Has this video really been out for almost a year? Man, time flies.

Personally, I don’t get the hype behind it. Like sure, it looks cool and all, but everything is just way too overdone in my opinion. (Like the majority of lightsaber duels in the prequels or fan films like this one.) The duel in the actual film hasn’t aged as well as either of the other duels from the Original Trilogy but this one is way too flashy and over-the-top for my taste. (I’ll admit that my opinion might be a bit tainted by the fact that the Original Trilogy are practically perfect movies in my eyes and nothing in them should be tampered with.)

I guess I just find two old men clumsily fighting to be more charming than more exciting stuff like this. That’s part of the charm of older movies in my eyes; they may look dated but they’re a time capsule of what was possible back then!

Still, I have to give the creator(s) of this video credit for the amazing quality of this production. It looks close to film quality!

I just like it because it seems consistent with the Vader’s style, being heavy strikes that aren’t too fast.

I'm an admirer for fan projects. A lot of passion went into this, you can clearly thell this, but it's not for me. There are several reasons for this:

    1) I'm not a fan of OP force powers and over-stylized lightsaber fights and VFX.

    2) Adding all the dialog is a nice touch, but not really good for the scene. I'm more fan of actual talking. Furthermore it would have been interesting to take these line and history between Vader and Kenobi and create an actual moment, rather than just putting them in the short as voice overs.

    3) The combination of new footage and actual movie footage doesn't really work.

    4) fancy lightsaber fights may look cool and stuff, but I always prefered lightsaber fights which are more grounded. For me lightsaber fights are about conversation and conflict. This is the reason why my personal favorite duels are 'Luke vs Vader' (ROTJ), 'Dooku vs Anakin' (ROTS), 'Kylo vs Rey' (TFA.

I find this a very good effort, with tons of love having gone into it. And for the most part, it works really well; the echoes of the RotS are excellently done and helps heighten the event, making it a powerful moment in the in-universe history. And, with the strong attention to detail (mannerisms & movmements) this re-imagining sure helps strengthen consistency in the characters (after the PT went a little wild with them, IMHO). That said, it does suffer a bit from spectacle-for-the-sake-of-spectacle here and there -- the Vader on fire bit should've been entirelly cut, for instance.

All in all, a great fan effort, with its greatest strength being the dramatic editing and splicing in memories of the RotS climax; good job! :)

(PS: The sentiment that this clip ought to be cut into future releases of ANH is, of course, complete madness! heh heh, people are weird :p )

    Preach it.
The flashier lightsaber fights get, they lose their tension.
It becomes too choreographed to the point of almost being boring.

There's some tension between Obi-Wan and Vader where neither want to commit to it.
Obi-Wan knows he probably dies here. Vader knows last time they fought Obi-Wan took his limbs.

With the extra choreography, you lose that. It becomes just another fight.

It's my problem with the John Wick movies after the first one. Things just get so grandiose for a fight it doesn't really work.

I love my superhero movies but there are times where my eyes glaze over in overdrawn fights.

Very well done. They should do this with many old scenes but tad more professionally.

Well, it's a fan film so you'll have to judge it as such. It tries hard and is pretty decent, I would say, but it is obviously not of professional quality. Someone out there ought to be proud of their fan film :)
