I thought that at first too, but then I am also pretty sure that's how Obi-Wan got himself and her off of Mustafar leaving Vader behind. So I'm not sure how he would have obtained it.

He might have one like hers for the nostalgia of it though - being like the ship he first left Tatooine in and the ship they were flying when the lovers went to save Obi-Wan on Geonosis.

The most exciting thing to me in this issue was Doctor Cylo-IV. I mean what the hell kind of name is that? Not to mention he is transporting alien organs AND hes a cyborg? What stands out to me the most about him is the number IV, as if to say this guy is the 4th iteration of a Doctor Cylo. Now that name is so close to Kylo it cant be a mistake. If it is then the people in the Continuity Department over at Disney/Lucas Film are off to a bad start. I'm hoping it's deliberate.
My mind immediate jumps to Joruus C'baoth and Luuke Skywalker clones from the Thrawn trilogy. The simple pronunciation errors found in the names of clones of the Jedi. Could it be that Kylo Ren is another iteration, or variation of what ever the Doctor is working on for the Emperor? they could be working on creating some sort of dark side being, more powerful than Anakin that can replace him. Or perhaps a host body for the Emperor? And that might just be who our Kylo Ren Character is. Some forgotten creation of the Emperor that was meant to take down Vader. Hes been alone and broken for 30 years and now... who knows what! I also did a quick search on Google for "Ren" the only thing of any significance was this entry on Wikipedia:

"Ren (or Rén) (Chinese: 仁; pinyin: rén; Wade–Giles: jen) is the Confucian virtue denoting the good feeling a virtuous human experiences when being altruistic. 仁 is exemplified by a normal adult's protective feelings for children. It is considered the outward expression of Confucian ideals."

I know I'm reaching here but this series really feels like its giving clues to TFA, and I'm starting to believe that Vader will be present in the movie in some manner, more than just being talked about!

We saw at least three different Nubian starships in the prequels. The ship Vader has in this issue is the one from Phantom Menace not from Revenge of the Sith.

I stand corrected. You are right. Good catch. They are all three different ships (apparently Padme likes silver). The one in this issue looks like the one from TPM...Anakin's first ride in space. :)

That's right! It's one of my favorite ships in SW. The idea that Vader has this ship in his possession now is so very intriguing to me. As this series has shown so well this far, Vader is still very much in love with Padme and loathes everything that reminds him of her loss. Can't think of a better ship for him to begin his slow pull away from Didious than the very vessel which took him from his mother, his home, and in which he began his slow pull from Anakin Skywalker. Kudos to Marvel and the Story Group.

Agreed. The depth that is being added via these stories is intriguing and appreciated.

Thank you for catching that. I will be the first to admit I'm not as up to speed with The Clone Wars series as I should be. I've seen all the episodes, but did not consult my Holocron before writing that.

    Great issue though, huh?

I like how Vader's thoughts on Padme, possibly having this old nostalgic ship, eventually finding out his son is alive, etc ... is showing and teasing (but not too much) that Anakin Skywalker is still buried somewhere inside that black armor. Despite Palpatine's best efgorts to permanently transform Anakin into Vader, Anakin still guardedly holds a piece of his old self deep within his heart. It doesn't make him any more of a badass or that he isn't still consumed by the dark side. I think it just adds to the progression leading up to his eventual redemption.

This issue was damn good. I'm shocked of how this comic-series is getting better. A more human, but also terrorizing Darth Vader. Connections between the Prequels, TCW and the OT.

And that cliffhanger, was awesome. Vader's substitutes? That's a thing that I want to see.

This also ties in the James Luceno's 'Tarkin'. In that novel, the Emperor mentions, something along those lines. This is not verbatim but the quote goes something like this: "And the reigning Dark Lord of the Sith had trouble snuffing out the persistent light even in Lord Vader". Very interesting stuff.

I remember reading that! I love how the old EU made Vader a powerful and dark warrior, but that never fit in for me with the PT. Seeing these comics and Tarkin, Vader seems to be, in a sense, "more human". And for a guy who was burnt alive and chopped up, that's a compliment, and a scary thought for his enemies. Within several months I have even greater respect for Vader than I did from 15 years worth of novels and media. Great review as always @Kyle

Just caught up on the last 2 issues of Vader. SO good. Marvel is doing a tremendous job and exceeding my expectations.

I like the idea that the reason Vader wants to overthrow the Emperor w/ Luke in ESB is because of the emperor's shenanigans in this comic.
