Some very exciting news from 2019 London MCM Comic Con thanks to Bleeding Cool! In my best Lando impersonation...I told you they'd do it! Looks we are getting more Doctor Aphra! Fans of the interstellar archaeologist have been anxiously awaiting any news about the doctor's future since it was recently announced the series launched by Kieron Gillen (currently helmed by Simon Spurrier) would be winding down. News from London says a new Doctor Aphra series will start up in 2020. And that's not all. The Dark Lord of the Sith can never stay gone too long and Darth Vader will return in 2020, as well, marking the third iteration of the series (the first helmed by Kieron Gillen, the second by Charles Soule).

Writer Alyssa Wong and artist Marika Cresta will be taking the reigns of the new Aphra, set to debut in April. No other details, but if I had to guess, we'll be seeing Aphra post The Empire Strikes Back, since the titular Star Wars is moving beyond the time gap between it and A New Hope. Personally, I'd love them to go even further, assuming the good doctor survives beyond Return of the Jedi. It's also very exciting this title will finally be helmed by a female writer, something I've thought was long overdue for this series. Don't get me wrong, Gillen and Spurrier have done a great job, but I really think Doctor Aphra could use some writing from the feminine perspective. Aphra fans should be thrilled writer Alyssa Wong, a Nebula Award nominee, will be taking the doctor on new adventures. Doctor Aphra launches in April 2020.

Hope you aren't tired of Darth Vader because it looks like the Dark Lord of the Sith is headed back to a comic book store near you in February 2020. Writer Greg Pak (Star Wars, Age of Rebellion) takes over the new Vader series and I'll make a guess this takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. That's about the only gap of time where we don't really know what Vader was up to. Judging from the exchange between he and the Emperor in Return of the Jedi, Vader had other priorities than searching for Luke, as the Emperor acknowledges sensing the Sith Lord wishes to continue looking for his son. It should be interesting to see what Vader did after his failure to recruit Luke, as we know from both Darth Vader series became his primary goal leading to their encounter on Bespin. No artist was announced, but writer Greg Pak is no stranger to Star Wars, so I'm excited to see what he does.

We'll keep a lookout for any more announcements over the weekend. I have to imagine there are some big things Marvel has in the works for Star Wars.
