    I've often thought that one of the problems with the reception received by the prequels in general, but AOTC specifically was that it came out during the summer between LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. These movies were, like Star Wars, an epic fanboy nerd-fest, but they were also incredibly well done. I often call them one of the greatest achievement in filmmaking history in terms of size and scope. They featured complex themes, beautiful locations, quality acting, amazing music, and they used models, real world sets, and costumes - all things the prequels could have had. Instead, the prequels had less of those things and were met with mixed feelings while each LOTR film garnered critical praise and best picture nods. The prequels looked like silly cartoons by comparison. And it showed at the box office with AOTC finishing behind The Two Towers as well as Spiderman 2. That Ep II and III came out in the midst of the Harry Potter films (also better made films than the PT) didn't help either.

    Agree. The opening scene (first 20 minutes I guess) of ROTS its boring. First of all: the design of the destroyers and ships are poors (expecially Anakin and Obi-Wan fighters). The battle itself its a mess, too many things happening at the same time, makes you dizzy...sum that with zero of emotion and adreline...After that we have an horrible scene of R2 fighting with two droids in a bad CGI effect...plus: the figth of Obi-Wan/Anakind vs Dooku, again: zero emotion and some shots with CGI are badly done. The most interesting thing I think its the landing, and that's all.

    Hummm...it's hard to decide wich one is the worst, I agree. But I choose AOTC because of these sequence or scene:

    - Anakin and Padme in Naboo - all the loving/romance scenes, all of them, poorly directed and actuated;
    - Battle of Geonosis - starting with the "gladiator" arena, passing to the battle itself (again another visually mess);
    - Yoda vs Dooku - Yoda junping like a crazy monkey its one of the things that bothers me more than everything in the PT.

    I have seen all 6 SW movies with the same friends I grew up with and AOTC is the only SW movie that one of my friends fell asleep during the movie. During the Anakin/Padme romance scenes we looked over and my one friend was out like a light.

    That's when I knew SW hit a low point when a movie you wait for 3 years of hype and expectations puts you to zzzzzzz...

    In some ways, it is the worst film in the series. The editing is all over the place, the dialogue is terrible, Padme's motivations for falling in love with Anakin are MIA, and Dooku is basically a non-entity.

    But in other ways, it's incredibly enjoyable. The action sequences are all brilliant, it's visually rich (new planets, Jango Fett, the arena and battle, the Jedi Temple), and there is lots of foreshadowing. I watched it five times in theaters, and revisit it quite often.

    It's just a shame that so many scenes that would have solved all the problems re: characterization (like the Lost Twenty explanation, or Padme talking to C-3PO about Anakin) were filmed and deleted.

    Worst thing ever made by a human is somewhat hyperbolic. But I do tend to agree that it is the worst film of the saga. I know Phantom Menace gets most of the blast, but I find it more entertaining myself.

    Yea cos WWI and WWII had much better cinematography and less CGI.... -.-
    Are you serious...you can't compare a not so good star wars movie with EVERYTHING ever done.
    That is IN-SANE!

    WIth myself still being in high school, naturally I had grown up with the Prequels, although I enjoy the OT a bit more. That being said, I actually care for the Prequels all the same amount. Maybe It's still the kid in me, or maybe its nostalgia. Either way, in its entirety, I can't say TOO many bad things about the Attack of the Clones.

    It was most disappointing thing since my son. And while my son eventually hanged himself in the bathroom of a gas station, the unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequels is that they'll be around. Forever. They will never go away. They can never be undone.

    It gets a lot of heat, but I'll never fully understand why. Is the editing choppy? Yes. Is the romance laughable and stiff? Absolutely. But it was also fun, visually stunning, and a bit of a fanboy delight. Jedi armies, Clone Wars, Jango vs. Obi-Wan, Yoda fighting, Anakin's immediate reaction to Shmi's death... not to mention how surprisingly timely it was. Palpatine receiving emergency powers from a reactionary senate was actually a very !!! moment in 2002, just after 9/11 and just before the Iraq War. There are a lot of good or at least interesting ideas in the film, and I think that's why I value it. I see the film I know it could be (from the script, and the vision) rather than what it is at face value (which is still a fun romp).

    Arh.. Yes you can, at least comparing it to the OT trilogy and Mr.Plinkett (Who's actually a really smart guy whos study Film/TV at Uni) Actually educates and teaches you on how making a movie is done, and rules that come along with it. Some of it as just basic logic. He has a bias in some respect, as we all do.. But he clearky debunks this in his review, imagine how much time and effort went into making this.
