Well, they are pretty scary actually and they are constant looming threat. I wouldn't compare them to the empire, they feel completely different.
Empire at least might give to it's inhabitants (unless they are enslaved or exploited in many ways the empire can) sense of stability, as it is a legitimate regime.
Empire is everypresent and it's strength is through numbers and sheer power.
But the Nihil are unpredictable, savage, do not take prisoners unless they need to, use brutal tactics without reason (they toss in the poison gas the second they board a ship) on anyone and nobody knows when and where they will strike. In my honest opinion, they are more scary than the Empire.
They are existentional threat to anyone thanks to all of that – nobody really knows what they are and how they actually operate.
    They are the galaxy's boogeyman.

And Marchion Ro is insane, no remorse, no empathy, just a ruthless psychopath. And with the Nameless creatures at his disposal, he can pretty much annihilate the Jedi in torture like way and prey on the emotions of force sensitives and cut them off from the force, until they turn into lifeless husks.
The Drengir and Nihil with Nameless are really scary stuff from the late night stories for the galaxy inhabitants, in comparison to the more based Rebellion era.
The conflict with Rebels was more of a guerilla war with small isolated strikes, as the empire was pretty much everywhere, but during the time of relative peace in the Republic, The Nihil are threat to everyone. It's like the twisted evil version of the rebellion, that attacks both the regime and common people and some of the attacks in the books are on galaxy wide and planetary scale, which leaves the peaceful Republic shaken to it's core.

I had to scale back my reading and concentrate on my art if I want to create my own comic books... so I have all the issues of the High Republic just gotta get around to reading them... I've scaled back my video game time and my reading time to focus on my art... but I must say Cavan Scott and Charles Soule are my favorite Star Wars writers. Claudia Grey is my third fav... Pre-ordered a ROTJ certain point of view simply to complete the series... don't know if I'll get Star Wars the Art of Jedi survivor yet....

I'm ramping up my reading, just finished Jedi Battle Scars and doing audiobook of Light of the Jedi. I'm about a third of the way through and it is fantastic. Think I'm going to start the phase 1 comics next because I'm really wanting to see some of the visuals of the Era. All the Dagan and Santari Khri stuff in the game really feels like it fits into what I'm seeing in the book.

I've got a huge stack of comics I gotta catch up on... almost bought Battle Scars at my LCS, the game is so good I might just do that. I might have to suspend my subscription till I catch up. I also have a digital sub so I can read the comics I haven't picked up. anywho, its my day off gotta play some Jedi Survivor! The marketing team at LFL really know what their doing, by the time Ahsoka is released, I might be done with the game... haha, reading the spoilers motivates me to finish as well. Cal is such a good character LFL must make a live action series... I can't do audiobooks. If I get distracted I'll have to rewind... my art teacher only lurks here is that a clue to more practice less reading... haha.

It took me some time getting into the game with the acrobatic platforming; so Jedi-like, hard but extremely fun. Once I got to Kobah and Pyloon's canteen / saloon / tavern I got hooked. Played for several hours today...

Kind of an interesting take on how the villains in Survivor mirror the Sith Triumvirate.

Definitely evocative of how I've suggested the relationship between Survivor and Fallen Order is similar to that between KOTOR I and II.

I wonder why Vader never tried fighting with just the force.... with ghost limbs & Yoda's hover chair, he would have been nigh unstoppable.

Well. He DID throw some limbs at Luke - TESB. He could have whooped Luke's a** using that method alone. He was toying around with him anyway.

Yet Cere almost took him out with a bookcase.

My actual thought on this, after reading some of the High Republic, the Jedi from that era seem to have a stronger and more symbiotic relationship with the Force. Vader mostly used the Force for aggression and threat. Probably a byproduct of his training taking place in a time leading up to and during war. The High Republic Jedi were much more enlightened and Force attuned which would afford someone like Dagan the abilities that we see in Survivor, especially once he succumbed to the Dark Side.

The family showdown at Cloud City will always be the pinnacle of Star Wars to me.

I left the theater pondering what life would be like....
finding out that your father is not dead AND he's the most evil bastard you've ever seen.

Vader beat him with the furniture. For fun.
Then he cut off his hand just to make sure the boy was paying attention.

So glad Al Gore hadn't gotten around to building the internet yet.

I know it will probably show up in Canon somewhere, but damn. I really wish Luke's hand would just stay with Mara Jade, Ysalamiri, and Starkiller in the graveyard of SW Legends.

Slightly off topic, but what do you all think about a reinterpretation of Starkiller making an appearance in the third game?

Even though I'm not a huge fan of his character, it would be kind of an interesting way to bring him back into canon, as the Jedi games have kind of become the spiritual successor to the TFU games, in a way.

Also,, thinking both in the realm of reinterpretations of characters as well as a common enemy for Galen and Cal... what do y'all think of Darth Nihilus coming into canon in this way, too? Instead of a third of the Sith Triumvirate, he could be a secret sith during the High Republic, either puppeteering or inspired by the Nihil... and he's in stasis on Tanalorr, his hunger and energy possibly feeding into the Koboh Abyss.

That's an interesting idea. I don't know the Darth Nihilus character first hand, but it seems pretty sure that the Nihil were named in relation to him, even if just as a name drop. I'm really digging the Nihil as bad guys, I hope we do get more of them and their predecessors/successors. It seems pretty clear that the Bedlam Raiders are related in some way. I would say they could be tied someway in Canon to Darth Nihilus... I'm just starting the last wave of Phase I of High Republic, and I'm getting hints that there may be/probably is a connection to Marchion Ro and the Nihil to the Force Users. The Koboh Abyss idea is cool, it does kinda seem like it was created by an event from what we saw in the flashback with Santari and Zee.

@Lord of the Rens, dude are you a comic of some sort?

Anyway, back on topic, I just finished the story last night. The gameplay is amazeballs, tough but not throw down the controller hard(I played on Knight the whole time). Lot's of little nuances you can use for battle. I really had fun with the lift/slam Force power & mind-tricking. Visually stunning and some fun puzzles to use your gray matter a bit, only got stuck once and had to look up the Path of Conviction. The story was fine but not as touching/moving??( I don't know the right word) as the first one, though the Force Echo that has Bode & Kata singing together on Tanalorr is really effing sad to me.

Skoova Steve and I shall now fall to the dark side and 100% the whole game.

    Nah, I just live filter-less....

Except when my wife gives me the "my grand-mum survived a Polish-death-camp for this?" glare, or I'm with a client.

Wait, I always make fun of them too.

I could be wrong, but I think it's just meant to make the endgame feel the presence of the Empire.

For much of Survivor, the Empire was really in the background. The Bedlam Raiders are all over Koboh, but the Empire is barely to be seen, outside of their mountaintop base and a few occasional sightings elsewhere. As the game goes on, their presence on the planet gets stronger and stronger, especially after the attack on Jedha.

In the end, the gang goes to Koboh, Pyloon's Saloon is nearly empty, and the Empire looms in the sky. It's... a bitter ending, but appropriately so.
