SPECULATION Lor San Tekka (Max Von Sydow's Character).

I have a very strong feeling MvS's character name isn't listed because his character doesn't have a name.

 

I think he does in fact have a name, and revealing it is part of the mystery box, like Luke's whereabouts, Snoke's appearance, etc.

It will be a character that is familiar, otherwise, there would be nothing to gain by not revealing it. Probably not a major character, but someone that will act as a bridge at the beginning of the film.

 

If that's the case, which I think it is, it's a pretty big coincidence that he's on Jakku with Rey. Like @Cochese71 I'm leaning a bit toward Wedge Antilles. For one thing, he would have been at the battle of Jakku, so at least he knows about the place. He's connected with the OT. And he'd make a good custodian of Rey for either Luke or Leia. Further, one of the men who played Wedge was approached about portraying him again in TFA, and turned it down.

That is true. But with a little artistic license- who knows? Earlier rumors of the MVS character suggested he had injuries and even prostheses due to fighting for so long. War ages a man.

 

Concept art of MVS shows him sitting in his hut and being an old guy like Max. The staff here on this site has seen a picture of him and based on there description it seems he is old. @Pomojema can give a description of it as I believe he has seen it.

MVS as Wedge was just tossing a dart out there. I was thinking IF Rey was Luke's daughter and he had to leave her with somebody it would be with someone he was close to and trusted. I couldn't think of anyone else in the OT that Luke hung out with that was still alive besides the main characters. So I thought of Wedge. You would think he would be a commander or something by the time of TFA but the actor turned the role down. I know the age is off but thought it would be a funny way to kill of that character and at the same time a little Blast it shot to Denis Lawson from Disney.

My money's still on him being Kanan - looks like MvS, has experience mentoring orphaned kids on sandy planets, but isn't the full Jedi and 80+ so not tough enough to beat Kylo. Dying a hero giving Poe and BB-8 time to escape would be a good end for the character and a form of redemption following the guilt he felt over not saving his master at the time of Order 66.

if you look at that scar on his head it looks very much in the same place as Lobot. I saw once poster on reddit of all places write his name as Lo(r) san (without) Tekka (tech).

I acknowledge that it's a long shot but it would explain who found Anakin/Luke's lightsaber on Cloud City. Someone that Luke orbeven Han would trust to watch over their daughter if that is indeed who Rey turns out to be.

 

Looking closely at this pic the object Lor San Tekka is giving Poe is fairly large. It fills up his palm. There definitely is a string coming from it. If it is the saber, it might be in some sort of box or bag. I guess we just have to wait and see

J.J. was spot on with bringing someone with his stature to this (what seems to be) important plot point in this scene. He is perfect for this role and frankly I can't get enough of him. Of course, I am partial to him because I am a big 1984 Dune film fan. IMHO, he was epic in that as well.!
