Amidst a slew of announcements for May 4th, Lucasfilm also announced the release of a new Star Wars 'board' game inspired by the in-universe game of dejarik, complete with holotable and light-up pieces. Officially named, The Star Wars: Galactic Archive Series Dejarik Board Game, the set arrives May 4 at Disney Parks and online at the Disney Store.

The set comes complete with eight specially-designed pieces — the Ghhhk, the Molator, the Houjix, the Kintan strider, the K'lor'slug, the Mantellian Savrip, the Monnok, and the Ng'ok. Each figure is made from a clear plastic that lights up when placed on the board to simulate holo play, illuminated through conductive power.

Cody Hampton, Senior Manager of Merchandising, commented on the game's release:

Seems I'm not the only fan who holds a special love for dejarik. Merchandising Manager of Toys, Amanda Rubinos Luna, spoke about staying true to the game's original appearance in A New Hope by using actual sculpts from Lucasfilm Archives:

Right now, details are pretty thin on the ground for this game. I'm very curious to learn what the actual gameplay is like, but I imagine it will be a simplified version of chess, given that it's aimed at ages 8 and up. Likewise, there is no listed price yet, but of course, this will all be revealed tomorrow when the game is officially posted for sale. I appreciate that they put the effort into making the pieces light up, and the table generate creature sounds, which are both key features of the game onscreen.

What do you think? Will you add this game to your Star Wars collection? Let us know your thoughts!
