Rey isn't Leia's daughter. The way Han and Leia treat her doens't make sense, and people have pointed out hte time lines in the novels don't make sense.

Making Rey Leia and Han's daughter would be like the Fight Club version of Star Wars. I just cant see it happening after both TFA and Bloodline showing Leia and Han so concerned about Ben and not a word about Rey.

Completely agree; I don't see what could possibly be gained by having them not talk about someone who is their daughter - especially after having met her - if that really were the case. Even thinking your daughter is dead is still a reason to think/talk about her, so I feel like we're seeing some strangely uncharacterisic leaps in logic applied to characters that we know pretty well after 40 years.

I still think the most plausible possibility is that Rey is Luke's daughter (said this elsewhere, but seriously: I don't think her lineage is the big twist in this trilogy a la "No, I am your father", let alone this film), and the most likely possibility after that, I think, is that we have yet to meet her parents at all (and I struggle to see how the story could possibly gain anything from that being the case).

I've taken Solo and Kenobi completely off the table as plausible possibilities for myself at this point, to be perfectly honest.

Yes and if they thought she were dead or something Leia would surely feel her through the force as soon as she arrived. I agree.. I highly doubt a lineage twist. There were already too many accusations of TFA being to much like ANH. I dont see it happening.

100% agree. In fact, I'd argue that going with the most obvious thing - at least, from the majority's perspective exiting TFA for the first time - would be the smartest decision in this film, as it would lull the audience into a complete sense of security.

"Wow, THAT was supposed to be THE twist?"

And then BAM you find out about what really happened with Ben's fall and Luke's academy, and then BAM Luke doesn't turn out to be this perfect legendary character, in fact turning out to be a deeply flawed father, and then BAM Finn turns out to be a sleeper agent (explaining a lot of his actions in TFA and why someone trained from birth could change sides so easily), and then BAM there's some shady stuff going on in the upper echelons of the remainder of the New Republic, and then BAM holy smokes so that is why Luke went into hiding, and then BAM Snoke really is Jar Jar, etc.

Telegraphing a reveal of Rey's lineage as they have is the exact opposite of what you do if it was at all considered a twist.

Rey being a Solo or Skywalker are both snoozers to me though.

There are only so many stories and so many outcomes. You have to look at the journey not the destination. A great story about Rey Skywalker is superior to an ok story abotu Rey Smith.

I've already heard 2 about Skywalker kids and I'm already hearing about another one who went bad. I'm good on those thanks but you are entitled to your opinion.

I'd argue that a great story is a great story regardless of name, but I do see where you're coming from; as I said above, I believe the film - and the trilogy and saga as a whole - has much more to gain from Rey being a Skywalker as opposed to being a Rey Random, as it adds simplicity and a clear lineage throughout the saga (same could be argued for Kylo serving as a Skywalker, of course).

Maybe TLJ could end on a cliffhanger involving Leia to set up IX for Trevorrow like VII ended with a cliffhanger to set up Luke for VIII.

VII (Han) -> Rey cliffhanger (Luke) -> VIII (Luke*) -> Rey cliffhanger (Leia) -> IX (Leia**)

Rey finding out that Kylo Ren is her brother (and thus Leia is her mother) and then Leia getting captured by the FO from Crait or wherever in the last act to set up IX as it all goes to hell. The movie is supposed to leave the audience with more questions after answering some from the previous movie (TFA).

Leia ending up being a prisoner of the FO is probably one of the easiest ways to write her out of the story in IX when Trevorrow had to redo it after Fisher's death. Like Han Solo being frozen in carbonite in Episode V. If Ford didn't come back, they could've ended Han there.

Episode IX could have opened with a rescue mission like Episode III and VI do since they are not avoiding rhyming. Or Episode VIII could end on a rescue mission.

    * Rian Johnson: “Figuring out where [Luke’s] head was at was the very first thing I had to do when writing the movie. I had to crack this. And it had to be something for me that first and foremost made sense. Why did Luke Skywalker go off to this island? That was the starting point, and that’s what the entire movie explores.” “I didn’t want it to [be that Luke is a coward]. There has to be a good reason that makes sense to him — and to some degree makes sense to us.” (May 4, 2017)

** Colin Trevorrow: “I can’t [say] too many specifics, but [Leia] was really where I began when I started thinking what this story [of Episode IX] was gonna be. It was about her in a lot of ways. Obviously, you know, Rey is the hero and that’s the character who we’re tracking through these films but each one of them has had a character from the earlier trilogy who’s really been the keystone of the film and she was going to be. So it was very tragic and very sad for all of us beyond just the fact that we lost somebody that we all love. And it’s my responsibility now to find a way to honor her and keep her soul and her presence in the film without…without Carrie. It’s very sad.” (June 8, 2017)

StarWars.com databank: "A mysterious connection seemed to link the two [Kylo Ren and Rey]." "[Rey] shared a strange connection [with Kylo Ren]."

'Rey' Solo most fits the structure of the original trilogy.

siblings (male protagonist) - parents (male Skywalker) - mentor
    [IMG]
siblings (female protagonist) - parents (female Skywalker) - mentor

Just to scratch some of the surface.

Kind of funny your idea of an original story is basing it on the Solo's......

But write whatever original story you would do about X Jedi in the new order that Rey founded. Then auto-replace the last name in the script. Any story you can tell about any other character you can tell about a Skywalker. The name itself doesn't limit your storytelling options.

What story can you tell about a non-skywalker you cnan't a skywalker?

    I'd really like this.

Han's legacy would continue, with Rey piloting the Falcon after him next to Chewie. She would be a Skywalker, because she would be the granddaughter of Vader. George Lucas would be happy to see his vision of the two grandchildren of Vader come to life as he envisaged for in Star Wars lore. I'd be happy and really connect to this. It would be a twist, since it seems implausible at many levels. The legacy goes from grandmother, mother and daughter, as the OP said. The main conflict would be between brothers, which keeps the family love-hate conflict situation like was between Vader and Luke. Have I mentioned that I'd like that? ;)

Now, the only thing left to do is explain how that happened. How did the Falcon and Rey ended up in the same planet from the other possible 50 million inhabited systems of the Star Wars galaxy?

I'm sure that the Lucasfilm Story Group can figure out a way to make this happen. Of course, I totally understand this would not be the ideal scenario for many people, but I guess no scenario would ever please everyone the same. We must trust in Lucasfilm and Rian to offer us a satisfying scenario, whatever it is. But, I'd really love for Rey to be Leia's child.

"What I found funny is that I was the child and people were so presumptuous and all like, 'You're Han Solo's daughter!!' and I'm like, how do you know? Have you seen the film? Clearly not, because I wasn't. That was a funny one."

So even Daisy Ridley doesn't know she's Han's daughter?

Notice how she never talks about other parentage theories this way, calling people "presumptuous" and implying they never watched the film properly. Daisy cares about her fans deeply and wouldn't try to hurt their feelings unless the theory was really dead in the water.

And for people who think "she can be Leia's daughter but without Han":

She's NDA'ed up the wazoo and was only referring that TFA didn't spell out Rey's parentage to the audience. It was before TFA came out that people were asking/telling her if she was Han and Leia's daughter, not after the movie, so people then hadn't seen a movie for which to derive any thought about yet. She was asked what the hardest secret to keep was and this is where her mind immediately went. It immediately went there because it's the secret that she has to keep for the longest out of all the secrets and she still is until it's revealed in a movie.

Remember the first cast photo in april 2014 and Daisy between Ford and Fisher ? That's where the "Rey Solo theory" begun because "she's between them, so she's the daugter of Leia and Han", if Rey is really the daughter of Han and Leia what's the point of "revealing" this on the first cast photo with the placement of the actors ?

For example Adam Driver/Ben Solo is not between/near Ford and Fisher because it could spoil the TFA reveal.

A reaction to the cast announcement in April 2014 immediately after the release of the photo (in French):

"Daisy Ridley is probably the daughter of Han and Leia, she's between them" April 29 2014

you seriously think JJ Abrams master of the "mystery box" would accidentally spoil one of the big parentage reveal of the trilogy on the first ever official photo of the movie with the placement of the actors ?

Rey ( name derived from the Greek goddes Rhea ,btw) is biggest secret, hidden from most powerful darksider in the galaxy , one that sees trough everything, Snoke.

Only Leia knows, and can't tell, particularily in a TFA moment , after Leia and Rey met and hug ,since its just after Rey has sough Armagedon of its family, her father Han been killed by her own brother Ben, who she thinks is a monster. Revelation about Rey's lineage will destruct Rey in that moment.

Jet R2-D2 awakes "mysteriously" after Rey come to Reistance base for the first time. And map to Luke gets completed.

Leia emediately sends Rey, who just came from "nowhere" and is "nobody" for Leia-to go to Luke. So Rey didn't came from nowhere for Leia, and isn't nobody for Leia.

But someone who must be send emediately to Luke! Only her!(and Chewy...wait for this)

Spies are everywhere, and Snoke sees trough everything.Lea knows it.

Han didn't know anything about their second child, for reason.

Snoke, somehow senses everything where Han is and what he is doing. But he could'nt sense Rey, he didn't knew she exists at all.

I even speculated for myself something radical, In the Aftermath : Life Debt novel, Chewbacca has unwillingly became tracking device, Empire installed in him biochip ( in him and many prisoners held in prison Ashmead's lock). Is Chewbacca still a living tracking device?

Maybe that is how Snoke knew so much, this is to be seen.

In any way, Leia knew if she tells to Han, Snoke will know it, instantly.

Force and our hearts will be with you Leia, Always.

Snoke doesn't sense anything at all about Han in TFA or anywhere else.
Bala-Tik told him where BB-8 was (and he happened to be with Han at the time).

I am talking in this case not about Snoke's Force sense, but about possiblity that First Order has ability to track movement of Chewbacca.

Chewbaca got imprisoned decades ago in Achmead's Lock where he has been implanted advanced biochip, this is fact. We have no any confirmation this biochip has been removed, so Chewy is in theory tracked by inteligence office that continued work of ISB ( imperial inteligence), and that would be First Order.

If rumors from TLJ are true, and that is that First Order strikes secret base of the resistance, and more curiously Kylo lands with strike team of his knights of Ren on Ahch-to,that points out that Snoke has ability to gather information, and Chewy was in both places.

This is my speculation though, I am just almost 100 % sure Rey is Leia's daughter, because it simply fills gap in perfect equation.

My idea of a new story is basing it on a new main character who isn't attached to one of the same characters we have seen for the previous 6 movies. Its been six movies already with someone being someone else's son/daughter and 7 if you count Kylo now too. The idea of "passing the torch" to me goes further than just bringing in new young actors because the old ones aren't going to be around much longer. It's introducing an actual NEW main character for us to become attached to and not because they are using the crutch of her being another characters offspring. When I say new I mean NEW. The way Luke was new to us when we first saw ANH. His name meant nothing to us and eventually became very important to us. That is the sign of a good story.

The best way I can explain this to people who don't seem to understand is, put up a poll on here and ask who everyone's favorite SW character is. I bet Luke is an overwhelming favorite because of our nostalgia for the OT and the OT movies being the first ones we saw and then his eventual development through the story. But guess what? When we saw the OT there was never a term "skywalker saga". No one knew it was going to be about his family. It was the start of a characters story that would end up becoming his families story. Rey can be the same way. The start of a new saga that gets the torched passed to it literally from Luke Skywalker himself. Her saga ends the current one and begins a new. You cant tell that story about a Skywalker. You cant pass a torch to someone who ISNT a Skywalker to a Skywalker. You CAN continue the story with a Skywalker but that isn't passing the torch in the sense that I would like to see. Thats just passing to ANOTHER generation of the same family. There will always be that Skywalker crutch there. To me, that's what the Skywalker name is. A crutch. We will see if LFL/Disney has the balls to let Rey walk without it. I think they do. THAT IS MY OPINION.
