Picking nits - why didn't Finn just use the other cannon turret?

Great question. I finished looking and reading through the Visual Dictionary last night at Barnes and Noble. It is so cool and has so many answers and details to the situation and world of the new movie. Highly recommended to anyone. Anyway, it actually mentions this point, of all things. It agrees and says that Rey is not used to nor suited for this kind of weather, even moreso in those clothes. It says that as uncomfortable as she feels, she goes into survival mode and toughs it out for the sake of her friends and mission. We don't technically know it if got cold at night on Jakku, but surely it never got close to that cold! Anyway, Finn apparently gives Rey his jacket after they've gone out for a bit, in that deleted scene where they steal a snow speeder and distract some troopers while Han and Chewie go back in to place the detonators. She is shown wearing it when Rey and Finn goes back into the base and sees Han approaching Kylo. Now, even after seeing it 5-6 times, I can't remember how Finn has the jacket back and Rey is without it once they go back outside and then face Kylo. Of course by then, adrenaline must be pumping and they are warmer from all the running and shooting and emotional anger of Han and Kylo's deal.

So, long story short, not a great answer there, just that as a scavenger and survivalist, Rey toughed it out and got a jacket for a little while. But yes, it was one of those details that was important enough for the Visual Dictionary to show a picture of and mention! It also spent a lot of time on the special gear that the First Order snow troopers wear, including body warmers and heat insulators in their suits. Rey and Finn should have taken a suit off a snow trooper if they battled any. Of course, that would be just one more comparison to Han and Luke doing the same in the ANH rescue scene! Anyway, I love that Visual Dictionary. Fills in so many world building questions and such that the movie doesn't get too and really makes things come alive even more once you look through it.

 

You can see Rey giving the jacket back to Finn or him putting it back on or something like that before the Kylo-Han scene...

 

Yes, thanks! Ironically, I just saw the same thing while watching that new visual effects sizzle reel, thinking, there's my answer! Sadly, I think it would have been much nicer and more in character for Finn to keep letting Rey wear it, especially when they went back out there, even though they were totally distraught by Han's scene and hastily climbing back down the high ladder to get back to the falcon (which explains for so many people why Kylo at ground level could have beaten them out there) as the explosions started to happen. In the end, I guess the filmmakers really wanted to have Finn wearing the jacket (and Rey in her scavenger garb) during the Kylo fight. I can see that.

 

For Finn, yes, but Rey is the girl who complained about him grabbing her hand, so maybe not in character for her...

 

Back to the turret. Y pic the bottom 1 in the 1st place if flying lo. The top is mor pratical.

Running, adrenaline...it all helps. She's never moving slowly or just standing around until Kylo KO's her on the tree.
She's running around or fighting. No time to get cold!

 

Man, with Rey at the controls he could have been killed just getting unstrapped lol
