That's a fascinating way to handle this.

I know that fans feel that Mortis deserves more closure and explanation, but I agree that explicitly trying to explain it would probably take more than a single movie's runtime (and that's not even considering, you know, having the rest of the movie outside of that reference).

But really, for all Mortis' awesome bits that it adds to canon, it ultimately adds up to some pretty standard mysticism that could be relatively easily alluded to in this final film with minimal exposition. Best of both worlds, then- easily palatable story for the casual audience, huge lorebuilding and fanservice for the obsessed fans.

Rey and refeemed Ben go back in time and kill Episode 1 Palpatine. Episode 9 ends with Anakin leaving Watto’s shop and going home to Shmi as all the events that happened in the Skywalker Saga never happened and the galaxy stays at peace.

That's more or less my thinking. We know Filoni and Lucas both had some influence on the story, just based on what KK has said about their roles in the bigger picture recently. An dit's undeniable the approach the sequels have taken toward the Force has been more mystical and mysterious. If leaks and rumors are to be believed, Ben and Rey form a Force Dyad that's eerily similar to the Brother and Sister, with Palpatine serving as the Father. The rumors also indicate all of the explicitly mystical stuff was excised though, mostly because folks found it confusing, although the implication remains. So I think we could be right! The mystical nature of the Force revealed in the Mortis story could underpin the importance of Ben and Rey, and their unprecedented powers, in TROS, and the folks who watched TCW get an extra special treat.

I like the idea, that Palpatine (or his master which I don't name here) knew of the prophecy and created Anakin to use it to manipulate the Jedi. But what he actually did was fulfilling the prophecy by doing so.

Bad guys win. There is no redemption for Ben. Resistance is destroyed and movie ends with Kylo Ren still Supreme Leader or as Palpatine's apprentice or ally.

I might as well go ahead and post this. I like my Star Wars so much better than the recent spoilers. And by the way, I was the first to post spec of Palpatine's return!

My whole scenario began before TFA's release, as a way to close certain plot holes in the PT/OT, like the aging of Anakin between ROTS and ROTJ.

It begins with Galactic President Leia busy at her desk. A drawer opens...we see a lightsaber... we hear the Force theme - which ends abruptly as she pulls a tablet from the drawer, then slams it shut.

Suddenly she glances up and goes "Bwagh!" as, for the very first time in her life, the Force Ghost of her father Anakin Skywalker has appeared to her -- as Darth Vader. Seems he realizes she would not recognize his younger self.

After she composes herself, Vader apologizes for his appearance and morphs into Hayden. (I wrote this in 2013!) Seeing Anakin's boyish younger form fascinates and momentarily disarms her. Anakin tells her that he realized that Palpatine killed Padme and was manipulating him from the start. He says he searched for and watched over her and Luke as best he could without tipping off his boss.

Leia confronts him about his evil deeds like standing by during the destruction of Alderaan, his personal activities as a enforcer including interrogating her and torturing Han. He claims to have been working against Palpy ever since he realized that Palpy had lied about trying to save Padme, and that he was at constant psychic war with the evil whispers in his head. He laments Palpy's power, acknowledging that Yoda nor the Jedi nor he himself could defeat him. (The story, again from 2013, was called "The Balance of the Force".)

Obiwan appears, chiding Anakin for the danger of extolling the Dark Side to a living Jedi. They bicker for a moment, when Yoda appears, gently suggesting that Anakin is right. Mace Windu appears, reminding them that in proper balance, the light side must keep the dark side in check. Then Qui Gon appears to remind Anakin to get on with the reason he has appeared to Leia, that Anakin is not where he needs to be to fulfill his destiny, and that she must convince Luke to correct the situation.

At this point, Leia's daughter (written in 2013) shows up with carryout, and Leia introduces her to the old Masters. Anakin in particular seems moved.

Luke is at the old Jedi Temple on Coruscant, rifling through old records among the ruined building, which Palpatine had taken over for menial imperial tasks. Luke comes across and watches the younglings incident file, which reveals that Anakin did not slaughter the toddlers but used his lightsaber to seal their chamber to protect them from the battle. He is then seen performing his first Force chokes on two stormtroopers who have come upon the chamber and killed the younglings.

Luke ponders the video, lost in thought. He recalls what Anakin's ghost told him, that he helped the rebels to get the deathstar readouts as he wanted to destroy Palpatine and considered the deathstar an affront to The Force. He knew Luke was among the rebel strike force when he saw Artoo, and he singed his former droid to encourage Luke to use the Force. He got rid of the other ships to avoid witnesses, because he was prepared to take the shot at the exhaust port if Luke had failed. He actually fired, but he was knocked off course by Han's attack. He doesn't think much of his son in law.

At this point we see that when he was knocked off course, his ship was damaged. His only easy option -- to land on Yavin -- was obviously unacceptable. He hid, charging his solar panels, before limping into deep space.

In the middle of nowhere, he comes across an old Republic Jedi marker buoy warning of a nearby singularity. He makes out enough of the buoy's message to determine that the singularity points to an empty region of space containing only a small world entirely populated with monsters.

He decides that this sounds relaxing, and enters the wormhole. Attempting to adjust his heading knocks him out into the far edge of a solar system. Exhausted, dehydrated, and with his ship's oxygen supplying water running low, he heads toward the star. He lands on a frigid moon, taking on water. Closer to the star, the broken panels restore his TIE's functions as he lands on a planet on which he gas seen an apparent probe. He finds the probe and is excited to find that it too has solar panels, hoping to use components to repair his ship. He clears off the dust from one, and it springs to life and soon begins transmitting. Vader hurries back to his ship, takes off, and follows the probe's transmission.

Soon he comes across a world whose gleaming arrays of light mark it as an industrial society. He curses the lies of the Jedi and exults in his salvation. Entering the atmosphere, he is soon leading that planet's defense forces on a merry chase. He is mystified that their ships cannot enter orbit. He soon escapes them and lands in an area devoid of city lights.

I will cut off the story as this point, as I don't just want to post a fanfic. Vader has found Earth, in the present day. He meets and marries a Padme lookalike, freely sells his technology to the local authorities, and spends 15 years building a peaceful, evil-whisper-free life for himself. His wife is s military widow with a young son, and she bears him twin daughters, one of whom gets all the physical prowess and the other of whom gets all the midichlorians. Over the objections of his wife, he begins training them in the Force while they are only toddlers.

One Thanksgiving, as the family is about to sit down to dinner, a strange young woman arrives at their door, accompanied in a rickety minivan by her friends. When she asks for him by name, in the language of the galactic empire, he is alarmed... still more when she tells him he must return to fulfill his destiny. He ignites his lightsaber and the two duel until suddenly the young woman lowers her weapon and addresses him as "Daddy. "

There's more, but I will leave it there for now.

My wildest theory was that Palpatine and Asajj Ventress are Rey’s grandparents.

A theory I have more hope in is Rey and Ben/Ren are brother and sister:

    1. They have a Force Bond and can communicate like Luke did with Leia on Cloud City.
    2. Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is totally based on Jacen Solo/Darth Cadeus who has a sister Jedi named Jaina.
    3. Rey hugs Leia in TFA and TRoS in a way that seems like a daughter hugging a mother, not strangers.
    4. Rey pilots the Falcon with ease and fixes it like a pro, like she’s been around it and had pointers.
    5. The way she deeply mourns Han seems excessive for someone who knew him for such a short time.
    6. Rey will be the Rise of Skywalker because she’ s Leia’s daughter who maiden name is Skywalker (Organa yeah, but her real bloodline is Skywalker). JJ Abrams is Jewish and for some time proof of Jewish heritage is through the matriarchal bloodline; and with ST being more pro women, it would make sense to honor Leia’s bloodline.
    7. Luke’s refusal to train Rey in TLJ would be justified, since its his niece and his nephew’s training went so well (a la dark side)
    8. It would explain Rey’s incredible powers.
