Ahh I was literally about to post this myself (!) Yeah I find it very interesting...they way I took it for myself is that it's almost as if the darkness within Ben, who is still inside of her, is reaching into her mind because of the potential darkness within him

I know! First time I read it, I got tears - sorry, big Han/Leia fan here and as @FN-3263827 says, I'm looking forward to read anything from post-ROTJ period lol.

Got chills myself!!! I know from the first Aftermath book, the interlude where Chewie and Han went to Kashyyyk and that Chewie is captured and Han is lost from this book description. I know it will mostly be Noora, Mr. Bones and the gang, but even still, I bet it will be a fun ride.

Rae Sloane is back as well. I liked that character, as far as having someone from the imperial side. Shows up in other material as well. http://www.blastr.com/2016-6-16/star-wars’-rae-sloane-imperial-backbone-you’ve-been-waiting

I remember I read that interlude several times and then when I read the description of "Aftermath: Life Debt" I got more excited about it! Actually I suspected there was a good reason why Leia herself didn't go to rescue Han, and suspected that reason had to do something with Little Ben.

Excellent article. Although some might say that using a character through several works makes the galaxy feel small, I reckon with Rae they are doing a really good job by portraying a Empire agent who follows her sense of justice, though her convictions take her to work with the evil Empire. I enjoyed having her in "A New Dawn" and "Aftermath", haven't gotten to read "Lords of the Sith" yet but it sounds like a good choice.

New Dawn was enjoyable, if you like the Rebels characters. Lords of the Sith has ties to Rebels as well.

Whoa, that's a great excerpt! I cannot wait. I am one of those who liked Aftermath a lot and more after the second reading (in preparation for the sequel). This excerpt is making me even more excited. A few more weeks... :)

I'm as excited for LD as the next guy, but something about the excerpt kind of rubbed me the wrong way. The line that Leia is "angry" with Han can be explained away by assuming it regards some event that happens within the novel itself (and not due to him gallivanting around the galaxy, which Bloodline implies happens MUCH later), but the line about Luke "leaving" her and "the loss of Luke" implies that he adopts his solitary lifestyle pretty quickly after RotJ.

Since this occurs before the academy massacre, are we to assume that he disappears, reappears, begins rebuilding the Jedi, goes First Jedi Temple hunting with Ben (again, established by Bloodlines), then disappears once again after the massacre?

In the end, I'm sure it can be canonically explained without much issue. However, leaving Leia and the galactic spotlight at least twice implies that Luke generally becomes a reclusive character following RotJ (and not within 6 years prior to TFA, which would seem much more reasonable). It's probably my nostalgia for Legends getting in the way of my objectivity here, but that whole notion just bothers me. By the end of RotJ, Luke seems to care too much about his friends and the the rebel ideology to wander off at the first opportunity. Leaving due to guilt over his nephew's turn or protecting his friends prior to TFA, I understand. This excerpt's implication, I do not.

Another possible explanation is that Leia could simply be referring to "the loss of Luke" as him going off to start his new Jedi Order. However, the connotation of "loss" and "leaving" seems to imply otherwise. Leia seems to harbor some underlying anger towards Luke leaving, and I would like to think that if he were simply rebuilding the Jedi that she would understand.

Other than that, it was a quality excerpt. Love the fact that Ben is a catalyst for Leia's connection to the Force.

From the "Aftermath" book, we learn that Han is doing still work for the Rebellion (Interlude: Hyperspace) and that he goes on a mission to free Kashyyyk with Chewie. It seems it was a trap and he goes missing, that is why Leia asks Norra Wexley and her team to go on a rescue mission. When I read that summary, I wonder why Leia and Luke would not go after him, but this excerpt confirms my suspicions of her being already pregnant. About Luke, I don't know if he is still working with the Rebel Alliance/New Republic but the last we knew of him post-ROTJ was his missions with Shara Bey to get the Force trees. So we don't know if he already cut ties with the Rebellion and went ahead to start his Jedi Order or whatnot.

What bugs me a little is what she mentions about Mon Mothma. Did she ask support for a full rescue crew to go look for Han? Once before Mon Mothma (Star Wars comics) reluctantly didn't approve a rescue mission for Luke in Nar Shaddaa but fortunately both the Millennium Falcon and Chewie were around to go rescue Luke (plus Leia made a deal with Sana Starros to go to Luke's aid, too).

Her anger towards Han could be also due to his impulsive decision to go free Chewie's planet without requesting permission from the Rebellion. Maybe he didn't know yet Ben was on his way. Maybe he thought it would be an easy mission. Many things we don't know yet!

Yeah, took the anger as going off orders and being reckless and just not being there. It's natural. The Mon Mothma thing puzzled me too, I wonder what is up with that. The little message we get from Bloodline, is just that she is too ill or old to perform any duties and her message of support and saying she suspected about the whole Vader thing (probably from having known Padme and Bail Organa back in the day).

This is just a guess here. This might be alluding to when Mon Mothma wanted to shrink the New Republic's military since some or maybe even a lot of people thought the war was close to over after the deaths of Vader and Palps. I'm sure Leia fought to keep the military strong and Mothma wanted the opposite. Maybe that is where Leia felt betrayed?

'Bloodline' confirms that he has been out of the spotlight for a long time, travelling round looking for Jedi lore, to the extent that he's almost more myth than man to a lot of people. So his reclusiveness does predate the fall of his academy.
