Chewie not killing Kylo Ren

I think its a combo of being distraught and distance that altered his shot. I don't think Kylo being Han's son played into it as much since Han and Chewie are like PB & J

 

If Chewie killed Kylo, then Episode VII ends rather suddenly. And VIII doesnt get made. Or IX.

 

His aim was off. Nothing more, nothing less.

 

He did pretty good considering the distance!

 

i figured he flipped a switch and just starting shooting bad guys one by one. he hit Ben, Ben fell down, and Chewie went on to the next.

I think it’s a inconsistency in the attempt keep Kylo alive.
Chewie’s life debt would have demanded he kill Kylo or die trying. Regardless of any promess he made to Han.
And before anyone bring up the carbonite chamber In empire, that only had a chance of killing Han. If it had Chewie would have went full berserker on Vader!!
This yet another slam to the characters beliefs and Lore from the old Trilogy.

 

I think Chewie was so shocked then Pissed and adrenaline was just rushing at that point. I mean he had to have been stunned into action by seeing his bestfriend Just gone ... like that.
I think he shot to The side just a tad, RIGHT BEFORE he pulled the trigger. Chewie could have killed Kylo, but didn't.

 

I remember reading that Kylo used the force to protect himself from that shot.

Personally, I love the reasoning that Chewie just couldn't kill Han's son and chose to simply slow him down, because perhaps they had some kind of bond in the past. From what we know, Chewie didn't hang around the Solos that much after the defeat of the Empire, but, well... Vacation of Kashyyyk? Why not. Chewie having no connection with Ben Solo whatsoever is a stretch. Doesn't seem like that would happen.

 

I always got the impression he threw away a shot and just missed.

 

He didn't miss, it was a good shot that would have killed anyone else. I don't think Chewbacca ever focused on getting someone right in the chest, head or some other vital area, that weapon was deadly no matter where it hit. And it annoys me that we don't get to see its effect on Kylo in TLJ. He should have had a giant scar, mangled flesh in the middle and other smaller scars all around it. I don't care how strong with the force he is, his internal organs should have been damaged and his ribs should have been broken from the force of the impact alone. Not to mention what the muscle should have looked like. His left side should have been a complete mess. But all we got was a pale white scar, like there wasn't a hole there before. What, were they afraid that he wouldn't look "pretty" enough shirtless? "Yeah let's put an obvious scar on his face but let's keep the rest of his body flawless., we can't make a bowcaster scar look decorative so let's keep that one subtle". They cared more about what he looked like than about what happened to him. Did a group of teenage girls decide what he was going to look like? Eyeroll.

 

Why do you think Kylo Ren wore high-waisted pants in that scene? His face scar is sexy, the one caused by Chewie's shot - not so much.

 

i refuse to go look for the picture, but the scar is visible above the waistline. : o p

That was just my point. Why do all his scars have to look good? Why is that more important than his body actually reflecting his past experiences? Which as it happens, were a big deal at the time. And it would have been just a scar, not his guts hanging out or something else that would have scared the hell out of Rey and the audience. But no, they had to keep him looking flawless because apparently he's this trilogy's metal bikini Leia.

 

this is why i strongly object to that scene. i don't think he needed to be shirtless for the scene to have worked, but they went full metal bikini with it.

i don't think the high-waisted pants have anything to do with anything; he has scars, they show, they're deliberately not ugly and we all know why (same reason they probably spent a gazillion credits on his hair products).

it was pretty much guaranteed that if they shaved his head and disfigured him in TLJ then he'd be the villain everyone thought he should have been since before TFA.
