Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection Coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox

The classic Star Wars: Battlefront games from 2004 and 2005 are getting re-released on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox and PC in the form of a classic collection on Thursday, March 14.



Aspyr, the studio historically tasked with porting classic Star Wars video games to current consoles and previously charged with the floundering Knights of the Old Republic remake, are responsible for this repackaging in the form of the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. This collection brings together both 2004's Star Wars: Battlefront and 2005's Star Wars: Battlefront II in one single product, along with the DLC for both games.

The Battlefront DLC includes the bonus map Jabba's Palace, while the Battlefront II DLC includes playable hero characters Kit Fisto and Asajj Ventress, as well as the remakes of the original Battlefront maps Cloud City, Rhen Var Harbor, Rhen Var Citadel and Yavin 4.



The games will also include 64-player online multiplayer, which was possible on the original games, as well as all the old game modes like the popular Galactic Conquest and Battlefront II's story campaign. Thankfully, PS4 and PS5 players will be allowed to play together online, though that is common for most multiplayer games.



This will mark the first time that the original Battlefront games are available on a PlayStation console since the PS2, and the first time ever that they were released on Nintendo (excluding the spin-off game Elite Squadrons which released on Nintendo DS in 2009). The games have already been available on every Xbox console for the past few years as part of Microsoft's backwards compatibility programme.



Star Wars gamers who have been yearning to play the original Battlefront games on modern consoles, let alone on handheld, will have plenty to keep them happy on March 14.
