Oh, I love that shot at 1:05. Symmetry is always great, but seeing how Kylo is tiny in comparison with Snoke just shows who's the boss (similarly to Vader-Palpatine talk from TESB.)

PS. Also, I have just rewatched the original version of Vader-Sidious talk from TESB and Snoke feels quite similar to what we see from the Emperor in Episode V. He appears to be frail, but don't underestimate his wisdom and subtle mind.

I think making Snoke a politician would be too similar to Palpatine’s story.

I think the fact that he’s very old and has had multiple apprentices is an indication that he is likely Plaugeis, or Plagueis was an incarnation of him, think the way Sauron was a shape shifter.

Richard Marquand, ROTJ director, said that in 789, that you will meet the Supreme Intellect. I think Snoke is a version of this character.

It’s about the Skywalker saga and Lucas said that 789 would be more philosophical and less black and white in dealing with the choices you make.

Having Snoke as Plagueis, who has manipulated everything is a good obstacle for Rey and Ren. Assuming Rey is Lukes’s kid, these are the grandchildren of Darth Vader are faced with making choices with consequence and deciding what the right thing is. Plagueis, the father of Vader would be good way to finish the story of the Skywalker off.

Snoke, who was once Plagueis, could be a celestial being or Whills (god like) that fell from the grace of his peers and has been watching everything.

Yes this would somewhat mirror Anakin but if Anakin was through the force by the power of a god like dark side user, it would tie together the meaning of the chosen one and how you can control your destiny. If the Skywalker comes from a source of evil to begin with, Snoke, then it adds more depth to the character of Kylo Ren.

 

While I do think that JJ and Pablo WOULD LIE about who Snoke is/isn't to not tip their hat... Pablo is usually a little more wry when making comments on twitter and such.
