Steven Knight has been working on a new Star Wars movie for over a year, and though the process is far from complete, he's finally discussing it publicly. The story will be set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, as announced a year ago at Star Wars Celebration London, and will feature Daisy Ridley back as Rey Skywalker. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct.

Knight is currently out promoting the BBC One series This Town, which wrapped its first season recently. Speaking to NME, the Oscar-nominated writer said the following when asked what he can share about his Star Wars venture, New Jedi Order:

Knight has been revising his script for a while, and has likely already turned in multiple drafts to Lucasfilm. Daisy Ridley is thought to have read it already, too. That doesn't mean it's finished yet, though, but with Knight soon moving on to prep the Peaky Blinders film that will shoot in September, he's probably close to putting the final touches on the writing.

A filming start date hasn't been announced yet, but Disney and Lucasfilm probably want it to go up before the end of the year, or Q1 2025 by the latest. With The Mandalorian & Grogu officially set for May 22, 2026, it's just a matter of time before they set this movie for Dec. 18, 2026. Early pre-production, including conversations with potential candidates for the lead roles or casting calls for the main characters, may very well be underway already. One of the challenges Lucasfilm and Disney are facing right now is booking sound stages, as there is a lot of demand following last year's industry stoppage. The plan is to shoot in London.

Stay tuned for more details on New Jedi Order as they come out.

Haven't heard anything about supporting cast apart from Angela.
