I just saw something on the new trailer, i don't know if you guys noticed yet but...
That person who is holding the lightsaber, you can barely see his face (on the top right corner), it's like an alien face, or a mask maybe. What do you think..?

 

I'm still holding out hope Lupita will be a sith. Lol.

Everytime I see the picture of the alien handing Leia the saber, I imagine the alien accidentally switches the saber on....hi jinks ensue...cue Leia's funeral pyre. Nothing against Leia, it's just the way it's angled.

Just showed my grandpa both the trailers, since I forgot to before. Love sharing the excitement with him. He's a big Star Wars fan too. He was telling me about how him and my grandma were at a movie in '76 or '77 and saw the trailer for Star Wars, and my grandma said 'Oh, not another space movie..', considering they mostly were low quality of just boring back then. Little did anyone know it would become such a big hit. The movie they saw was called Grizzly, which nobody's even really heard of nowadays, lol. Crazy how many generations have, and will have, the opportunity to fall in love with Star Wars..

 

Maybe when he stops playing counter espionage and doesn't leak false information to places (such as this site) in order to discredit them.

You know what's weird? I went back and watched the first 6 Star Trek movies, and despite ILM and Skywalker sound being involved, those movies are horrendously low grade....we're their budgets REALLY that low? And they've put out, including the reboots....what? 11 or 12 of those? Some of the ones focusing on the TNG in the 90s are STILL lesser quality than the OT. How is that possible?

 

They're working on 13 right now. Should start production in Summer or Fall.
I actually enjoy all of Star Trek. But you're absolutely right, the effects gap between Wars and Trek is oddly large.. I think the effects since the first TNG movie have all been great. But why, even with ILM, would Trek have such lower quality effects??

 

I think it starts with the first one...Motion Picture...

It came out in 1979 and the vast majority of it is a....long shot, no dialogue, show off "cutting edge graffiti for "VGER"...but it still didn't look as good as Star Wars, which is bizarre for a franchise like that.

The story lines are...generally...for what it is...pretty good, but most of that comes from the fact that Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, etc are iconic figures that you can't help but like. I'll throw in that Jean Luc Piccard is like that, but the rest of it doesn't work...it's too...90s?

This brings me to the point. JJ Abrams is very good at what he does. There's about to be a 5th Mission Impossible and sti the best one is MI3 because he knows how to cast and build tension. Phillip Seymour Hoffman? My god...so good. And Star Trek? Karl Urban is a PERFECT Bones. I never thought that could be possible, because DeForestt Kelly is so good, but my God. And consider Chris Pine...he's basically a Han/Luke/Kirk amalgamation.

Do you guys realize the biggest criticism about his Star Trek movies?

That's accurate, and I think this is going to be great. I truly hope he's able to direct IX and/or X.

100% agree.

They really could not have picked a better person to hand over control of VII, and, unless VII somehow ends up not becoming my new favorite (at least until the rest come out) and sucks, I'm really glad he's still involved with VIII.

 

I hope it's before 18/12/15 that might be a bit cruel.

 

Before Redlettermedia hit it big with their prequel reviews they reviewed the next gen movies. They are hilarious. You should check them out.

The more I see that shot of Rose's face, the more I wonder if they are going to add some CGI or mo-cap to it.. it looks kind of half finished as far as details go. If they do, thats a dream come true to me. I've always said the best thing is to do things old school then enhance it slightly with CGI (like adding blinks and such)

 

So...this might be in another thread but I'm so bored I don't even care (and it IS speculative...)-what do we think/know happens to Poe after he and Finn get back to Jakku on the TIE? I mean he didn't seem to be with Finn and Rey in the trailer so...yeah.
