The cast and crew of The Acolyte are putting a lot of importance in their lightsaber fights, it seems. Dafne Keen has gone on record saying they wanted to film a lightsaber duel that was superior to the 'Duel of the Fates' fight sequence between Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Keen stated her belief that it was the 'most iconic' lightsaber fight in the saga, though the prequel trilogy is littered with stunningly choreographed fight sequences (the climactic fight in Revenge of the Sith would probably like a word with her).

An interesting point that Dafne Keen made was that the lightsaber duels seemed to be based on character -- the way each person fights feels unique to their personality -- which should hopefully create some memorable fight scenes.

The young actress also revealed she had a similar problem to young Ewan McGregor when he first filmed The Phantom Menace, in that she found herself accidentally making the lightsaber sounds with her mouth while filming.

It's one thing to promise incredible lightsaber fights, but it's quite another to pull it off. Here's hoping The Acolyte delivers on those promises when it releases on June 4.

Theoretically, the Jedi near the top of their game should be able to pull off some truly amazing stuff. In practice - we shall see. It is still on a tv-show budget.

During the High Republic era, lightsabers were almost entirely used for exhibiting the grace and history of the Jedi. That also accounts for the ornate and extravagant hilts and probably the wide variety of blade colors. The books show a lot of sparring and practice, but almost zero actual saber to saber dueling simply because there were no Dark side baddies with lightsabers. That would easily explain the more choreographed and flowing fighting styles. There is also a big focus on how each individual Jedi "sees" the Force and uses it, so individuality was a big deal and makes total sense in how Keen describes the characters' fighting styles.

If I'm not mistaken, the stunt coordinator that did the lightsaber training here is the same one that worked on Ahsoka and the fight sequences have been a major point of focus for Headland from the beginning. I do not see how a TV budget would have any impact on the end result.
