars finally explained. Boba fett origin and stormtrooper origin. I didn't hate it. Now, it's decent, I watch it when it comes on tv, which is actually kind of frequent. I can't really say there's anything really bad about it. The dialog does suck. The one that gets me is " I wish I could just wish away my feelings, but I can't" i dunno. It just gets me. Of couse, CGI doesn't age well. At the time it was cutting edge, now not so much.

I remember sitting in the theater for Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings in 2001, and the AOTC trailer came on the screen, no one, absolutely no one was excited. I was so excited for it! Some people commented about TPM and how bad Star Wars is... I really had a bad feeling for Star Wars. I thought Star Wars would become like Star Trek just for nerds... haha just joking...

I bought tickets on opening day and I was so happy I did. the theater in Manhattan's AMC was filled with Star Wars Fans! Dressed for the occasion waving lightsabers like it was the Fourth of July! I had a wonderful time, everyone was on the edge of their seats throughout the entire film. Gasping and cheering at every moment.

The awkward dialogue didn't bother the audience at all, they laughed and said they remembered the first time they talked to a woman they really liked, several people commented positively.

If you can, try to watch a Star Wars film with Star Wars fans, get your tickets on opening day! I had a similar experience with TFA, a theater full of Star Wars fans! They clapped as soon as the crawl rolled out. They laughed at John Boyega's horrible attempts at comedy. He's a good actor but he is not Kevin Smith.

It wasn't until I went online that I read all the toxic criticisms of AOTC. Thinking I could find a place to talk about a movie I loved with Star Wars fans... not so pleasant, but the Cantina is still the best place to share your love for Star Wars.

On another note, the Solo movie experience was awkward there was only a handful people in the theater... I thought Star Wars was dead, or maybe people were experiencing Star Wars fatigue? Its amazing that Solo has garnered a cult following now... no more standalone films, but people want more Solo... make Solo 2 happen... haha. :D

I didn't see solo until a couple weeks after it released. I was super busy at work that week, working late everyday. I think a lot of people had star wars fatigue. A friend who is a casual fan, didn't bother watching. I like solo. Hopefully the Lando show, if it actually happens piggy backs off of it and encourages a solo2.

I'm a quiet movie goer. Laughter is uncontrollable, but i refrain from excessive noise, because people are trying to watch a movie. I don't really want to hear people clapping at blue milk in rogue one or whatever. I'm wierd though.

One of the things I hate about going to the cinema are obnoxious people. I remember one movie goer was laughing uncontrollably when ANH was re-released in the theater, during the special edition release.

When OB1 says, run Luke run... he was laughing as if to say, Luke Skywalker is a coward or weakling, or something like that... I was thinking, I get it, please stop, you are the only one in the theater laughing loudly, it's not funny, you're ruining my movie experience, talk about taking me out of the film, the last time I saw ANH in the theater I was 7 years old... come on DUDE.

Cellphones, some people can not live without them, pre-cyborg individuals, you are part robot you can not turn off your cellphone, turning off your cellphone is like Luke Skywalker turning off 3P0... please stop talking we are watching a movie... I enjoy watching movies at home.

I rather do something creative when going out on a date, something out doors... rarely do I go to the movies on a date.

I only go to theaters in wealthy neighborhoods... haha just kidding.... I remember going to one particular movie theater out of my area because it was the only theater with tickets for a must see film, all I have to say is never again... I will wait... haha

I love going to the movies but I really enjoy watching movies at home. With all the predictions that movies theaters are going away, it really doesn't bother me, I have a great theater like set up at home. Netflix and chill ;)

I only go to the movies for an event movie, movies you must see on the big screen/IMAX, for example Dune.

I might end my a-list membership with AMC soon I don't really go to the movies 3 times a week anymore. It's becoming a waste... however, with Spiderman No Way home, the Matrix this month I might hold on to it a bit longer...

Any WHO, I'm off topic, lets get back to AOTC... SORRY FOR THAT.... crazy old wizard rant over.

    Cheers,
    Rogue

Especially considering that one incident when you brutally, and without the vaguest shadow of regret, butchered an entire village and then defended it. She was surprisingly accommodating about that.

I’m “mostly” done with movie theaters, but I will make an exception for No Way Home. Don’t want to risk spoilers.

I’d rather buy a month of HBO Max for Matrix 4, and everything else can wait for home video.

I can respect the theater decision especially depending on where you may live. I myself would rather go to the theater. That also has much to do with where I live.

It has some great moments like the battle of geonosis and the clone army being discorvered but most of the other scenes and especially padme and annikin are pretty terrible

Like all of the other Star Wars movies I have seen, it has its flaws. But overall, it's my favorite Prequel Trilogy movie and one of my two favorite Star Wars movies.

I'll admit I didn't get through all 17 pages worth of comments about AOTC but I was surprised that in all the posts I did read, NOBODY mentioned the Tuskin Raiders.

I couldn't believe that in 2002, George Lucas presented us such a hackneyed 1940s and 50s-era depiction of indigenous people. Thank God Jon Favreau has worked to rectify this tragedy in The Mandalorian and TBoBF.
