I'd like to see the movies go backwards in time and look at early Jedi/Sith finding they have abilities but not knowing it's the force as I think they could make some epic movies without the restraints of 'the orders'.
What I mean is that establishing there is a difference between the two sides whilst also taking into account how folks would react to finding they had these amazing powers and what their stories would be to define the sides they end up on and how the sides became what we know them to be.

T.V. Wise, I think it could be quite fun to do a series or two much like the Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina / Jabbas palace books did with the back stories and events from characters from throughout the movies that perhaps only get a few moments movie screen time.

And I have to admit, I'm another member of the make Solo 2 camp as I really enjoyed it as a movie.

That's surely what we are going to get from Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi movie... I would imagine there will be quite a bit of time jumping in the movie and any sequels, because the Jedi Order was formed 25,000BBY and it was 20,000 years later that the Sith came about. I can't imagine that series of events not being fleshed out. It will be very interesting to see what they come up with for antagonists to the Jedi over that massive amount of time, or will they decide to condense huge chunks of the timeline to get into the Sith vs. Jedi? The word "biblical" has been used to describe the story, so it should definitely be interesting, and Canon has seemingly given thousands of years in timeline to tell stories.
I couldn't agree more! I think a live-action anthology series is a no-brainer. Even an animated version of From A Certain Point of View could be great. I think the main thing holding this back at this time is that a live-action anthology would inevitably include established characters, meaning A-list actors, meaning big budget. I do hope they put this into the works eventually, if no other reason it would be an amazing opportunity to see some really talented creators who maybe can't commit to an entire movie or series, but could do a single episode. Literally a Galaxy of potential there.

I'll be totally honest with you here, I've been under a rock and out of the loop with upcoming releases of late, as the way things were happening/not happening, green lit/cancelled, release dates moved etc. became remarkably difficult to keep up with depending on which way the wind was blowing in any given week so the Dawn of the Jedi movie news genuinely passed me by.
Makes the post seem a tad pointless with hindsight so my apologies for stating the obvious. :(
Saying that, the news of the project is most welcome.
My only hope is that because it's out of the usual Disney comfort zone (not having fan favourite characters or places to rely on) they take a decent amount of time to flesh out the story arc and the end point they hope to achieve and make it a coherent story to get to that point before diving in.
Doing a 'next cow to the cash milker' type movie that changes direction depending on ratings would be a massive disservice to what could be an epic tale.

Well, firstly, your post is absolutely not pointless, the thread is about what we want to see from the future Star Wars movies. It was clear to me from your post that you probably weren't totally up to date on the news, so how cool is it that Lucasfilm was having some of the same ideas that you were.

Also, a drum that I will continue to beat loudly and confidently... Although, yes, the past couple of years have been frustrating to us fans with so many announced then cancelled or forgotten about projects, I truly believe that LFL and specifically Kathleen Kennedy, have course corrected at the very least when it comes to making announcements. Three movies were announced at Celebration, far more than most expected, and while very little is known about them, it has been stated they are all well enough into development. The one we are referring to here will be about the Dawn of the Jedi era which is established as 25,025 BBY and will be written and directed by James Mangold.

All in all, it's safe to say the future is bright for SW movies, and surely the TV and publishing divisions are gonna keep up their respective momentum.

As far as a "Disney comfort zone (not having fan favourite characters or places to rely on) "- don't forget, Lucasfilm is the creative force here, and establishing iconic characters is their "thing". Plus, the other two announced projects are firmly set with established and beloved characters, so they are safely "hedging their bet" with setting up a completely disconnected story in the extreme earliest years of the GFFA.

@MBWilson , I honestly hope you are right about the future direction of the films.
I've always tried to be positive in my outlook for new Star Wars content and to be fair, I'm mostly happy with anything that gives me time away in the Galaxy Far Far Away whether it be film or series.
From a personal point of view though, I hope it's more like Andor than the majority of BOBF.

I did do a bit of research after reading your first post and James Mangold does seem to have a good track record so far.

Well, I'm a sucker for anyone who uses Andor as a measuring stick. However, as much as that series rocked me to my core, I also very much enjoyed the overall experience of Book of Boba Fett, and as far as the future, I want more of both series' look and tone. I love how Andor has such a dark and ominous feel with deep and real emotion and weight. Then there is BoBF, which very much feels like watching a live-action comic book, with simple and obvious themes, yet the two exist in the same Galaxy. As expansive as the SW Galaxy is across so many types of media, there is no reason it can't be every bit as vast within each one. That's why upcoming shows like Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte are so exciting to me. I truly believe we are about to see 3 very diverse styles to tell different stories in a familiar place.

This is the Golden Age of Star Wars.

I would really like to see the novel, The Truce at Bakura come to life. It takes place the day after RotJ and would be a stand alone novel that wouldn't interfere with The Mandalorian.

I'm actually vaguely familiar as I tried to read this book... At this point I think it's most likely that EU/Legends fans are going to have to settle with cherry-picking, broad repurposing and Easter eggs. I'm no Legends scholar, but the Plagieus stuff probably has the best chance of being made Canon in any recognizable form. Bakura also has the issue that it relies almost entirely on Luke, Leia and Han, all of whom it's fair to assume, have seen the finite end of their time in SW films. As a completionist who can never have too much information, I would like to see some stories between Endor and Mando S1, but I'm not holding my breath, especially in the movie side. The battle of Jakku would probably be best odds in those few years. If it's any consolation, the planet Bakura was made Canon in Resistance.

I can't help but think that at the present moment, Disney doesn't seem to have a clear plan 'going forward'. With the exception of the Rey film, all of their projects - Mando film, Acolyte more Obi Wan - are set in the past, not the future.
I find it a bit odd, to be honest. They've ended the Skywalker Saga but what will replace it?

What I'm about to say, I think I've said here before. But either way, here it is: Eventually -- like all good comic books and comic book movies -- we'll have a SW film where the audience will learn that the Skywalker Line DIDN'T END with Luke. We'll go back in the past and discover Luke had a love child after ROTJ that was kept hidden from him by the mother.

Laugh all you want now---I swear to you it'll happen someday.

Disney already gets criticized for bad and inconsistent story telling, but something like this would be even worse.

Past and future can work together though. It's speculated that the Rey movie is connected to Mangold's movie. Then there's the rumor that Shawn Levy is also using Rey in his Star Wars movie. My theory: there will be alot of movies set after TROS. But they won't be called Episode X, XI, XII and so on. They will be called:

    Star Wars
    The New Jedi Order
    "Enter Movie Title Here"

I think something like this is inevitable if they can't get anything going post TROS. However, it will require George to be dead first. There's some things they're not touching while he's still around and Luke having kids is one of them. There's a segment of fandom heavily invested in the family soap opera side though. I'd probably check out when that happens.
Seems like they have some kind of plan with the "Dawn of the Jedi" the "New Jedi Order" and the Mandoverse. Those are three eras they're playing in and one is the future.

It is a Space Opera. A long lost love child would be the best way to continue the Skywalker bloodline, BUT, here is what I think would be a better twist than Luke fathering the child... Ben Solo has a child!!!! Not with Rey. Let me repeat that. NOT with Rey, but somewhere out there in the GFFA, "No. There... is ... another..."(yoda 2)
This would also be the best way to bring Adam Driver back into the franchise through flashbacks since people can't seem to let go of the idea of him returning.

The child could be 18-19 years old in the upcoming New Jedi Order movie timeframe, which is historically a prime age in SW movies.

I don't know, I'd hate to see the movies put an emphasis on the Skywalker family again after the TLJ (and even to some extent, TROS) did a pretty good job of de-emphasizing bloodlines.

I'd rather we just have the New Jedi Order timeline, standalone films, and Old Republic stuff. I think bouncing between these three topics would help the series stay fresh.

Yep! There's different Skywalker candidates to choose from, depending on the new trilogy being told. Personally, I think a son or daughter of Luke would be the most appealing to fans.
The Skywalker Saga started the Star Wars franchise. It's just TOO JUICEY a storyline leave in the closet gathering dust. Lke all good comic book heroes and villains (somehow Palipatine returned), we'll see a new, honest-to-goodness, bloodline Skywalker again. Keep in mind I'm NOT saying it will happen anytime soon. I'm simply saying it WILL happen. You can count on it.
I agree it's most likely to happen sometime in the future after George dies of old age. But, regardless of the hit or miss ratio of post-TROS SW films, I believe it's inevitable.
FWIW, I suspect most of us may already be 'checked out' when it happens. :) ;)

Yeah, personally I don't need any expansion on the Skywalker bloodline either. I'm fully onboard with the Found Family dynamic. There will always be a tiny piece of me that is upset that more wasn't done with Luke, Leia and Han post ROTJ, but that just is what it is.

From the time Qui-Gon finds Anakin until the death of his grandson Ben Solo, the entire Skywalker bloodline lasts less than 100 years. They have been the center of this universe for almost 50 years, so I totally understand the reluctance to let them go. There are endless coulda/shoulda/wouldas here but the decision was made to "end the Skywalker Saga". I do think that there is a fair chance we could see a long lost offspring pop up eventually, but I do not think it is inevitable or needed especially if they keep growing the Galaxy in size and time as we have seen. Not gonna lie though, every THR book and comic I have read, in the back of my mind I have dreaded that little reference or hint to Skywalker or some other thread. I have been pleased to see this avoided and a truly disconnected yet wholly connected story being told. Dawn of the Jedi is set to blow the timeline wide open and even lessen the importance of the Skywalker Saga on the GFFA franchise. To be fair, I guess it would be more of separating the Saga as an important story within the bigger story. Maybe not less important or impactful, but offering more stories from different eras and places that are equally important and impactful to the Galaxy.

    100% agreed.

I suppose it's possible, but I think Rey has taken on that role now. I think it makes more sense to lean into that than to retcon Luke's story to add in a son. Seems Rey has taken the Skywalker name anyway, and I just don't see the bloodline as being all that important (and as I mentioned, it actually kinda goes against the modern message of the series anyway).
